Feedback: Power Sound effects
THIS! Please! Please please!
I know it would take coding, but how hard is it to trim sounds to certain sizes? |
1. Ice armor. The sounds are grating on the ears and dont disappear.
2. Taunt. I feel like all my female tanks are heavy steroid abusers. I'd LOVE to have some alternate voices, like 'GET OVER HERE!' ala scorpion or even a 'your momma is soooo ...' ;-)
Nothing infuriates villains like a 'your momma' joke
50 Tanks: Invul/ss, Fire/ice/fire, Ice/em, Stone/fire
WP/Stone, dark/dark, shld/mace

The volume is too loud. The sounds so grating and disgusting I refuse to play the set and would rather not team with anyone who does. It gives me a headache.
I dislike sonic for the same reasons, but to a lesser extent. I can bear to team with a sonic.

Governments have fallen to the power of social media. Gaming companies can too.
Sonic attacks. Specially awful on females. Need their own gene or more unisex sounds.
Tarzan screem for tough, and some of the defensive sets. Silly. Period.
Hibernate needs a sound for when you're breaking out of the ice. Like the Ice Block transformation.
I definatly agree with the changes that need to be made to the sonic set. Id like the option for high pitched screaming and deep roars for toons that use their voice, and maybe something more electronic for robot toons using speakers.
One of the problems I have at the moment is my Dark Control powers. Some of them have a strange 'Wumm wumm' to them which seems disjointed from the set. Can we have some quiet screaming or moaning when the spirts are swirling around a mob instead? Also with the AoE hold, id like a haunting roar as the shadow hands come out and wrap around the mob. I feel silly having to add my own sound effects.
Rockshock (Druid Tanker), Medicat (Combat Medic), Dwarf From the North (Ice Mage), Rocket Gal (Energy Blaster), Graveborn (Undead Mastermind), Streeker (Punching Speedster), Op. Sidewinder (Recluse's pet Spider)
Any chance to mute the pet sound effects on the new Beast Mastery set? The sounds of the wolves yelping in pain when hit seemed to be difficult for many members of a team I recently played with, as many of them were dog lovers.

I recently did a performance of Phantom of the Opera, and a well trained singer or wind instrument musician can do a much more powerful shriek or bone chilling scream than your average office secretary, so if you need inspiration, that's where I'd look.

It seems to decide it's annoyed by something and goes into 30 seconds of constant yapping. Very, very distracting indeed.
*ARF-ARF-ARF-ARF* To expand on *ARF-ARF-ARF* this I would also *ARF-ARF-ARF-ARF-ARF-ARF* like this bloody *ARF-ARF* Umbral Beast *ARF-ARF-ARF* to shut up *ARF-ARF-ARF* please.

If the sound effect for this power doesn't get changed, could it at least become an option for pet sounds to be minimized or turned off via Null the Gull?

PLEASE! DEVS! Please just a quick post to say, 'Were working on it' will do. We just need to know that someone can hear us over this damn barking!

Now we get no option in game and are forced to root through the files 80's dos style and defense from people here of the devs for a bad decision by saying how hard is it to root through the files etc...
The bottom line on this on a QOL side is nothing less than object failure on the devs part.
They will change the beasts when they change the demons, which I think is BAFO.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Havent read the entire thread, but:
Objective:
Gravity Control- with the changes to the way the set works, spamming propel and the Lift(?) power ends up with a really really annoying and spammy/repetitive sound, turn them down at the least, or move them into a lower frequency range so they are not as jarring over a long period of time. Throw them through a dual band filter then run a compressor with a really low ceiling on anything over 3.5k, everything under that is fine.
Subjective:
create two extra sound files to be randomly used for every similar power(blasts, melee, aoe, buff, debuff, thematic) in a set. Watch as players rejoice when a power does an unexpected sound every 20th(?) activation.
Sonic:
Sonic sounds do not actually have to be "sound based", in as much as an amplifier hum can make people think of electric guitars, activation periods for powers can be used to playback audio "set ups".
for example, take the snipe from Sonic blast(not even sure if sonic blast even exists lol :P ) having a sound file that builds in volume and bandwidth PRIOR to the power actually going off, and then cutting to a white noise fizz during the power firing animation, would be far more impressive and awe inspiring (IMHO) then having a person open their mouth and firing off the power, accompanied by wibbley wobbley zap/screech noises.
Using Sound Pressure to damage things can be achieved via both ends of the spectrum, but ultimately if you have enough Sound Pressure Level you can theoretically shake anything to pieces, so frequency range is less important then raw Pressure. Alluding to the power necessary to achieve this kind of destruction, can be achieved by actually Dropping audio volume. The ideal would be that when this hypothetical Sonic Snipe finally does go off, all players in the vicinity would be momentarily Unable to Hear, and thusly ... silence would be far more eloquent, for displaying such a power, then Noise!
Oh and if you did make a Sonic Snipe drop everyones ingame audio levels... as much as I would think it was cool I'm sure some people would feel violated somehow, perhaps over a loss of control(?) .... but in the end it would be less violating then horrible noise ... esp. horrible high frequency noise (which incidently is far more damaging to our hearing).
Actually, when it comes to pet sounds in general, I wouldn't mind something like Pet Sounds off under Options. This would not only effect MM pets but Controller/Dominator pets as well. This would take care of the Umbra beast sound while also the other pet howls that everyone finds moderately annoying sometimes.
This would be handy for powers with sound effects that get old fast like beam rifle. As well Demon summoning any thing to stop them from growling all the time.

The equivalent for human minions would be is if your mercenaries screamed miserably and cried in pain when hit, or threw up every time someone critted them. Beast mastery looks amazing, and I wanted to buy it until I heard the whimpering. Now I'm just glad I tried it out first.

Options->All Pet Sounds Off would be second highest on my "on/off in Options" request list.
Pets and their respective visual FX cause enough slowdown on my ancient Franken-PC as it is, without adding in the extra annoyance of stuttering repetitive SFX so loud and jarring that I end up turning my speakers off everytime I'm Leagued with MMs and Umbral 'trollers!
Oh, and for the record? Highest on my "on/off in Options" list would be Incarnate visual FX - the slowdown they cause me is just beyond crazy these days.
That would make me happy, so I could get rid of the annoying "pew woo woo woo woo" sound effect on my sonic assault defender.
