Yeah it feels too simplistic for me, like wise for Blasters but in a pseudo reverse kind of way, where you just run and stand there trying to piss everybody off so your team can be the mobile ones. Where as ranged classes or MMs, you're in the back lines just chewing hit points from the mobs at a distance. I fell in love with stalkers because they took the metagame of a scrapper and kind of made it more... intuitive in a sense. Because you can't tank as well as a scrapper and it requires positioning (<3 Placates).

To me part of the thing about Tanks is, who in comics represents a tank?

The Blob?

Unus the Untouchable?

...?

When I rolled my first tank, I was thinking Incredible Hulk, or Superman, and I think that's probably what a lot of people expect. There are very few "invulnerable" characters in comics that can't also punch you halfway to the moon, so when people with the wrong impression see how "weak" Tanks' attacks are, they just get frustrated and/or disappointed.

Hero ATs in general - but that's mostly because for the past 4 or 5 years I've been a dedicated villain player and, while I love seeing my villains in Paragon City now Going Rogue has been released, I hated the Paragon City story content. That said I've got one 50 Scrapper, a character who outdates CoV, and I've just rediscovered a love for Blasters.

But, during my time as a villain-only player pre-GR, the only AT I found I just couldn't play was a Dominator. I know they can be extremely powerful in later levels and I appreciate they're an extremely versatile and useful AT; I just can't play one.

There are some archetypes that I have trouble playing.

I once got a Mastermind to about level 35, on the release of CoV, but hit a wall and couldn't get any further. Since then, I've not got a Mastermind past about level 14. I just don't think the playstyle is what I enjoy.

Blasters generally also escape me. I don't know why, it's just something I don't seem to be able to get behind. My highest blaster was a Fire/Psi character, and was a beast for AoE damage, but I think the random nature of the progression through missions put me off. I either wiped out a mob in three seconds flat, or died in a heap in three seconds flat. No in-between.

I don't particularly like Kheldians either, especially since finding out that I couldn't make a viable build for a Warshade that centred around the control powers. But I love the story for that Warshade, so I'm keeping her around. At the very least for RP purposes.

On the point of Dominators... Electricity Control opened the Archetype up to me. I now have an endurance-draining scrapper that can throw holds at people. That's pretty awesome.

The Elysienne; Magical controller
Silent Sickle; Natural scrapper
And many more.

Tankers. The one thing that I've never gotten beyond 20.

And defenders. Never made it beyond 30.

And in third place for inability to play: Stalkers.
I had a level 20-something ma/sr stalker and encountered a mission full of spectral spirits.
I'm still not fully recovered.

Tanks, for the most part. Exception: My namesake, but being Fire/Fire, he's more scrapper-ish anyway.

Controllers.

Kheldians.

Defenders, for the most part.

You're lucky. Rikti Drones drive all my stalker toons nuts. Either you can't hit them or when you do it doesn't get the job done. Though *** help mostly but if you're fighting a yellow orange rikti drone solo... good luck wont help you. That and they see through your hide.

Spectral spirits can be nasty as well due to their PBAoEs, I really hate that. Going in for the kill only to get hit by 5 damage which not only bumps you out of hide but interrupted your AS making you vulnerble in the event you used a placate to get out of harms way. Though from my experience once you get your tier 9, things change a bit in terms of resistance to death, your survival can really sky rocket once you practice your build enough. I had people flipping out when I tanked the Rikti AV in one of those story arch missions in RWZ as a DB/SR... holly crap was I pressing buttons or what xD It was consistently weaken - dot -weaken - weaken - dot - Elude -weaken - Dot... on and on while I waited for the team to get back from hospitals.

Agreed for the Kheldians, they just never appealed to me. I think I got mine high enough for the ultra-craw-dad but pretty much stopped.

Defenders and Controllers for me suffer the same problem. They're all primarily support on teams, which is fine, but your more so watching your team's back than anything else (in the sense that if people start getting beat you're either rolling out the heals or holding hordes of mobs).

I wish that there was an AT I couldn't play. Then maybe I would have less alts and more than one 50 I just figured out how to rock the only AT I had trouble with (MM's) and I added 3 more alts >.<

Tanks. They used to be my ALL TIME favorite AT, but for some reason, every time I try to make one nowadays I just... stop. It's weird.

Lately, I've been finding myself unable to play Controllers. If I wanted control I'd play a Dominator, if I wanted buffs I'd play a Defender, if I wanted pets I'd play a Mastermind.

It just doesn't work for me.

Khelds I just can't get into, though I have one of each. And Blasters, just too damned squishy without enough mitigation.

Give me a Tank/Brute/Scrapper/or even Stalker for defense. And Controllers/Corruptors/Dominators for a mix of damage/mitigation. VEATs for damage/defense.

Or better yet... Defenders! Win!

Masterminds are kind of an "other". I don't play them much but like them a heck of a lot better than Khelds and Blasters.

