I think my answers may be a little skewed because the individual ltems were not identified well from my perspecitve. I.e. I had no idea what some of those things were. Perhaps they were explained well to the people at the Plumit...especially the new power sets. What the holy handgrenade of Antioch is Nature's Favor or whatever it was? Water Blasting??? You understand. Some things just take more explaination than the name before people are going to get excited about it.
-
That's another idea. I'd rather have the option to get the effects of Trick Arrow without the bow animation which reallyd doesn't go well with say... assault rifle, dual pistols, etc.
-
Quote:Cough <gambit> cough.A deck of cards? I mean, that'd be great and all. But if marketing really wanted me to spend money, they'd save the card theme for a melee secondary (somehow) or an epic power pool. So that I'd have a reason to buy Staff Fighting. And the card set, wherever it goes. So that I could play Staff/Cards. No reason.
Maybe they should make another Class -- Melee Primary with Support secondary. -
I'd rather have the current ranges from those powers. The others are too close, and Batman seemed to have pretty good range on his gadgets.
-
I love the Trick Arrow set, but sometimes the bow just does not fit in with my character concept.
I wish we had some alternative delivery system for the effects.
Possible alternative animations:
Deck of cards-- throw a card, the effect applies on impact.
Grenades-- already have the animations for this
Flying disc--already have the animations for this. -
Since people have already mentioned spears, halberds, etc. ...
How about some organic staffs-- like the English quarter staff, Gandolf's first staff from LOTR, or a plain wooden staff with a leather wrapping in the middle. Some staves with Celtic knottwork or other carving or incised designs that glow would be good.
For Titan weapons:
Sword based on ancient Iberian Daggers--Triangular blade with broad base coming to a point.
Or Perhaps a larger version of the Aztec's obsidian bladed sword

Quote:I suppose one can argue semantics all day long but it doesn't give one any greater insight into another person's experience or give validity to their platitudes or confirm their assumptions. And apparently this certain way is to sell stuff you don't need. Don't need those Boresights? Sell 'em. How about that Iron just sitting around? Sell it. Do you need it within the next 2 levels? Probably not. Sell it. You can buy another one later if you really do need one.
Just sell the crap and you'll be rolling in INF.
Why not just sell the rare? Sure, you might get a fraction of the fully Crafted value, but if it's a good one that's still quite a bit of INF. Don't worry about trying to get the salvage to craft it up, just sell it.
Done that before as well. It's boring so I don't do that any more.
Fixed for accuracy. You have all of what you need. What you want is the crux of this argument.
What is normal?
Or spent a minimum of time and still be quite rich.
Same here. I use it when I have to. Meaning, I use it when I'm full of salvage/recipes I don't need. Open, put junk in, sell for 5INF, close, go do stuff I like. Doesn't take long, makes a lot of INF.
I'll say it again. You don't need to play the auction house to get rich. It's downright easy to get rich. Just put the stuff up for sale. You don't need to go into flipping or cornering or any other sort of elaborate feat of financial fortitude to make INF at the auction house.
I think it comes from a disconnect between the two sides. There are those who are fantastically wealthy, the ones who've hit the 2B INF cap multiple times over. Good for them. They help move the markets in directions that benefit me.
Personally, I consider any character with over 10M INF to be "rich enough." It's more than what you need. Anything over that is just luxury. I've got characters with just the basics: SOs with some generic IOs thrown in. And then I've got a couple that are super expensive builds that run closer to 1B than I'd like to think. But those investments in the character weren't needed, they were what I wanted.
The point I'm saying is this: Everyone who has access to the auction house can get more than what they need at it. It's downright easy to do so.
Can everyone get what they want from it? Maybe. But only if they're willing to put in as much effort as it calls for. 'Cause if you're not willing to put in effort for what you want, you must not want it very much.
What I think is reasonable is that when a player gets a rare drop they should be able to make it up for themselves if they wish. And it should not require an unusual amount of effort to collect the materials. Moreover if they want to finish out a set they should be able to do so with a reasonable amount of effort. One can of course argue with the meaning of reasonable.
All I'm saying that a recipe file would help people who are not power players to get there easier, and that would make everybody's life easier. It would be a good and reasonable addition to the game. -
Quote:This is, again, an argument from someone who hasn't walked in other people's shoes.AKA anyone who says you can't make inf by simply playing the game doesn't know what they're talking about. The argument that inf is hard to make has been dis-proven numerous times. It needs to STOP being used as an argument, cause it's never been valid.
