i19 does not bode well
ABC:
In all seriousness, join channels 'JFA2010' and 'Justice United'. Even at odd hours, people are consistently looking for people for task forces. I played on Justice for years, mostly solo and pick-up groups until I found those channels and then a whole new world opened up. It's good stuff.
Don't forget, after you join the channel that you need to right click on your main chat window and add the channels to the text types shown.

What's all this nonsense about Justice server being dead?
Justice has been constant yellow since I19.
I ran a LGTF on it last night and got 7 or 8 shards.
There were more people who wanted to join us and we were full.
There were also a bunch of people doing the Tin Mage and Apex TFs.
IMO, the Warzone was a bit too crowded. It actually had a second instance.
P.S Golden Girl, that was scary...even for you.
i think the reason you couldn't attack him is that you're meant to talk to him at that point.
You don't actually beat trapdoor up all the way. He only gets to a certain fraction of his health before yelling that you should stop. |
I love Sadako.
I thought the idea behind this game was that teaming was optional and that everything could be acquired solo.
Now with this release I can't progress my 50's unless I do TFS, do the devs realise how hard it is to get a team together on some servers outside the US ?! The time zone difference kills us. I am afraid if this doesn't change then this is the end of my 6 year run with this game. :-( |
I tried to solo the trapdoor mission with my archer blaster and gave up after 1/2 hour, I just couldn't dent him enuff with all his regen.
|
1) kill the easily killable clones that grant him regen
2) keep him in the lava
3) pull him into the cave away from his clones that grant him regen
sorry if some things just require more thought than "target, push button"
I thought the bully boy in the last part put up the toughest fight. Anyway, once it was over I was all like... okay, got the slot, got a shard... now I'm gonna go do something else!

You're just transferring anger from a different game. Shame about that

ow...
Okay, I really didn't have anything to add to this thread except for the I don't understand cricket line of jokes. Yeah, I do think the Original Poster is well off his rocker for a variety of reasons, most of which I think have been addressed. That being said I'm not entirely sure the Original Poster understands what lipstick on a pig means, much less having a firm grasp of time.
Just because a game is old does not mean it is bad. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Valve (Steam) are still posting rather tidy profits from old games made available through their various download services. Games that were taken off the retail market years ago, like Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, still sell.
I guess I'm left wondering if the original poster really understands what they want or what they are asking for. If they want a new game because they don't like how CoH plays, well, why even say anything to Paragon Studios? All information so far suggests that if NCSoft decided to have Paragon Studios work on a CoH2 title, Paragon Studios will continue the game balance and mechanics already in the existing game. So if they want a different play experience, they aren't going to get it from Paragon Studios or NCSoft.
Updating this game isn't putting lipstick on a pig. Now, if the original poster really wants examples of putting lipstick on pigs, I'd be more than happy to give the forum moderators a list of examples they would no doubt have to delete.
If the original want a new game because they don't have anybody to play with... well, then there is the entire issue of they are in Australia, they are playing after midnight their time and before whatever time it is in the US. One of the... things... I tell new players to CoH is to spread out across servers. I tell new players not to get too hung up on being on just one server and having all their characters on that one server. Ergo, it's my opinion that if the original poster was even remotely interested in participating in the game's community, they should try different servers, see whose up when they are playing.
One of the facets of an MMO is that sometimes, believe it or not, content is designed for teams, and requires players to be online to run that content. I don't agree with the notion that everything should be solo-able. I think this point has been addressed already. Why would somebody play an MMO if they were not interested in forming a team and playing with other people.
Okay, in all fairness, MMO's can suffer from the availability of players. Real life events like the economy, school, national holidays, other video game releases, and so on, can have a dramatic effect on the visible population of any given game. While CoH does have a large number of casual gamers, hard-core games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby's Epic Yarn are still going to pull a visible portion of the player-base away. Then there's stuff like Call of Duty: Black Op's which will also put a dent in the number of CoH players.
From a long-point, this is why MMO companies generally don't base performance on the game on a narrow section of time. The indication has been that CoH is running a healthy number of subscribers, Going Rogue met sales expectations, Issue 19 made it out only a few months after Going Rogue, and so on and so forth.
Looking over the thread, I don't think I'm the only one that is genuinely confused by whatever viewpoint the original poster has. The impression I get is that the Original Poster has the same entitlement / I want it nao attitude that permeated that thread claiming the Incarnate System was an insult to skilled players.
it's the "occasionally acquired" that sux, so far they have been rarer than purple recipes. I really don't want to farm or grind for what are key components of the game for 50s.
This just seems like the devs trying to push people into TFs because they weren't being played as much as they wanted. (maybe becuase it's so hard to get a team together !!) |
The other day I ran my farm map, just to see how long it would take. In about 45 minutes I got 5 shards. That's about even with 45 minutes on an ITF. The thing is, it just *feels* like it takes forever for them to drop when you're solo. And they are not rarer than purples. I've gotten 1 purple compared to about 50+ shards. I already have uncommon boosts slotted in 3 of my 50's, 2 of them with just a common boost slotted.
Nope, not hard to get a team together. Some of the best teams are found early Aussie evening. My husband teams on TF (Justice) regularly around 5 - 7pm Aussie time...possibly even later. The other night at about 7 your time, he ran a STF and a Tin Man.

