My reaction

Honestly why do producers have this horrid mentality that if one concept makes money for one film. That they can apply said concept into their franchise and expect the same financial results. What the producers of the new Superman series are trying to do is kind of like a perverse version of the quote "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results." Except what they're trying to repeat has no bearing or relation to what they are trying to apply it to.

Because far to often, the sheeple prove them right.

2 questions:

1) Will he sparkle in the sunlight?

2) How does emo-superman cut himself?

This is not so bad. Why? It's an elseworlds story basically, set on Earth 1 which is not the main DCU.

So we can just happily brush it aside and continue knowing that 'duh superman is superman' and not worry about this emo punk version.

I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.

fnially some logic in this thread.

Also, i was looking at the catalog book, i cant remember the bname, its from diamond distribution, theres a couple lined up of these, Batman and WW i believe were next it peeked my interest.

More so than Allstar Superman. Blehn, bad art, bad writing.

So far, that image has me hooked. ill give it a whirl and if i dont like it then thats just a couple bucks i lost.

Over-reaction much?

A) If anything, blame Smallville.

B) After you're done blaming Smallville, blame Marvel and their Ultimate line. That's all this is, a line of OGN's re-interpreting Superman (and then Batman) so that their origins are modern day. They're also changing things a bit. Clark is scrawny and broody (which isn't much of a change, considering Smallville) and, as I understand anyway, Bruce won't be the uber-ninja for a long, long time (if ever) in this shared universe.

C) It's ELSEWORLDS! This Superman will be entirely separate from the mainstream DCU. As far as the normal comic books go that most of you who are complaining don't even read anyway, Superman will still be the big blue boyscout in pretty much the same costume he's had for the last 70 odd years.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

good luck D.B.B.

Eh, that's not so easy to buy since he spent no time there. All his childhood memories are from Kansas; he didn't really have any direct link to Krypton.

Sure, it might knock ya for a loop when you find out you're the last of your kind, but considering he looks and functions pretty much like a human, I don't think it's that big a thing.

Does he have reason to be a little whistful or melancholy now and then?

Definitely.

But "brooding"?

Naw, I still don't think so.

It's the internet... I though overreaction was mandated...

But there is some genuine pain assouated with seeing one of your childhood icons "twilighted"...

Now, after me and my sister resounding had a laught at this idea, we both agreed this would be an intresting look for SuperBOY... the new (well not really new anymore) Conner Kent clone Superboy. It'd be better IMO then his current Tshit/jeans. Not a fan of that. It's not a BAD look persay... just... lazy... IMO. Put some effort into it man!

ah, the great comprehension fail. im looking forward to this since it's being written by JMS. reading the article makes me wonder if the moron even actually read the graphic novel, or he's yapping his trap with the few preview pages he's been able to see online? the art looks decent and the idea is to build superman from the ground up. but instead of releasing it over a period of months, one issue at a time, they're releasing the whole story in a graphic novel format.

so, howsabout before we whine doom, we go and read the book? mmm k?

When JMS's current track record includes the Spider-man retcon of Gwen having a relationship with Norman and then having babies that just happened to be speed aged to the same age as Peter. Also, creating the Spider totem idea, but not being willing to expand on it to it's most absurd extreme, other than hint at the supposed connections.

Yeah... I'm more than a little wary about this.

*shrug* editorial meddling. it's one of the reasons he eventually left the book. those kids were originally supposed to be Pete and Gwen's, but Joephisto thought Peter having sex, with his girlfriend... during the 1960s.... was unpossible, and thought it made much more sense that Gwen boned Norman instead... not one of the better moments, but im not blaming JMS.

also, i guess im one of like ten fans who thought the totem concept was probably one of the more original ideas to go through the comic in some time. But that's me.

It's pretty hard to be brooding when you wear the literal symbol of hope in your origin's planet's language.

I am with you about the Totem. I actually have the Evolve or Die in hardcover. I bought it prior to my ban of Marvel Comics.

Agreed. There's been info and articles out there about this book for months now on the major comics sites, many of them involving conversations with people actually involved in creating the book. Why would anyone form an opinion on it on a NY Post article by someone who clearly is just looking to grab cheap, easy hits? I think it sounds like a potentially great book, and JMS' track record on Supreme Power gives me confidence that he can write a "brooding Superman" without it getting cheesy. Before getting up in arms, try looking up some real information on this book from an actual comics site.

of course it helps if you understand what the symbol means in the first place, or that this time around that's actually what it means. and of course, a personal gripe, ive never liked that particular explanation about the "S" shield. i've always been fond of John Byrne's idea. That Pa and Clark thought it up after Lois wrote the article naming him Superman in the first place.

I have only one thing to say on the brooding angle-
Man of Steel Woman of Kleenex

(Though for the record, it does look really painful, and I certainly will avoid the TPB).

Too many alts to list.

In general, when it comes to JMS I rarely find his original ideas any better than the editorial mandated changes we get stuck with. I enjoy his writing a lot, but he really doesn't seem to have the knack for writing established characters. He thrives with the total creative control that only comes from writing your own universe, free from the meddling of other authors. I really wish he'd get more into creator owned properties for a lot of his ideas, because he just doesn't seem to have the reverence for the source material to play well with other people's toys.

I dont see the problem its a graphic novel...they are trying to find a new cutomer for an existing toon. Once a month i hit my local Borders store and sitting right next to the graphic novel section is a whole Twilight series collection with big displays and lots of books and gear...so they are trying to introduce that crowd into the DC line. Granted i would have created a new toon for this purpose but then again Supes has quite a bit of back material...even if its in a diffrent direction...this might be a "gateway book" for some of these kids!

Also heck its only the price of a lunch or a few soda's... if you dont like it dont buy it...thats hip to say these days isnt it?
