What is this talk about Unification?
You didn't know that NCsoft had already torpedoed the EU section of the business thus there simply isn't anything to support EUwise, all the EU money goes directly to the American branch of NCsoft, since that is where all the staff are (including the support staff), that kind of shoots down you're whole 'buy your regional copy, support your region, if you don't you're a moron!' arguement.

Wow at first i didnt know what this is all about, i do now..got no comment but please continue, its actually fun reading.
Actually there is someone at the EU office now. Met him last month, nice chap, short on hair, forced Dante to do this because of it.

Ok so we now have a man and a possibly a dog, it's a step up from just possibly the dog!
Also Dante got moves!
Some problems we can't solve right now, that was the point of my post. Latency is a real issue. Going From one contintent to another over the internet creates a great distoration/delay. I keep seeing all of these people trying to get on NA servers but the EU and other countries have a better telecom infrastructure for gaming than the US. It's VANITY at work.

Where's a decent facedesk picture when I need one..?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I wish he'd come back and say more silly things. I'm all ready to break out the Stop Talking Lemur, and point out to him that when someone far away has latency, THEY stop moving, not everyone else on the team with them...

I'm in the UK. I joined before there were EU servers and didn't feel like moving. I often have both a faster and more stable connection than most of my US team mates and I usually load faster too.
This is an MMO, latency is almost a non-issue since it only effects the person who suffers from it and the game doesn't require fast reaction times anyway.

Plus, I'm not sure latency is a real issue, at least not for UK users playing on the NA servers, as evidenced above. Where is this information about the telecoms infrastructure coming from? Citations needed please.
That's the thing about networks. Real world distance between systems frequently isn't as significant as the number of hops and the bandwidth, configuration and connection quality between those hops. Most people either don't know or don't care about the most basic details of how stuff like that works and just assume that the real world length of the "tubes" is all that matters.

As an Australian who plays on the US servers and who played quite happily from Europe while on holidays I can confirm that latency is not a real problem and varies more from day to day than continent to continent.
Would love a merged server list, ideally before I make the next trip to visit family in Europe

Truth be told, if there was ever a server list merge, we'ld so have to do a NA v EU event

I played out of Korea from third-wave beta through to launch and then until 2005 when I came back to the States...I had no problem doing that at all.
In addition, if latency is what causes command lag and rubberbanding, I get that frequently here in San Antonio, Tx

Interesting fact!
Latency is actually BETTER for most of the EU players on US servers because the German infastructure where the servers are housed is downright TERRIBLE, the data has to go through so many hoops it is unbelievable, most non-German players actually have a better time on the US servers. Also the EU players did buy their copies...you know what happened. The EU side of NCsoft got shutdown...completely, the Brighton offices were gutted leaving only the marketting people (One man and his dog for CoH marketting in the EU...and we haven't seen the man in some time) who spend most of their time pushing Guild Wars 2. All the support staff were laid off and EU support is done from the US now, yes even the German and French support staff are based in the US. There are no local support staff to keep in employ because they've already gone! |

There's a vast armada of underused freight vessels constantly dropping anchor offshore (they anchor offshore while idle to avoid harbor fees), and they frequently damage the cables. They've got a huge but never-ending detect/find/patch operation going on there... and some of their temporary reroutes cause frequent router overload or just extra thousands of miles of transmission distance.
Oh now you know that'ld be a great theme for going rogue Pick your side! Will you join the Americans or rise from the ashes with the EUers?
*sigh* Would be epic . . . . .

When the servers are merged... we are going to put this together!!!
We'll come up with a whole plot and everything...
And stuff!

I've heard that Australia's (and much of Oceania, for that matter) daily fluctuations in latency issues when connecting to other regions is largely due to the vast number of transoceanic lines that run through/near Singapore.