The fact of the matter is you have to approach the game in a certain way to make a lot of money. If one does not approach the game that way you won't.
I've been playing for 7 years and Beta, and have rarely had characters with over 20 million. When it happens it's a fluke. Usually a rare drops on me and for some reason I get the components to make it and then I get lucky because somebody buys it.
Sure, I can make 300K 15min after entering Atlas Park buying discards in the auction house, but that's not a lot of inf. And I can make 1 mil by level 12. Again that's not a lot of inf. It's what it takes to get by. But I rarely get above 5 mil inf. just by playing.
And that's not enough to compete in the market place for recipes or enhancements I need to properly equip my characters. The ingrediants alone for most of the Yellows and Orange recipes of lvl 30+ would clean me out, and that's not even the price of the recipe.
Good recipes often run in the hundreds of millions way out of reach of the normal player.
Sure a player can spend a lot of time playing the auction house, but for me, that's not the point of the game. I use the auction house when I have to but mostly I want to do missions. And because I don't 'play' the auction house, and I can't afford the cost of the spendy ingrediants I'd like something to put my recipes in, when I do get a decent drop that I want to make up, until I can collect enough moola to make them.
Simply saying that because one or some people can make tons of influence at this game and therefore everybody should be able to make tons of money at this game is insensitive because it's simply not true. Some---and I would venture to say most---do not operate on the level of power players. -
It's not about hoarding. It's about not having enough money to make up good recipes that drop on you.
And yes, some people are more financially challenged than others.
A file cabinet that allowed each SG character to store 15-30 recipes each like the personal vault would be a welcomed addition. That's not going to result in hording. It's going to result in a greater market flow since you can clear the recipes that you really want to keep out of your character's personal recipe file until you can afford to make them, and then keep selling the others. Otherwise your carry inventory gets filled up with stuff you're trying to keep and you can't collect and sell enough to make them up. If you're full all the time you can't get additional drops... which means you're stuck. -
Quote:Wrong Strangeglove...sorry.Wait. The late Boston Red Sox infielder Dick "Dr. Strangeglove" Stuart (also known as "Stonefingers", "The Man with the Iron Glove", and "The Boston Strangler" for his... unique... defensive gifts) is still alive and a genius scientist in the City of Heroes universe?
Weird, man. -
For those who don't get it....
This is a suggestion for a possible story arc.
Ad Astra is Latin for 'To the Stars' from Virgil's poem Aeneid where Apollo says to Aeneas' son Iulus, ""sic itur ad astra" ("thus you shall go to the stars")
and also from Senneca The Younger's Poem: "Hercules Furens" where Hercules' wife Magara says "non est ad astra mollis e terris via" ("there is no easy way from the earth to the stars"). -
And then after defeating the mighty Shivan Asteroid gun pointed at Paragon City and more specifically at Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie factory (a secret base for Omega 12), and Gold's Deli (the one with the best Bagels and Lox on the East Coast)....the team again, like true heroes, steps into the breach to save the world for truth, justice, democracy, and chocolate chip cookies, not to speak of a good Kosher deli...
Part 6
Deep beneath the Surface of the Moon, the Shivans continue their nefarious plan. As it turns out the Giant Shivan Boss and his goons have an entire workforce of Igneous constructing a Star Gate to connect their moon base to their outpost in the Asteroid Belt. The invasion of Galaxy City was just a prelude to a bigger invasion. However the team can save the world from this one if they can destroy the gate in time.
Part 7
Having destroyed the Shivan gate, prevented the reinforcements from arriving at the moon base and freeing the enslaved Igneous...
The team discovers the igneous can communicate with them using an ancient Egyptian artifact. It seems that the igneous were the dedicated servants of the Osirians, a group of beings who were worshiped by the Egyptians and Igneous as gods. This group left earth for the stars ages ago, but left colonies of igneous on earth. Apparently the Igneous were originally from the Moon when it still had an atmosphere. A cataclysm stripped the moon of it's air, but not before the Osirian's built a huge underground complex in which the igneous took refuge. There are parts of the complex where the igneous don't go because it's protected by the Osirian security system.
Inside the complex the team finds a hanger with a Horus class space ship. The space ship is currently non-functional, but parts to fix it may be found in the forbidden zone.
To get into the forbidden zone the team will have to pass through a series of trials.
The trial of Anubis--the house of silence. Players must walk across a large hall with stone Anubis statues without saying anything while following a specific path. Failure to do so will activate the giant Anubis Statues who will swarm the party (very nasty)
The trial of Horus--the party must work their way through a gauntlet of flying fire projectiles. Timing is the key.
