Wow, I have to say. This is SUCK!

Ok, rant thread time. Been awhile since I've done that. But here goes.

Just failed a STF. Had a team of all vet players. Alittle melee heavy, but all in all it should have worked fine. Except for 1 thing. We could not defeat Ghost Widow.

I mean, What the (insert F bomb here) We fought her for over 15 minutes before we just had to give up. It's total BS that 1 mob should ruin a task force that we were easily over a hour in to. We had no problems anywhere else in the whole task force. We even ended up fighting 3 of the 4 signature villains at once. Now that went a little rough, but we managed to take out Scirroco, Black Scorpion and Mako with fatalities, but we could do it.

We could not even get Ghost Widow below 90% health. All because of the fact that we had too much melee? That is just rediculas.

It's **** like this that turns me off of the game, after 81 months.....For the first time I am seriously thinking of going to another MMO. Just because of stupid BS like this.

Now this task force is totally doable. I've done the Statesman's Task Force hundreds of times. More wins then losses, but seeing a team that's worked for over a hour end up getting denied anything on the next to last encounter of the task force because the team make up had too many people that needed to get close to Ghost Widow to do damage is just unforgivable.

No more weekly task forces for me till it's off of the STF. (F Bomb) Ghost Widow too (The character, not the dev...)

Dammit, this makes me want to play Champions Online for petes sake!

Rant is over.....*exhales* Let the flames commence!!

1) Make sure your melee is softcapped to her acc-based heals
2) If not softcapped inherently, use purples.
3) After softcap, stock up on DAMAGE.
4) if no kin or similar, use reds.
5) if you have a tank, taunt, then stay out of range. (immob her)

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.

Ran an STF with:
1 Dom (me)
1 Cont
1 PB
1 Corr
3 Scrap
1 Tank

Ended up fighting all 4 at once and still make it through without too much trouble. The /SR Scrapper was good vengbait though.

That is funny we did a scrapper all stf run on test before alpha (about 6 months ago or more) and beat Ghost widow then again the amount of maneuvers + grant cover plus Io builds everyone was a from the scrapper forums any ways we beat here in melee.

So yes it is possible

Umm, this is a rant. No logic required here.

You should be happy that she's not worse. Castle tried for a few weeks to make it so that Clear Mind wouldn't stack so GW would be even HARDER.

So, let me see if I understand this correctly:

  • You've played the game 81 months
  • You generally have no problems defeating foes, even other archvillains
  • You defeated the other AVs in this particular fight
  • You've beaten this particular task force many times

...And in all that time of rolling over everything in your path, you've met this one critter on one Task Force you couldn't defeat, and suddenly you want to quit and take up another game?

No, I'm sorry, I got that wrong. You said you HAVE defeated Ghost Widow before. Many times.

So it's just this one foe, this one time?

Do you always have to win everything to be happy?

I'm sorry you're frustrated. I get to that point sometimes with games. I think this game is well designed in most respects.

I'm willing to defend a number of components of this game, but AV fights are not one of them. They are terrible, and in need of a complete rewrite. To me this goes over and above the Ghost Widow-specific fight. If I could go through end game content and never face another AV I'd be more than content. Packs of Elite Bosses though I tend to find fun.

Too much melee without enough defense is one of the common ways the STF fails. I am surprised playing for 81 months you haven't experienced this bit of pain before. Its something that really shouldn't be in the game. The problem is ranged damage dealers in this game are at a disadvantage usually and this is one of the few places they aren't.

I'm just surprised that they had so much melee and didn't have a bunch of people running maneuvers or at least a VEAT or two. Thanks to inherent fitness I find there's a lot of manuevers going around these days. It's been very nice improvement in my opinon since so many people are obsessed with healing and don't realize the way bubbles/shields/etc vastly out perform heals.

OBTW, Ghost Widow bugs every so often, too. Just FYI.

I always thought GW should be the most powerfull Villain ever. She does have the most powerfull super power in CoX....Moving animated magical pretty hair.

But My STF I was on as my Emp/Psi defender kicked her butt easy.

We had the following.

Tank
Scrappers X2
Blaster
MM
Controller
Defender X2 My Emp and Their Kin

Psi Damage works quite good on her or at least seems too.

Heh, I had a buddy who was on a failing Statesman too the other night for the same reason. Simply put, you can choose one of two routes when fighting her - provide enough defence to everyone that Dark regeneration "always" misses, or immobilize and taunt from range so she doesn't use the power at all. In his case the melee just wouldn't realize all you really have to do is to have a designated taunter hold her attention from range, immobilizing and let the rest of the melee do their job, preferrably with aggro auras off. If the taunter just stay out of Dark regeneration range she's not an issue anymore.

When my buddy tried to explain this the stubborn melee players wouldn't listen and as a result they kept having her run Dark regeneration off of them. 30% total hp heal per target hit in the area every 30 seconds + animation time, or something along those lines. I can almost guarantee that no single character in this game out-damage that kind of healing power in an AV - so having one guy step off to avoid the heal even firing off really is the best strategy if you cant soft-cap everyone so she has very little chance of even landing that PBAoE attack. After he had been talking to me in tells and relaying the experience for about an hour, they gave up and the melee teammates all blamed it on the TF having lost a member along the way. It's a pity since he doesn't run many task forces for exactly this kind of player behaviour.

Have one person taunt her and kite. Constantly. They should be the only person getting aggro, and nowhere near Ghost Widow. Everyone else, including the other melee, stays on her butt and smashes her until she dies. She won't fire off her heal if her main target isn't in melee range.

The thing is, it actually just takes one stubborn player to mess this up. If you have someone on the team who won't max out their def, avoid aggro, or avoid melee with her, the whole team is stuffed.

I really should do something about this signature.

I wonder if she got updated at some point? It no longer seems to be possible to perma-immobilize her, I've tried that with a friends controller along a couple of times now. You can get her when the triangles are down, but otherwise you have to kite her, which can be tricky if some teammates have patch-based debuffs (tar patch, sleet, etc.), or have to melee her to hit her. It can end up dropping dps on her substantially.

I was on a team that almost stalled on her a few days ago, until we got the controllers to dismiss pets and started kiting her more. Still took about 20 minutes to drop her, since most of our debuffs were location based.

Took a while to get her on STF I was on this morning, but by melee's running/jumping past her for some hits when she wasn't held, and attacking for 15-20 seconds and pulling back when she was held, we eventually took her down. Took 10 or so clear minds stacked up to ward off that nasty hold of hers.

Last STF I ran was five tanks, a brute, a defender and a Widow. We did just fine but I assume the tanks/brute were all pretty defensively sound.

A while ago I was in an STF where we got stuck on GW and two of us just popped off to the Vanguard base, bought Heavies, came back and blew her down that way. Made more sense than giving up.

Oh yes because Heroes have never been beaten or knocked out and forced to try and beat villains again... It's called balance, you can't always have your cake and eat it. Sometimes you trip and land your face in it... And think about it this way, if the cake wasn't there, you might have broke something on your face... Hmmm?

As for the Op, it's a 54 AV, if she doesn't beat us once in a while, I wouldn't consider she a viable threat. Now only if we could as heroes take on 8 other heroes at once solo, I would feel like just as much of a threat.
