Feedback: Power Sound effects

I would like to play a Demon Mastermind but found the sounds too much for me. And this from someone who likes pet classes. Really the demon howl turned me off. I tend not to group with them also so I haven't heard the heal sounds and can't comment on those.

The volume level on the robots walking/running/summoning can be overbearing at times.

The Kheldons could do with more variety in their squid form. Only 4 attacks and they all sound the same.

I think having the option to customize sounds on some powers would be cool. Even if each power had one optional sound that goes with the animation.

I don't mind the roaring of the demons but I'm crazy. They keep me company:<

Guess I'm surprised to read more complaints about the roar and not the extremely bad sinus infection breathing sound. Someone give the demons some Mucinex. I would have to say the demon breathing gets on my nerves more than the occasional roar.

The sounds from certain emotes - Drum and Drumlow along with the boomboxes - used to play the sounds/music through the regular sound options... but, a few issues ago, they were switched to the Music sound options.

Subjective: As someone who plays with the music options turned off to not hear the in-game zone music (Not because I hate it or anything, I just prefer no background music)... I would like to still be able to hear the banging of drums and the music coming from placed boom boxes.
The only good thing this change did, for ME, is it removed the music in the sewer entrances (Which I never understood why that was there, hehe).

If you could switch the emotes to be a part of the environment sounds rather than the music sounds, you'd make me rather happy!
While were on the subject of drums you need to fix them for banished pantheon. They make a really weird sound that doesn't sound a thing like the drums use to sound before the dark mirror issue. Its that same odd sound that gun drone makes now when your character is pressing the arm keypad to activate it.

As for the flying sound, I personally liked the previous one before they toned it down. It sounded more like the wind passing by as you flew. I definately don't want to go back to not having any air at all. But I would like to see the hovering air sound that we've had forever to go away. Should only be sound when you moving.

Perhaps different volume sliders for music, combat sounds, character voices and enviroment would be good idea.

Running water needs a update/fix. Am I the only one that hears some sort of office telephone ring in the background of water pouring out of the pipes in the sewers? Its been that way for as long as I can remember. Atleast it sounds like one of those office telephone rings or some sort of computerized sound.

Subjective:

I would like different sounds for both Sonic and Energy Blast. Some of the sonic attacks sound like someone is trying to clear their throat while some of the energy attacks remind me of someone trying to plunge a toilet with air (what can I say? I'm goofy).

Also, many of the ice attacks on various powersets have the wind blowing sound after the attack which gets annoying quickly.

Thanks for asking our two cents. :-)

Objective Feedback:
Electric Control sounds do not match those of the other electrical sets.

Subjective Feedback:
I prefer the *crackling* sound of the other electrical sets (blast, manipulation, melee). The dull *humming* sounds of Electric Control, while possibly more authentic to the actual sound of power running through a substance, are much less dynamic. On an elec/elec dominator, the difference in sound effects between is very noticable with the electrical blast sound effects being preferable.

I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.

Demons are loud and persistent. Maybe some adjustment on their volume and/or the frequency of their howling would be a good thing.
I'm going to have to agree with everyone commenting about the demons being too loud and too frequent with the roaring.

I'm also not very fond of the kinetic melee sounds. Its also too loud and the buzz is too annoying when you hear it over and over again. I mean, it sounds cool once... but the frequent attacks have me turning off my speakers and getting no audio cues from the game at all just because I can't stand listening to KM anymore. I won't even play KM... tried and it got old fast. Having to deal with KM teammates... speakers off.

Subjective Feedback: For the love of all that is holy PLEASE change the Kinetic Melee sounds. I've got over 20 fifties, so I've played this game a ton, and this is the first powerset where I've had any issue with sound effects. My biggest issue with them is the 'gleeking' atari 2600 sound effect you hear with each attack, if that were removed I'd be ok with them. I'm not as hateful of the 'racecar' swoosh effect as many seem to be, but perhaps a less racecary swoosh could be found. BUT this is a melee set in a superhero game, so the end of each attack should be somewhat forceful and booming, perhaps more of a 'crack!' than a 'boom!' though.

It seems that every other one of these post has an issue with the Demons and I would hope the Dev's take notice of that as it does get annoying at times when I play my MM and watching others standing around by a vendor with their Demon pets making those ungodly roaring sounds.