The trial of Isis--one of the party must drink a vial of poison (DOT) and then the others must mix a series of ingredients together in the right order to make a cure. Failure to do so before the poison kills the party member & fails the trial.
The trial of Ra--players come to a black river which they can't fly or jump over. On the player's side is a boat with limited occupancy. (fox, chicken, feed boat riddle with other objects)
The trial of Thoth--visual puzzle
Having successfully passed the Osirian trials the party enters a large cavern full of Egyptian architecture: sphinx's, obelisks, pylons, hypostyle halls, with a big pyramid in the center. The party must fight their way past the priests of Amun (humanoids with ram's heads) whose staff's shoot energy blasts, and can be used as melee weapons. The parts for the space ship are stored in various temples, and the main 'motivator' is located in the heart of the pyramid.
Seated on the throne in the heart of the pyramid sits the throne of Osiris on it is a hologram of the god holding a balance scale with the feather of Maat. He will ask the party three questions. Good answers will drop a token of light onto the scale, bad answers will drop a token of dark onto the scale. If Osiris is unsatisfied with the answers the hologram will disappear and a boss monster will be released.
Part 8
Having solved the riddles of the Osirians and repairing the Horus space craft, the team flies to the Shivan base in the asteroid field and takes it out. They then return to earth. Omega 12 appropriates the Horus ship and the president awards the team a special commendation (badges). -
Possible Story Arc
Part 1
The Nuclear Physicist Dr. Strangeglove has developed a brand new rocket fuel capable of powering a new type of engine and propelling space craft to the far reaches of the solar system in record time.
Unfortunately his niece Ffriga Westinghouse been kidnapped by the Bhans Mydolhoff gang... a group of renegade 5th column, who are making a power play for control of the 5th column and Council forces on Striga Island.
Attempts to rescue Dr. Strangeglove's niece are at first unsuccessful but information is uncovered concerning a recient advance in jet pack development using which would use the Dr's formula.
An exchange is arranged for the girl and while the girl is recovered Dr. Strangeglove is captured and swiftly spirited away.
Part 2
You are contacted by the secret government agency, Omega 12, who has learned of a council agent, Adolf Fritter who just might have information regarding the location of the Bhans Mydolhoff base. He's also a mad scientist who maintains a lawyer (Chris Jenkins) on a retainer, so it's unlikely that you'll be able to intimidate him without getting sued. Instead you need to bug the office. Unfortunately you'll have to go in at night and the security guards are armed with stunners. Anyone caught will be tazzed and dumped into the sewers with some of Fritters failed experiments. You need to plant 10 bugs. If you get caught all the bugs will be removed and you'll have to try again, this time with more guards who are on a higher allert. Inspecting file cabinets will alert players to the planned invasion of Striga by the Bhans faction.
Part 3
An alert is raised on Striga by Stephanie Peebles. A fleet of 5th column Airships has entered Striga air space and has begun launching rocket gliders and elite storm troopers equiped with jet packs. They are supported by three submarines.
Part of the team must storm one of the three submarines and take over the control room --having done that they can then sink the other two subs. (requires at least 2 players--1 to target the other submarines using the periscope, and one to push the launch panel for the torpedoes.
The Other part of the team must fight it's way through the waves of gliders and storm troopers and plant time bombs aboard the Air Ships. (Sort of a reverse Admiral Sutter). Players receive a time-bomb temporary power--players with traps or devices can use their time-bomb power to set bombs instead or as well.
This is a timed mission so all the bombs must be planted and the Airships and Submarines must be destroyed within the time or the mission's a failure.
Players still aboard the airships when they go up will be knocked unconscious and transported to the secret Bhan Mydolhoff base prison with minimal health and stamina.
If the team fails the mission they will end up in the prison section of the secret base.
Part 4
The Surviving team of the Striga battle will take the submarine to the hidden base. From there they must fight their way through the base to the labs where they will find Dr. Strangeglove and rescue him. They will also find that this faction has a rocket in their secret base: one remaining Vo5 rocket standing on the launch bay ready to go to their moon base.
The communications center will have an emergency message asking for help with an invasion of their moon base by monsters.
