Feedback: Power Sound effects
There's a powerset which I've never, ever played past the first few levels because I just cannot stand the sound effects. Electric Blast. Frankly, all electric powers except perhaps Lightning Rod. I really wish that the hollow, tinny sound effects currently used for electric powers had some crack and rumble to them like actual lightning. The current sound effects are fine for Clockwork, but I think the rest of the enemies who use electricity, and especially the powersets available to the players, should sound like the Mu lightning. When City of Villains was released and I ran across the Mu mystics, the first thing I said was "THAT is how electric powers should sound!" I have been hoping ever since that those sound effects would be adapted to all the rest of the lightning powersets that players can use, but they never have. A shame, since the effects obviously exist already.

I got to say I love the sounds of kinetic melee... I know a lot of people hates it, but I think is so cool.
I would like to see a couple of things changed or removed:
I think sonic blast should have new sound FX, something more generic or similar to the Seers attacks, or different for each gender.
I always wanted to create a superheroine with sonic blast, but I cant stand the awful FX.
Also tought (fighting pool) taunt (super strenght) and force of nature (force mastery)... I hate that savage scream, looks like Tarzan monkey Cheetah.
Can we just have a different animation with no scream and chest beating?
Subjective Feedback: The Sonic powerset sounds need to be looked at. They are still some of the worst, most grating sounds in the game. Also, please redo the Dual Blades sounds. The "kling-klang" when hitting things is annoying and silly. Dual Blades should sound more like the swords Cimerorans use (those actually sound really cool).

WARNING: I bold names.
The only good thing this change did, for ME, is it removed the music in the sewer entrances (Which I never understood why that was there, hehe).

If you could switch the emotes to be a part of the environment sounds rather than the music sounds, you'd make me rather happy!

Feedback: Could you guys please fix that soundbug, causing an endless loop of one soundeffect in big parties with lot's of enemies and then the game crashes? This has nothing to to with processor type, it happens with quadcore too.
It happens mostly with blaster sounds (esp. from prätorian clockwork).
Is there a way CoH could be the first to allow customizable sound effects for powers? Just like the power color customization at the tailor, people should be able to select sound effects for their powers. Restricting it to sound effects existing within the power set might make it easier to code and maintain some sense of the effects. A Super Strength punch that sounds like an explosion might not be reasonable, but then again, we are playing as superheroes.
That would make me happy, so I could get rid of the annoying "pew woo woo woo woo" sound effect on my sonic assault defender.
I'd love customizable taunt sound myself.
You only need a few different vocals of "You're all under arrest" and then what could be cool is a second later a random background voice shouts "Get that one".
Better than any Urrgh Arrgh.
The taunt power could be made up of two vocals, one we pick and a reply thats always a random reply to supposedly come from the target.
On a target like an AV that would usually be the last one standing and so have no one to say "Get that one" too, the taunt could be, "I'm taking you in" and the random reply could be "Over your dead body" or something.
Players could suggest things to say maybe and the best suggestions get used. I know alot of people find the current sound annoying. In my five plus years of playing tankers the sound is always off.

