Fix Praetoria
I will always open up a new toon in Praetoria. Why you ask? First and foremost, I just like the environment they way things are laid out, the detail in the buildings (and yes, they have windows) unlike some in lets say Steel Canyon that are solid brick on three sides..heh..heh. I actually find it easier to solo through a large majority of contacts there. As others have said, when you make a new toon, just don't pick Praetoria as your starting point. You can go Hero or Villain to start. You are not forced to pick Praetoria as you are not forced to watch a TV show you don't like. Just change the channel.

I'll even write up most of them as not being Praetorians but from paragon. I just like starting out in Praetoria more.

no. they do not.
GC has you do arcs primarily set in Galaxy City. AP has you do arcs primarily set in AP. Granted, most of these arcs are relatively short, and you'll eventually get fed into the contact origin contacts and the Hollows, where play experience start to merge together. |

Bull****.
Villains have to go to Mercy and decide between Kalinda or Burke. That's it. Oh wait I foprgot Veats. They get 1 mission then must choose between Kalinda or Burke. Heroes on the other hand get to choose 1 of 10 initial contacts based on origin which are split between Atlas Park and Galaxy City. And if the players are making a Kheld they have complete storylines to follow depending on if they make a WS or a PB which is a hell of a lot more interesting than the unfinished crap VEATS got. Is the Hero stuff old? Yes. Is it better than the garbage Villains must suffer thru? HELL YES!! The main reason people get bored with the same old starting missions heroside is because they refuse to start anywhere other than Atlas Park. That's a personal problem not a problem with the content. |
And story wise, they're pretty much the same.
Now, I fully admit after that fact, there comes contacts that vary in low levels. Hollows or KR and at level 10 you can run the midnighters arc, which you might likely do at some point anyways.

The way I see to "fix" Praetoria is to have 20-50 content and some TF like:
Desdemona TF
Maelstrom TF
iVY TF
and so on...
Not going to say is perfect, but to me is far better than 1-20 red side and thousand times better 1-20 blue side.

My first suspicion was that it would be level 40-50 content in the same zones that you had from 10-20... kinda an alternate instance... some places would have changed as the battle raged in your absence. You're now back, more prepared and ready for the next fight there.... plus heroes and villains who haven't been to Praetoria would be visiting THAT instance. That idea kinda became unlikely when they let anyone can use pocket D to get to the original lowbie Praetoria.
ok, yeah this was a stupid Idea of mine..
You could form a Praetorian 'sewers team' and enter it at level one in Nova Praetoria and not see the light of day til you come out level 20 in Neutropolis.

All the OP really wanted was an AE building plopped in the middle of the Magisterium.
Praetoria does need a 'fix', but it needs to come in the form of a polished completion.
Don't get me wrong. I love the place, but so much more can be done with it - and I hope it's potential is realized while there are enough people to fill the servers to yellow and red on a somewhat frequent basis.
I'm avoiding praetoria any more, I got my dominator out of that 20 level sentence jail. i don't want to go back, it's hard to level the slow way.
until the issue release that gives us higher level praetoria zones for higher level characters to get contacts and missions, praetoria is a long job. when it was opened up to higher levels to walk-in, I did go back but I had a sinking feeling and this thought in the back of my head: "god I hope they don't lock my character in here again by some accident" so.. let make it easier on praetorians so it's not so much of a jail in the meantime. how about double XP for praetorians? just until higher level zones are released. |
If you actually paid attention to the game's story instead of how fast your XP bar is going up, you might enjoy it more.
"Leveling the slow way" is known to most people as "playing the game."
I'm sorry if actually fighting something that has the ability to hit you back is too taxing for you. Maybe you should spend less time in AE and actually learn how the game is REALLY played.
You've been here for 6 months. Trust me when I say: You have NO IDEA AT ALL what "leveling the slow way" really means.

I did thought Praetoria was initally hard, but I got use to it and now I think it's easy. So when I saw this thread, I thought......so whats wrong with Praetoria? Nothing.
Well I hate Praetoria too...
But the whole double XP thing is not a good ideal.

Blueside? The missions have NO coherence. There is absolutely no semblance of any coherent arc there whatsoever.
I'm not saying Villainside couldn't use a revamp too. Hell, you could add two whole new contacts to Mercy and beef out the other two and you wouldn't see the zone suffer.
The stupid thing? The arc in my signature took an evening and one day to make. That arc takes Azuria's junk that they call an arc and replaces it with something with at least some semblance of cohesion and objectives other thatn 'Hunt, defeat all, defeat all, talky'. Now, this is one student using the AE. Why the hell can the Devs, with all their tools, not do something miles better? It really, really wouldn't take that long, and I've proved it.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Hardly. At least the Villain side, lackey-locked as it is, has some vague semblance of arc to it. Burke has you doing a simple bugging tsk, moving up to fetching stuff for a client and then going for a bigger pay-cheque at the end. Kalinda has you running general Arachnos grunt work, moving up to a sweep and clear alongside Arachnos troops and such.

Praetorian missions are giving too much exp and giving exp from AE is biggest mistake what devs ever made. They needed the whole year to fix that mistake and still it's causing some troubles.

I cannot agree with a single sentence you've written here.
Praetoria contains some of the best content, leveling is very easy and the zones are much easier to get around, plus look far better.