Part 5
The team may choose to go to the 5th column moon-base. (cut scene for the space flight)
Landing on the moon and entering the moon-base the team finds it overrun with Shivans and Igneous who are in the process of constructing an asteroid gun. -
Ice Storm and Blizzard are best used by a Storm/Ice Defender or Corrupter. (You can also substitute Dark for Storm---tar patch for freezing rain) This is the one defender that can compete with blasters for raw AOE damage.
Freezing Rain -> Aim -> Ice Storm -> Blizzard = Everything Dead including bosses.
With a blaster I usually go: Aim -> Build-up -> Ice Storm -> Frost Breath = most of a group dead. Rest can be finished off with a shot or two from single blasts. Hitting Ice Storm then Blizzard in the chain will also kill off huge groups--just keep a blue around for that drop at the end. Putting a Slow in as well as damage helps keep them from running around as much. Using Power Boost helps with that as well if you have an energy secondary.
Use Stealth to get into position before the rest of your team gets there. Those special Stealth Procs in sprint or hover will give you the equivalent of invisibility.
If you have a tank or controller, that can work for you and hold a group in place . -
Hmm,
Not going to buy a useless dog pet when I don't use the current useless pets I have.
The only reason to buy a dog pet is if it actually does something.
1. Attacks bad guys on command.
2. Fears bad guys by barking at them.
3. Jumps on target and knocks them down.
4. Takes a leak on target's leg on command.
5. I can throw a ball/frisbee/cat and it retrieves it.
6. It can pull my fallen body out of agro range when I get taken down. (Hey Rin Tin Tin could)
7. Barks at hidden/stealthed enemies and makes them reveal.
Nice 4 leg rig though. Seriously this is like releasing a single passenger car with a top speed of 10 mph when what the customer is looking for is at least a mini-van which will go 65-75 mph and carry a soccer team. -
There's nothing in trick arrow that couldn't be represented by a thrown weapon.
Web grenade
Glue grenade
Poison Gas grenade
Acid grenade
Flash grenade
Sonic grenade
Cryo-grenade
Bottle of Oil
EMP grenade
They've already made the animations for grenades. It would go with any weapon set. No need to remake one for pistols, AR, Beam Rifle, etc. -
Congratulations Paragon Studios--you've reinvented the Edsel.
-
LOL--very clever
However--400 pts?!?!
Where's the Axe of Undead Slaying?
If you got a permanent of each: a holy shotgun, a cricket bat, and a "chainsaw" of undead slaying it might be worth 400 pts. -
After the fact... sorry...
I'm having a lot of fun right now with AR/Fire.
Build Up + Flame Thrower + Ingnite + Combustion + Fire Sword Circle + Burn Patch + Hot Feet = a grotesque amount of dead bodies. Make sure you have a tank along to herd them into positon, or a controler to lock down into a nice group. Works very nice on ITF.
Also have a lot of fun with my Ice/Fire.
Build up + Ice Storm + Frost Breath + Combustion + Fire Sword Circle + Burn Patch + Hot Feet... Over kill. -
Loved it. My wife loved it too.
We wish there was more.
Kudo's guys...and also on the Haunted House.
Keep up the good work. -
Start with one power-- fire, ice, energy, or electricity.
Devolop animations for it using a wand.
Next a staff.
Next using a pistol.
Next using carbine.
once you have the basic animations down for one set you should be able to just do the partical effects for the remaining powers. A lot of the animations are already done for carbine and pistol, it's just a matter of translating them over to character models. -
Powers using a source like a gun or wand would be a nice addition to any of the blasting powers: Fire, Electricity, Energy, Radiation, Dark, Cold.
-
Agreed, needs an update. Should scale for the size of the group.
-
Yes, said this a while back.
Receivers and ear pieces belong with ears. Head Wings should not be in ears.
glasses/goggles should have their own seperate catagory. -
Quote:Not your problem...you're not exactly helpful anyway.So... and please correct me if I'm wrong... you misunderstood something the Devs said, and now you're unhappy that they're not fulfilling your misunderstanding, yes?
Not really sure how to help you with that.
And to correct you... if you go to a car salesman and he says something that sounds like it's too good to be true, it usually is. It's your fault if you buy it because you should know better. So I suppose the moral there is one should always distrust anybody trying to sell you something.
That doesn't mean you can't be unhappy about their misleading sales pitch. Does it? So when Paragon Studios says your benefits from your subscription won't essentially change and you'll get more... and that's not the case...because you're actually getting less...that's the fault of the people who are unhappy about it because it's not as good as marketing said it was going to be.
Of course the change in service and business model was unilateral. I didn't have anything to say about it... so what do I have to complain about? Right?