Normalize the sound levels across the powersets. Some powersets blast my speakers off the shelf while others I can barely hear.
Demon summoning; please, oh please make them not roar so often. With sugar on top even. Glowies/Zowies; when the sound volume was reduced back many issues ago to make them not quite so loud through the walls, they went too soft with it. Now at times I have to be right on top of one before I can hear it. Please increase the volume slightly. Give us an option to turn off personal power sounds such as Practised Brawler. I really hate soloing while hearing Vroom, Vroom, Vroom for hours on end. Just one example. Arctic fog with the foghorn is another annoying one. I would love to be able to turn those off just for myself. On others it doesn't bother me, I can always move away out of the effect range. Wentworths/Black Market; I would love to see this become a power free and sound effect free area. I would love to see some of the Giant Monsters and AV's actually say something during the fight. Give them a voice. Even just one or two sound bites that get triggered at a HP level would be cool. Thanks for asking for feedback. |
Please do not make the went worth/black market areas power suppressed. I would miss not being able to use base teleportor, portable crafting station. I would hate to lose dom, spend time retoggleing etc.
A section for power supressed markets like studio B would be much better.
Even better would be a temp power/allocade to interact with market away from it like the recent vet power.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
Soul Drain, the Dark Melee damage-buffing aoe, is too loud. Like, astonishingly too loud. There have been times where I've had the master volume turned down to 1% and my music player tuned to 200% and it still drowns everything else out.
I put in a ticket, on the blaster power set of X-Ray Beam, when you use the alternate animation, which btw, I really like, the sound goes away on the power. Otherwise, I like most of the sounds. I agree the KM set sounds a bit too mechanical, otherwise most of the sets I am happy with
I'd like the ability to turn off every sound in the game except the glowie sound. I don't care about the other sounds.
I'd just like to add my voice to those requesting an overhaul of the sonic soundset and please, please turn off the annoying whine with the peacebringer powers. I can't play a peacebringer without getting quickly wound up and irritable because of the sound effects, and it's a shame to lose all the atmosphere if I have to turn the sound off.
I also love the idea of customisable sounds for powers but I won't be hoping for that to happen in a hurry ..
Objective:
Sonic Blast's Howl power sound is exactly the same as the warwolf NPC howls. Why?!
Subjective:
Shut up the demons. Also, while mastermind robots foot clanking sounds are cool, they are also too loud compared to other effects and can overpower other sounds in the area.
Sonic blast and sonic resonance could use some other effects. The sounds do get annoying, especially for blast when you're fighting heavily. Scream's 'raspy cough' doesn't sound attacky or super at all, and howl as noted above is just cribbed from NPC sound files and isn't all that good.
Kinetic melee's sounds have, seriously, made me stop playing the set. I wanted to play the set. I think I might like the set. I cannot stand the sounds for the set.
The sound effects for most of the electric type powers also have turned me off from playing them. Electric blast's sound effects are annoying, while electric melee's are both annoying and wimpy-sounding (this makes electric assault really screwed).
Peacebringer hum being removed would be very nice.
Neutrino bolt's sound effect could be nicer. Options or updated sound effects for eye beam powers (x-ray, laser eyes, etc) might be good too, IMO.
IDF heavy trooper and heavy commander 'missile spam' sound effect is loud, high pitched, and practically constant because they spam those missile powers so much. It could really use a tone-down or something.
"Experience is the mother of good judgement. Bad judgement is the father of experience."
Subjective: Sonic Attack.
Too many attacks sound like screams when sonic shockwaves actually sound like thunder, earthquakes, sonic booms. When sonic shockwaves start to cause damage, that is what they sound like, unless you mean just eardrum damage. So less screaming and more thunder and sonic booms. The new sounds could be applied to alternate animations at the Tailor, so a Thunder-like "Scream" power could eminate from the arms or central mass, while a Sonic Boom "Shockwave" power could eminate from a foot smashing to the ground. Things like this for other powers, or players could just choose thunder-like Sonic Attack sound-set.
Objective: Most players find Sonic Attack's multiple screams irritating and slightly unrealistic, so an alternative sound-set would be welcomed by many.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Ever since the change that made some buffs AoE, Speed Boost and ID can get very (and unnecessarily) loud.

Objective:
The beep when someone posts a league message is higher pitched than a regular group message.
Would it be possible to modify this so that a female character who posts a group message makes a higher pitched beep than a male character? Just as in a normal conversation, the female voices will generally be higher pitched.
Maybe use a different sound effect altogether for league messages.
Subjective:
The mission completion music gold side is very Anti-Climatic and depressing.
Sounds more like you failed the mission than won it.
OBJECTIVE:
Having read through this thread, I can agree with the sonic readjustment. Also....gravity. The sound in this video would work SO much better.

Most of the sounds ingame are fairly good. Perhaps some evening of them, as has been suggested.
SUBJECTIVE:
I personally haven't heard the ingame sounds in over three years. I usually turn them all the way down, and listen to my winamp. This is because I personally do not like most of them.
If you could make it so that Wentworths patrons who leave Hasten on auto could be fed to MM demons then two of my primary annoyances could be dealt with...and then my revenge would be complete... *wrings hands*

I replied to this long ago about good sounds and sounds that either need to be changed, have the ability to "turned down" or done away with. We all remember back in the day the "Super Speed" Humming sound that would always be on when you had SS on. Now, it only comes on for a brief second when activated then goes quite. I was in Wentworths the other day just minding my own business when three, that's right 3 MM's with Demon Summoning where using the same vender next to me. And yes, they ALL had their demons spawned with them. You can imagine the howls and growls from their Demons. Don't get me wrong, I love MM's. I've got a Demon Summoning MM myself. With that being said, the overall theme when you peruse this post, is noticing all the complaints about this one big sound issue. I would think that the dev's would take notice on this one being that it seems it is one of the more annoying sound effects in the game. Not sure if this can be fixed in a patch or having to wait for a new issue for this to change. I am not sure of any good solution for this, turning it off, changing the volume of the sound or changing the sound effect altogether, who knows?
If there were selectable alternate power sounds for the electric powers that would be great. They're all so high pitch and annoying, I can't play a single electric based toon without getting a severe headache within 30 minutes. That, or tell your sound expert to cut the 4k out of the existing sounds.

I have to say, the sounds on Street Justice are about as impact sounding as a moths wing against a window....half the time it sounds like you are simply missing your attacks, not enough meaty Punch/kick sounds...alot of *Whiff Whiff Whiff* as you attack, sometimes I am not even sure I have connected with a mob due to this. Needs some impact oomph!
Thanks for your time.

There is an issue with the sounds of Kinetic Melee. The "impact" sounds do not get reduced with range. If you're close enough to hear it, you hear it at full volume.