As for the Kinetic Melee. I just got my KM/SD Scrapper to level 22. I guess this being my first exposure to the new power, I really have no pros or cons on their sound effects but when I picked-up Body Blow last night and used it, it kind of sounded like an old rusty swing set that my Grandpa had out behind his house. When you swung, you would always hear that "creaking" rusty metal sound. I am not sure what else would work here based on the visual effects that are displayed when used? Maybe more of a "swishing" type sound like the wind because your hand movements are pretty much "swishing" in the air. I don't know, did the Matrix characters have sound effects when they threw a punch, I can't remember?

We all agree on the roaring sound but nobody else is annoyed by the loud sinus infection breathing that they do?

Subjective feedback: Dual pistols have so much better sounds than assault rifle. I think rifle needs a little bit stronger sound and perhaps option for silenced version. Right now our silencers are only for decoration.

edit. I think kinetic melee sounds more like electric chainsaw.

There are a few sounds that would be nice if they were changed or similair to the alternate animations also have an alternate choice of sound fx so that when creating a character we can choose the type that matches our theme or preference. Personally I would like to see....i mean hear these sets to be changed if poss

Archery - Less twang and more like the strongbow adverts please.

Assault Rifle - More like Dual pistiols please

Electric Blast - Sounds weak.... can it not be a cross between lightning and the pop of a bug zapper?

Martial Arts - Is it possible to have more of a swooshing noise and little more impact when they hit?

Thats just what I can think of just now...

Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.

Haven't stayed close to them long enough to listen to them breathing. By the third or fourth roar, I'm looking for anywhere else to be.

Subjective feedback: The sound effect of Healing Aura and Radiant Aura is, by itself, quite melodious and fitting. However, when these powers are put on auto by players and we get to listen to one triumphant blast after the other every 10 seconds, it gets nerve-grinding pretty fast. Especially in the pauses between battles when the sound isn't being muffled by other effects.

Could something be done about this? I assume that the devs are aware of how annoying the auto-heal is since they introduced Soothing Aura for corruptors as a silent small healing wave. But could we have some could to render powers put on auto silent after the first activation? Essentially like toggles? Or just the Healing and Radiant Auras?

My ears would write you a poem.

First off i would like to add my agreement to the Sonic conversation, something needs to change there. Secondly Demons also need to be less vocal.I disagree with most about Kinetic Melee i love the sounds!!!

the one thing that drives me nuts, if i am forced to continually recast my force field bubbles on an entire party plus my pets, please please please change the soudn to something a bit lower toned. or maybe even a hum of energy. like a really old TV when its warming up or shutting off...I hate the fact that i have to recast them all over and over and over again, but if i have to deal with that please change the sounds !

Hmmmmm, I'm really surprised there hasn't been more feedback on sounds since the end of Oct. with that two month gap in between. Must have been i19 that kept people busy..heh..heh. Anyways, been playing my level 50 KM/SD Scrapper working on getting my Alpha slotted with a boost. When I first started my toon, I wasn't too sure about the KM sound effects. I ran a TF two weeks ago and someone was thinking the Clockwork we were fighting sounded like seals yelping. Little did they know it was me and my KM sound effects. I think now the sounds do fit KM and they work for what it was intended to sound like in conjunction with the animations. Basically a burst of energy if you can imagine what that sounds like.

Chrome and Fusion...if only you two heard what KM sounded like originally...

It was SO much better. IT could of been played off as Energy, Wind or water with it's sound effects. the only issue it had was the impact...it was very weak. That in my opinion is a quick tweak...yet they went ahead and redid the whole sound of the set 'cept for 1 power.

i would have loved to have heard it , but i really do liek the current sounds as is, and in comparison, if you have ever heard force bubble over and over and over up to 13 times every 4 minutes oh yeah times 2 and its only 13 times cause i wont buff anyones pets but my own... gah!!

While your sound engineer can't please everyone, what can be done so that we can do self-customizations is to give us a tool so that we know which sound is playing. Just like /whereami gives us the name of the exact map, I'd like a /whatihear to return back the names of the sound files.

That would make it so much easier for us to silence specific sounds intolerable to us (and which others may enjoy).

Or, complete sound customization!

