Fix Praetoria
Seriously, though, if your idea of how to fix an expansion is so you can get your PL on, then you're going to have a tough time selling that one. LRN2TEAM.
@Rylas
Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.
All the OP really wanted was an AE building plopped in the middle of the Magisterium.
Praetoria does need a 'fix', but it needs to come in the form of a polished completion. Don't get me wrong. I love the place, but so much more can be done with it - and I hope it's potential is realized while there are enough people to fill the servers to yellow and red on a somewhat frequent basis. |
I think you're thinking of the nightclub called Studio 55

City of Heroes comics and artwork
Praetoria for me is actually too quick for leveling, you outlevel a lot of the contacts if you clear every map, have more than yourself on team etcetc. When the OP says he wants fast leveling all i can think of is someone doorsitting on an AE mish getting leveled in a matter of hours. This to me isn't what i would want when i like to do content (sure i sometimes boost some characters up a bit but normally because i've hit a "slow spot" not through desire to have X lvl50s by X date)
When i first started it was just before AE came in, and yes i was an AE baby for a couple of months until i found out there was more beyond Atlas Park. Now i like to think i know the game and the content (not as well as say a 6 year vet but hey).
I love this game and my partner has been playing since CoV beta, so i get told of how hard leveling used to be. Sometimes i wish we could "rollback" back to those days because its about the journey to 50 not being 50. I made a solo character a while back to try and make a challenge for myself, got to 35 odd in a week and then left her on the shelf as i felt she was leveling waaaaaay too fast and too easy.
Praetoria has given me a chance to reroll the solo character and actually have a bit of a challenge with leveling. Honestly wish they'd reduce the xp gain throughout the game so we can enjoy the road to 50 more (or to repeat an idea of mine from a different thread, make it so we can choose how much xp we get other than on or off. none, 1/4, 1/2. 3/4, full options would be a godsend to me).
Sorry for the wall of text but thats my 2 cents.

That was a good post, and nowhere near a "wall of text." Thanks.

Lowbie Primal is the equivelant of 'Go fetch me 10 Mangy Doom-chicken feet'. Lowbie Praetoria is the eqivelant of 'Hey, here's a world. Go nuts.' |
I didn't really get into Praetoria until recently, but I'm loving every minute of it. Stories are very well written--even immersive. I don't skip over the dialogue just to get to missions.
The foes are certainly tougher (seems that way to me, any way) but it's a lot of fun.
Some people seem to get overly defensive when it comes to optional game mechanics. I never pvp myself, but I'm not opposed to adding an "optional" system of pvp flagging. Notice I said optional? Ok, one more time, it's optional... if you don't want to pvp, don't turn on the flag and add the so-called "jacktards" to your global ignore. Problem solved. I just don't understand why people fight so hard to oppose something that wouldn't even affect them. Plus, I seriously think some people over-exaggerate the prevalence of these types of people. I'd bet you would see very few of them. Maybe once a month. And I've played many mmo's with pvp flagging systems.
Remember, this is a game about super-heroes and villains. It does seem a bit odd to not give the heroes and villains freedom to battle in the city. Would it make sense if Magneto and the X-Men could only fight in a certain neigborhood? I'm just saying this could be something for people to do if they want to add some variety to their gaming.

Remember if there is any part of the playerbase the devs need to keep happy it's the ones whose subscriptions are paying the bills. And in this game that's the PvE players. This game was designed to be PvE from the start and PvP was only an afterthought that was added later. PvP never interested more than a handful of players in it's heyday.
To be fair, you DO have to start toons in preatoria if you're making a Corruptor who has been "good" from the start, or vice versa.
Now if you could roll any archetype in the Rogues or Paragon like you can on preatoria, then that would be different.
My biggest problem with Preatoria is that it's almost impossible to find teams there, there are too few contacts and missions (I've already run them enough to begin being bored by them) and with no TFs or a wider range or contacts, I cant varying it up from one toon to the next enough for it to "feel" as new and fun as it is.
The zones rock. The missions and contacts rock. But right now there isn't enough there to draw enough people to make it as "fun" as normal content. Add a posi-level TF and a few more contacts and that might begin to change.
Snarky Reply #2: No, just "to." One-way ticket.
