Are OCR (and Marketing) missing the marks?

There is a cycle to most dev posts. They post the most right before and right after an issue is released. Evidently, that is when they have the most free time since they are not in the middle of creating new content and polishing it it up.

In the last ten days or so we have had a flurry of new posts from Castle, Noble Savage, Dr. Aeon, and even War Witch. Yesterday we got some interesting info about I19 and several weeks ago the Pax panel said that they were going to have a super secret I20 beta.

Who knows how long either of those issues has been in beta and how much interaction there has been in game and on the forums between players and devs?

But based on the announcement and the recent increase in posting, I'm guessing they hit a major milestone in their production calendar and had some free time.

All of those threads kicked off before GR launched.

Manticore and the Television have disappeared into the ether apparently.

And as I said previously no senior Dev has made any meaningful post regarding the game since GR launched.

Why do you suppose that is?
I19 aproaching release and i20 is in beta bet their kinda busy.

Are they suposed to have a q&a every month or something? Cause originally you just said they should do a q&a when I showed you they did well that's not good enough now cause it was 2 months ago. (Btw I would hardly say a few months is obsolete)

Thats all well and good but we aren't talking about the busy as ever Dev's. I'd prefer it if they didn't post when under deadlines and all.

We're talking about Our Community Representatives, the 'too busy with other things' excuse won't fly here because communicating with us is the main part of their jobs...

We're all Vets here, the majority of which aren't trolls, have been ardent supporters of the game for years and are only concerned with it's future.
A future that (for the 1st time) doesn't seem so rosy.

I've avoided other MMO's for all these years because I felt confident that NC was giving it's full backing to our IP.
I didn't even glance at CO thanks in part to the feedback I read here and the numerous posts from OCR letting us know the future was all laid out.

Now we've reached that 'Future' and we're looking to make sure that the company support will still be around in 6 months.
All we get is silence though. Which might not mean anything.
Or it could mean the support is being transitioned to a new endeavor.

Very ninja like indeed.
Still I would've preferred if he'd made it easier to tell it wasn't coming from me.
Or better yet actually make a post so most readers don't miss it entirely.

Still, good point Mod08.

And now they can't even use the "New superhero MMO to be released SOON" as an excuse to close down community interaction because it's not being released SOON anymore

There are now no excuses for this kind of behavior. No more ninja edits. Start talking again

It is quite strange now that the other Superhero MMO has been delayed we've suddenly seen a rather large upswing in communication...

Hmmm...

Actually it was pretty poor form. I had to read it several times to realise it was actually a Moderator editing a users post to make a point. He should have replied and quoted directly in his own post to be clear.

It's not even an especially valid point either. Maybe that's why he buried it

Wait? Are you saying since we haven't seen DC** and CoX in the same room that...? Really? You think they might be? I mean it is strange but maybe it's just a coincidence. But if you take the glasses off... hrm. You might have something there.

it's a funny thing, but putting out a major expansion has a way of soaking up leisure time.

it is an absolutely valid point and one I raised earlier in one of these discussions- there is no value in answering the question "when did you stop beating your wife?" Ignoring it is the only rational response.

Rumors are one thing. We had our fill of rumor-mongering when Jack Emmert would drop hints about Avilains and such - things that ended up being purely conceptual with little to no development (except perhaps wing tech). Certainly, we don't need that sort of thing happening again, because it builds in some players unreal expectations of what really ends up coming down the pipe later.

However, certain player concerns should justify a red name response. Even if a unified front needs to be observed, there would be nothing wrong in responding to a discussion thread about a contested feature or pack with "Nothing will change, but we've definitely noted your feedback for future consideration." Certainly, to most players, that would be a better response than no response at all.

The main point of my OP, in retrospect, is that players on the forums don't like stonewall responses to valid questions and concerns.

OTOH:

There are certainly plenty of loaded questions on the forums too, such as the example above. IMPO, one I see all the time is "When are you going to fix PvP?" which would imply that PvP is broken. Certainly, the devs may not feel that PvP is broken at all, and responding to such a question would infer that the devs were admitting that PvP is broken.

On the flip side, a valid thread about problems with the current PvP system, along with constructive criticism and suggestions for solutions, should merit a red name response. The same thing could be said about the Base system. However, it's been some time since such threads had any red name feedback or responses. Even if such things are being worked on and cannot be completely discussed, a response such as "these issues are being considered for future address" would be OK.

There again, some players might think that the red names are simply stringing them along, especially if "problems" go "unfixed" for years on end, so in the end, it depends entirely on the context and the history of the subject. However, I'd rather not go off onto a tangent about either PvP or Bases.

He simply wanted to keep it not only off of the Community Digest, but also an searches for all posts by Moderator8 or TheOcho. And although I appreciate the response, I do sort of wish I could have received a legitimate reply instead.

That being said, there is a marked increase in OCR activity, due to holiday announcements and the I19 feature page going up. There's even been some more idle chit chat and, amazingly, replies to posts. I'll be cautiously hoping that the red names can make my OP eat crow.

Sorry Riff, gotta disagree, Avatea has been a star for us recently and is always friendly when I contact her.

Bear in mind, she's doing the same job as Ghost Raptor, Kerensky and the French moderator who's name I've forgotted all at the same time!

Only if that's the only question ever asked and we all know that's not the case.

The other team has put out major expansions while still providing regular feedback and communication to the playerbase. I'm not saying they're better, I'm just saying they are providing more communication.

I also don't expect OCR to communicate with the playerbase during their leisure time, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

He's an interesting way of quantifying which OCR posted more: count them. Extra points if you correlate posts to time employed. (For example Cuppa may have a greater total number of posts but less posts per month employed than Ocho).

I would do it, but aside from being lazy I am not adept at programming and this would lend itself to a parser.

With that, we wouldn't have to go on feelings or memories. We would have empirical data.

the vast majority of junk I've seen floating around recently wouldn't be productive to answer so I don't fault them for ignoring it.

we've gotten answers & clarifications on an assortment of productive topics over the last while.

From where I'm sitting all the wailing and rending of garments is a massive overreaction to a fairly minor change in how rednames interact with the community.

I thought Avatea was the French moderator (only moved now to the US).