Long time no posts here, hopefully someone is still reading.

Couple of items I consider more of bugs to start:
Earth Armor/Crystal armor - The only armor toggle left I know of where the sound effect does not fade after time, just keeps on looping. Needs to fade like the rest.
Fire Armor/Blazing aura - Also would be nice to be set as fading away sound as I think? all other damage aura powers do. The constant "thwump...thwump" gets annoying.

As to subjective feedback on powersets that I'd love alternate sounds to:
Sonic blast: As has been mentioned by most people already. The power Shout is particularly horrendous.
Kinetic Melee: Also agree with most here. After hearing it, I never even considered playing it due to its sounds, I'm not a NASCAR fan.

I concur with many of the observations made.

All opinions are subjective... so here are my subjective opinions.

1. Master Mind pet sounds are a bit loud and can be annoying... especially the demons (the scream is irritating) and clanking of the robots. This can be especially annoying in shops and Wentworths.

2. The sounds of Kinetics Melee are OK, but it could be more subtle; and it would be nice to have the option of a more wooshy wind sort of sound acompanied by an impact, instead of the mechanical whine (reminds me of those wind-up flashlights only lower). The execution time of those powers are also a bit slow due to the wind up... damage is not overwhelming for the lower powers so: slow execution + slow recharage+ weak damage = very slow fights.

3. Sonic powers sounds have been an issue for me...Ever since they came out, I've never been able to get one of those characters very far along because of the annoying sounds. The factory whistle sound, and other harsh noises seem wrong for the sort of characters I make: Merfolk, Opera Singers, etc. Also, they should do something different graphically for the sonic buffs. Sphere's are too much like FF. I find FF bubble annoying and sonic are worse because of the wave pattern...makes it hard to see outside the bubble. Perhaps a sonic wave hula-hoop or three.

I would love to see a more musical rendition of the powers... also, male and female sonic sounds should be different. It's wierd to see the same sound come out of both genders, especially some of the harsher sounds.

Personal preference:

Mace: sounds far too squishy /liquidy to me... like dropping a bowling ball into a bottomless vat of peeled tomatos. I would like to hear a more robust sound...like a thiiiiWHAP! or krrrCRUNCH! or vaaABOOOM! when it hits.

Lastly, maybe we could have some sort of volume supression system in Wentworths so we don't have to listen to noisy pets and toggle powers. The ones I fine really annoying are spines continuously firing off, fire pulses, mud pots, screaming demons, and clanking robots.

Subjective:

Electric Blasts need to be turned down. A lot. I hate playing electric blasters/fenders/dominators because all I hear is ZEEEEEEEM and FRRZEEEEEP and TSS TSS TSS BLERZRGT and a whole slew of hissing and squeaking.

More screams in Sonic Blast, less crazy noises and honks/howls.

All snipe powers need a rise in pitch, not just a steady noise in line with their individual theme.

Some of this off memory, forgive please if specifics are wrong:

Objective:
Lightning field for heroes has crackling sound that loops forever. Villain side, it fades to silence relatively soon after activation.

Ice sword wind howling goes on for a long time after the attack

Subjective:
Looping sounds with higher volumes/sharper peaks are annoying to their owners, moreso to teammates. Err on the side of toning these down/ tapering them totally off. For contrast, the fire shield loops are *less* annoying. For what it's worth, I don't mind the twinkly thrum of energy melee.

Would be ecstatic if powers silenced in the the auction house. And turning off my sound for audio annoyances is nearly as welcome a solution as turning off my monitor for graphical annoyances.

Demons... tell you what... put those sound effects over the office PA for an hour or two. Get my point? That's what you're subjecting your customers to.

Hasten was too loud and awkward, and a very popular autocast. Same with the standard empathy aura (volume, not sound quality). Not sure if they've been toned down, but used to be pretty bad offenders.

Not a power but... the clippy-cloppy slippity-clickety heel sounds that were changed a few issues back are over the top tonally (crispness) and in volume. This was desired/necessary? Additionally, they seem a touch out of sync with animation visuals, only compounding the distraction. They command the presence of a single loud set of heels in an enclosed, quiet space. They're out of place out on a city sidewalk, for example. The old footfalls were *just* there... which seems perfect in retrospect.

Thanks for asking for our input!