My Characters
Solo +0/x2 rate so far: about a drop every 3-5 missions.
Purple drops at the same settings: once in a blue moon. |
That said i am not complaining just sharing, latwr i ran in 3 TF and have recieved enough to make an uncommon also got two purple recipies. Maybe my luck is finally changing.
Edited to add last sentance.
Triumph Charactors: Tabby Cat: 50 Claws/Regen
Isabella Ice: 50 ice/ice
Wondderland: 50 ice/cold
Mindfull: 50/Kin
I'm pretty much a soloer and am working on getting my alpha slot filled. You can get the alpha slot filled without doing a single TF.
TFs/SFs just allow you to fill the slot faster than doing it solo.

Like all the treads on purple drop rates the milage seems to vary :-(
It's 11:30 pm in Australia and there were no lvl 50's in oro or PI but me :-( (on CoH Justice) I tried to solo the trapdoor mission with my archer blaster and gave up after 1/2 hour, I just couldn't dent him enuff with all his regen. I see the same thing in the new GR content the devs egged on by the games uber elites have made the damn things so hard that it is no longer fun. |

Yesterday, I ran 10 tip and one alignment missions, all solo, equal level. Got 2 shards - both off of minions.
Just now, I did one mission, spawned for 8, equal level. Got 2 shards - one off of a boss, the other from a minion.
Honestly, those seem like pretty good drop rates, to me.
And for those who claimed that these were harder than purples to get? No purples in those missions.
Edit - running my 5 tips at spawned for 1. One incarnate shard so far - yay for named Boss in mission.

I don't agree with the notion that everything should be solo-able. I think this point has been addressed already. I can't speak for anyone else, but I play MMOs because I like something about the game enough to tolerate the fact that there are other people logged in at the same time. I play *despite* the massively multiplayer part, not because of it. Of the three MMOs that I spend any time playing, none of them particularly require teaming most of the time. I don't PVP, and I don't have any interest in "raid" style content. In fact, the main reason I'd stopped really playing the zillion pound gorilla of MMOs a good six months before I actually quit was that it became more and more apparent that there really wasn't much to do at the level cap if you didn't want to sign away your soul to a hardcore Raiding guild.
Now, for the original poster's complaint about Trapdoor - I did this mission solo, on a Necromancy/Dark Miasma Mastermind that is *not* a Tankermind and that actually has a significant number of slots devoted to personal attacks. As soon as a clone popped up, I'd order my zombies to take it out. I think the whole fight might have taken three minutes, and I believe I lost one zombie.
The fight with the Honoree originally looked pretty intimidating, so I did ask a friend for help. However, by the time they got done with what they were doing and made it to me, I'd cleared out both of the portals and had just finished of Holtz. Alone, I think the worst that might have happened is that I might have had to make a hospital run to restock on the various purple inspirations. (Honoree does have a nasty habit of trying to stunlock you.)
Since then, I've been playing that character solo, and have only managed about five shards. They have a bit higher drop rate than purples, so I might actually be able to make one of the basic boosts in a month or two. Building towards the higher pieces solo would be quite tedious, if that was my only goal. (I rarely attempt to join any kind of Task Force, beyond whatever it takes to unlock the costume pieces for the ones that have some.) I went to the trouble of unlocking the alpha slot mostly just to see how hard it was, and because the basic shards are essentially free extra loot once you've done so. I have no intention of doing the Apex or Tin Mage task forces. If future Incarnate slots require doing a TF to unlock, I won't hesitate to skip them.
I'm in Australia, generally the Justice server but I flip around freedom, justice, victory and virtue. Unless I want to play at 3 in the morning (which I don't ) there isn't much happening between 7:30pm and 10:00pm local time during the week, weekends are better but then I do have a life :-)

Make sure you have joined global channels. And be willing to alt.
On virtue this includes virture TFs/Virtures taskforce 2010, Virtue United, Virture LFG Alpha. Often tfs all hours of the day, and always groups to be had.
If you're willing to start one, you can have a team/taskforce any time.
If you are a regular justice player, make sure you are on the Australia channel. I lurk on it a lot (less use for me as its 99% justice server orientated, and I'm not on justice very much.) and they run taskforces at least twice a week, more since i19. Go to the australia section of this forum, and see thier schedules.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
