What is this talk about Unification?
I know who Blizzard is, but I don't understand your question.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Yeah, I'm a tad confused. People in Korea HAVE to play on the NA or EU servers, as to Kiwis and Aussies and anyone else in the world as they are the only 2 options. As for Latency, people who have both NA and EU accounts generally report BETTER connections to the NA servers than they do to the EU servers.
I saw a post here and on Blizzard for people requesting unified play.
This sounds attractive in theory but is difficult due to a well known problem called latency. I'm bring this up not to support unification but to understand this movement. Latency is a real issue it reduces the quality of play for everyone involved. 1. I hate having my sessions held up because your almost a day away from me. 2. When companies create regional servers, they feel there is enough business to support it. Play and support your region! Show your intelligence and purchase your regional copy. If I hear another lame excuse like " I accidentally bought a NA edition." I'm going to puke...we can see your through your lies. People are not a dumb as you think. We trained you better than this. Don't embarrass this fine community with your ineptitude. 3. Why would Koreans want to play with NA? I'm just using this as an example. There is a 12 hour difference. I'm getting up, your going to bed. 4. I get plenty of regional spam now on CoH. Why would I want global spam? Why? Why? Why? The comment line is now open. |
2) I got fed up of running Brutes solo EU side, so I switched to the US where there are more players meaning PuGs are plentiful. This was around 9 months back and chances are the EU side has been busy recently but I'm not dropping my current alts, I'm enjoying them too much.
3) Because #2 failed in their case, the regional servers were closed down and all Koreans do play US side (or maybe EU side). As do the Aussies. So what if you're gone to bed, they can play with others from their region instead.
4) How exactly do you know the difference?
And ironically I tend to get less latency from Dublin to Virtue than I used to from Dublin to Union.
I... think this post is talking about possibly merging the NA and EU server lists (or rather, not wanting to)? In which case, these are pretty horrible reasons for being against it.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Strangely enough, people are allowed to be friends with people on other continents.
And as for people never wanting to play together because of different time zones... my strange sleeping habits led me to make the acquaintance of several Australians, and I even became good enough friends with two of them that they invited me to come visit them. I had the time and money at that time, so I did!
So yeah. Latency can be annoying at those distances, but not enough of a problem to really impact play.
As for where the talk is coming from... it seems to be only wishful thinking from players at this point.

Dear OP, your post is rather confusing. In the absence of further clarification, I'm going to assume that, along with pretty much everyone else, you're in favour of merging the US and EU server lists.
So, yeah. Merge the server lists, ASAP!
Arc#314490: Zombie Ninja Pirates!
Defiant @Grouchybeast
Death is part of my attack chain.
only problems i foresee atm is on the Eu servers Defiant/Union are hitting yellow now, and the servers have been terrible for load times and lag because of this, now I don't know about the NA servers but if they were to merge EU/NA using the EU servers the game would be unplayable at certain times of day.
Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.
Slazenger, Area51, Area53, Area54, Erruption, Mind Plague, Thresher, Sheath, Broadside, Debt
Still itching to team with Mother's Love, Floating Fat Man, etc.

I don't think I understand the OP's question either so I'll assume he's in favour of a united server list as well. However, as a free tip, this:
Show your intelligence and purchase your regional copy. If I hear another lame excuse like " I accidentally bought a NA edition." I'm going to puke...we can see your through your lies. Your assertions make no sense and you still haven't addressed where people from Asia, Australia, and other parts of the world will play.
First off, you're apparently ignoring that people from all over the world already play on US servers. i know several people from Australia and New Zealand who play on the US servers as well as a few who live in Japan and play here. i frequently team with a bunch of other people who live outside the US that i know from in game even if i don't recall exactly where they live.
Your reply to how you can tell where spam comes from makes even less sense. In game McAfee tells you nothing about where a spammer originated. Outside the game spam can also originate almost anywhere and applications like McAfee are of limited utility in determining actual origin. A fair chunk of spam is generated by botnets, and the individual computers in the network and the controller of the botnet can be anywhere on the planet that has internet connections.

i make stuff...
Interesting fact!
Latency is actually BETTER for most of the EU players on US servers because the German infastructure where the servers are housed is downright TERRIBLE, the data has to go through so many hoops it is unbelievable, most non-German players actually have a better time on the US servers.
Also the EU players did buy their copies...you know what happened.
The EU side of NCsoft got shutdown...completely, the Brighton offices were gutted leaving only the marketting people (One man and his dog for CoH marketting in the EU...and we haven't seen the man in some time) who spend most of their time pushing Guild Wars 2. All the support staff were laid off and EU support is done from the US now, yes even the German and French support staff are based in the US.
There are no local support staff to keep in employ because they've already gone!
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
Apparently the key problem is located in Germany, I can't remember why but back when we had our own forums people looked at the problem using nettrace etc. Everything ran fine for UK residents right up until the data entered Germany, then something went wonky for them.

As to this:

I will say this OP.
You do need to do more research.
You didn't know that NCsoft had already torpedoed the EU section of the business thus there simply isn't anything to support EUwise, all the EU money goes directly to the American branch of NCsoft, since that is where all the staff are (including the support staff), that kind of shoots down you're whole 'buy your regional copy, support your region, if you don't you're a moron!' arguement.
Second of all as has been mentioned, the length of the tube isn't really a big issue, the actual infrastructure in place in the country the data is coming too and from is the big Issue, Germany just seems to have a really convoluted system which makes the EU servers more wonky for UK residents.
Thirdly, some of us here have both EU and US accounts, while I don't really play my US account that much it is mostly for the US exclusive stuff that goes on (the new pack is up on US test only for example, as if often the way and Closed Beta with regards Issues is often for US account holders only, Going Rogue was the odd one in that both US and EU account holders got into it).
3. Why would Koreans want to play with NA? I'm just using this as an example. There is a 12 hour difference. I'm getting up, your going to bed. |
Could you also define what you say is a local time? Should a player playing in the UK be teaming with somebody in eastern Europe who are a few hours ahead?
I've got a low level NA account but i want to team with certain NA [server] players so badly on my proper characters
Troof. Still itching to team with Mother's Love, Floating Fat Man, etc. |
Edit: Just to add that i get next to no lag on freedom, but still get really bad load screens/random crashes/rubberbanding on Union/Defiant
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
This comment is totally illogical. How could a network connection be faster than a local server? EU was one of the first to do broadband deregulation. Actually, the EU and Asia should have the fastest connections.

Unless you've played exclusively solo or with a select handful of people you know in real life, you've played with people on other continents and not even noticed. Of this I am sure. Not to mention that if you and a friend across the room are playing there in Maryland, both your signals are still travelling from one end of the country and back before you see what they just did on their screen.
People ask for the merger of US and EU servers, for the good of the community, not because of lack of technical knowhow. They know people on the EU servers get the short end of the stick when it comes to number of servers, number of people to team with, and potential for fun.

Were you aware there's nothing on the packaging to differentiate the two?
Were you aware most gaming stores don't carry the physical product on the shelves?
Were you aware that means most people have to buy it online?
Were you aware that there's very little obvious on the website to differentiate the two?
Were you aware that if you buy from a gaming retailer in the US or the EU, you're trusting them to list the correct info, ship the correct product, and know the difference between the two regardless of whatever research you may have done?
Do you understand what the correct answers to these questions mean?
That's right. It means if someone gets the wrong version, it's most often through no fault of their own!
Translation: Stop and think or at least stop and ask questions before you make such ignorant comments again. It's offensive.

About the reason for post, I don't have the solution. I don't run a hosting business and I'm not a game developer all I care about is my ingame experience.
