Possible Story Arc

Part 1

The Nuclear Physicist Dr. Strangeglove has developed a brand new rocket fuel capable of powering a new type of engine and propelling space craft to the far reaches of the solar system in record time.

Unfortunately his niece Ffriga Westinghouse been kidnapped by the Bhans Mydolhoff gang... a group of renegade 5th column, who are making a power play for control of the 5th column and Council forces on Striga Island.

Attempts to rescue Dr. Strangeglove's niece are at first unsuccessful but information is uncovered concerning a recient advance in jet pack development using which would use the Dr's formula.

An exchange is arranged for the girl and while the girl is recovered Dr. Strangeglove is captured and swiftly spirited away.

Part 2

You are contacted by the secret government agency, Omega 12, who has learned of a council agent, Adolf Fritter who just might have information regarding the location of the Bhans Mydolhoff base. He's also a mad scientist who maintains a lawyer (Chris Jenkins) on a retainer, so it's unlikely that you'll be able to intimidate him without getting sued. Instead you need to bug the office. Unfortunately you'll have to go in at night and the security guards are armed with stunners. Anyone caught will be tazzed and dumped into the sewers with some of Fritters failed experiments. You need to plant 10 bugs. If you get caught all the bugs will be removed and you'll have to try again, this time with more guards who are on a higher allert. Inspecting file cabinets will alert players to the planned invasion of Striga by the Bhans faction.

Part 3

An alert is raised on Striga by Stephanie Peebles. A fleet of 5th column Airships has entered Striga air space and has begun launching rocket gliders and elite storm troopers equiped with jet packs. They are supported by three submarines.

Part of the team must storm one of the three submarines and take over the control room --having done that they can then sink the other two subs. (requires at least 2 players--1 to target the other submarines using the periscope, and one to push the launch panel for the torpedoes.

The Other part of the team must fight it's way through the waves of gliders and storm troopers and plant time bombs aboard the Air Ships. (Sort of a reverse Admiral Sutter). Players receive a time-bomb temporary power--players with traps or devices can use their time-bomb power to set bombs instead or as well.

This is a timed mission so all the bombs must be planted and the Airships and Submarines must be destroyed within the time or the mission's a failure.

Players still aboard the airships when they go up will be knocked unconscious and transported to the secret Bhan Mydolhoff base prison with minimal health and stamina.

If the team fails the mission they will end up in the prison section of the secret base.

Part 4

The Surviving team of the Striga battle will take the submarine to the hidden base. From there they must fight their way through the base to the labs where they will find Dr. Strangeglove and rescue him. They will also find that this faction has a rocket in their secret base: one remaining Vo5 rocket standing on the launch bay ready to go to their moon base.
The communications center will have an emergency message asking for help with an invasion of their moon base by monsters.

Part 5

The team may choose to go to the 5th column moon-base. (cut scene for the space flight)
Landing on the moon and entering the moon-base the team finds it overrun with Shivans and Igneous who are in the process of constructing an asteroid gun.

Wait. The late Boston Red Sox infielder Dick "Dr. Strangeglove" Stuart (also known as "Stonefingers", "The Man with the Iron Glove", and "The Boston Strangler" for his... unique... defensive gifts) is still alive and a genius scientist in the City of Heroes universe?

Weird, man.

What is this, I don't even

Is this supposed to be a suggestion for some new arc or something?
A pretext for finally sending us to the moon?

Part 6

Deep beneath the Surface of the Moon, the Shivans continue their nefarious plan. As it turns out the Giant Shivan Boss and his goons have an entire workforce of Igneous constructing a Star Gate to connect their moon base to their outpost in the Asteroid Belt. The invasion of Galaxy City was just a prelude to a bigger invasion. However the team can save the world from this one if they can destroy the gate in time.

Part 7

Having destroyed the Shivan gate, prevented the reinforcements from arriving at the moon base and freeing the enslaved Igneous...

The team discovers the igneous can communicate with them using an ancient Egyptian artifact. It seems that the igneous were the dedicated servants of the Osirians, a group of beings who were worshiped by the Egyptians and Igneous as gods. This group left earth for the stars ages ago, but left colonies of igneous on earth. Apparently the Igneous were originally from the Moon when it still had an atmosphere. A cataclysm stripped the moon of it's air, but not before the Osirian's built a huge underground complex in which the igneous took refuge. There are parts of the complex where the igneous don't go because it's protected by the Osirian security system.

Inside the complex the team finds a hanger with a Horus class space ship. The space ship is currently non-functional, but parts to fix it may be found in the forbidden zone.

To get into the forbidden zone the team will have to pass through a series of trials.

The trial of Anubis--the house of silence. Players must walk across a large hall with stone Anubis statues without saying anything while following a specific path. Failure to do so will activate the giant Anubis Statues who will swarm the party (very nasty)

The trial of Horus--the party must work their way through a gauntlet of flying fire projectiles. Timing is the key.

The trial of Isis--one of the party must drink a vial of poison (DOT) and then the others must mix a series of ingredients together in the right order to make a cure. Failure to do so before the poison kills the party member & fails the trial.

The trial of Ra--players come to a black river which they can't fly or jump over. On the player's side is a boat with limited occupancy. (fox, chicken, feed boat riddle with other objects)

The trial of Thoth--visual puzzle

Having successfully passed the Osirian trials the party enters a large cavern full of Egyptian architecture: sphinx's, obelisks, pylons, hypostyle halls, with a big pyramid in the center. The party must fight their way past the priests of Amun (humanoids with ram's heads) whose staff's shoot energy blasts, and can be used as melee weapons. The parts for the space ship are stored in various temples, and the main 'motivator' is located in the heart of the pyramid.

Seated on the throne in the heart of the pyramid sits the throne of Osiris on it is a hologram of the god holding a balance scale with the feather of Maat. He will ask the party three questions. Good answers will drop a token of light onto the scale, bad answers will drop a token of dark onto the scale. If Osiris is unsatisfied with the answers the hologram will disappear and a boss monster will be released.

Part 8

Having solved the riddles of the Osirians and repairing the Horus space craft, the team flies to the Shivan base in the asteroid field and takes it out. They then return to earth. Omega 12 appropriates the Horus ship and the president awards the team a special commendation (badges).

For those who don't get it....

This is a suggestion for a possible story arc.

Ad Astra is Latin for 'To the Stars' from Virgil's poem Aeneid where Apollo says to Aeneas' son Iulus, ""sic itur ad astra" ("thus you shall go to the stars")

and also from Senneca The Younger's Poem: "Hercules Furens" where Hercules' wife Magara says "non est ad astra mollis e terris via" ("there is no easy way from the earth to the stars").

Wrong Strangeglove...sorry.