((Kheldians are too ugly to play, even though their powersets are awesome. If you didn't have to go squiddy or lobster to get their really good powers, then maybe... Plus, I just don't like having the devs define who my characters are. It kinda defeats the purpose of rolling my own characters. I've tried rp'ing Kheldian as something else, but it just doesn't work out. The devs said, "Here's what a Kheldian is," and if you don't play them as that, it just confuses people.

Controllers. I don't have the patience to level them up to the point where they are super-uber-awesome -- which they are.))

Speaking of all the kheldian hate...

I find human form peacebringers awesome simply because they're like a scrapper with ranged attacks. A squishy scrapper yes, but a scrapper nontheless. And their knockbacks aren't as bad as people try to make out.

As for warshades...Bleh.

I can't seem to play corruptors and dominators, which is odd because I enjoy defenders and controllers a lot. Just something about those two ATs.

Support classes. Defenders, Controllers ecetera. That, and Masterminds.

I can tank like a monster, and I'm one of the few blaster-players around without a lemming complex. However, support classes (or generally classes with a hefty amount of micro-management) really tend to vex me.

My wife? She can play a Defender or a Controller and leave me agog with how she manages a full team of people being dog-piled by angry Council grunts.

I'm simple, I like to hit things.

My all time, hands down favorite is Stalker. Solo or team, I love getting that initial AS off, then scrapping with the rest of the mob, placating as necessary.

I generally enjoy all the ATs. But as someone said earlier, for me, its finding the right combination of powersets really, and not the AT itself that I have problems with.

Case in point: Masterminds. I love the concept of them. It slightly reminds me of my days as a Master Creature Handler in SWG (Intrepid server). So when CoV came out, I clung to the idea of making an MM! ...I hated that AT for over a year, after that initial try. It wasn't until just a few months ago, I forced myself to play to level 12 with every MM primary and secondary. It took a little over a week, but I finally found the combination that made me go "Weee!": Necro/Poison. I love it. I have fun with it. I got the MM to 43rd in less than 2 weeks.

So yeah, really it's the powers that determine if I like an AT or not.

Used to be Masterminds, probably because I've only ever played the Ranged sets. The irritating thing is, you can tell them to stay, but the second they go into combat, it's like someone loaded your battle bots and one protector drone with Wndows ME because two of them, sometimes three, will fire off one blast, then RACE off into melee despite you screaming at them to stop, heel, sit, roll over, play dead... Er, no, wait, they usually play dead just fine, after charging headlong into Silver Mantis' aura

I find Sandolphan's Revised MM Numpad Pet Controls freaking fantastic. It takes a little getting used to, but as many MMs as I've tried (over a dozen, accounting for different primary/secondary combinations) after awhile it literally just becomes second natre.

Anyway, I'm loving my Ninjas/Thermal MM. She's got a great theme (IMO), and when I tell the ninjas to get their butts into melee, they don't kick once, then sprint back halfway across the map to stand there throwing shurikens, so that's all a moot point now.

Probably the one non-epic AT I can't get into at all is Stalkers. Ironically I'm playing a Night Stalker assassin in an ongoing D&D campaign, but in CoH I just can't get into Stalkers, not for lack of trying.

Heroside there are some powersets I don't enjoy, but not in the sense of locking me out from playing the entire AT, with the sole exception of Kheldians.

Khelds I find interesting lore-wise, but I just don't find them fun.

See, that's what I'm talking about I tried every secondary and nothing 'clicked' until I hit upon my Nin/Thermal, who was almost a Nin/Storm, but I got tired of spamming O2 For me at least, this was precisely the trouble, just finding a combination that excited and interested me ... Also, flaming ninjas are freaking hilarious to watch when they're sprinting into combat. They're like gigantic fire imps with better AI

The Khelds.

I also find it a bit of a drag to play controllers and dominators if I have to play them solo but otherwise I like them alot when I team.

I couldn't play a mastermind if my life depended on it. And I just don't enjoy khelds.

Just got thru reading this thread I have some classes that I have not got into yet but there is still time.I find that with most classes it is just a matter of learning the best way to play them,as you can see from my sig. I have 50,s over a few classes,I got my second MM to 50 last night took me 54 months as it was the first villian I made.Altho tanks do not do as much damage as a scrapper or blaster I can solo missons with it with ease, yes blasters are a bit squishy but solo missons with care and you can survive in teams just stay back and try to target thru the tank if you have one.Defenders I find hard as at lower lvl,s they suck at soloing after lvl 32 when you get you pet live is a lot better.I am only just getting into villians again so cannot comment on the classes that side but when I sort out the way to play them I,m sure I will be addind to my lvl 50,s red side, have fun all and persevere with those troublesome classes.

Prof Radburn controller,Celtic Ice Maiden, blaster,Miss Knockout scrapper,Mistress Davina controller,Stone Hart, tank Split Personality PB.Queen Lostris controller,Fridgid Mary blaster,Shocking Fire blaster Future Elfling defender, Little Weed controller,Capo Angelo MM, Commander Buzzsaw MM, Justice Tank tank all 50,s

Seriously. My Inv/EM tanker once tanked 3 Eochai and about 20 little pumpkin men during the first halloween event. How can I ever go back to tankers in their current state after that?
((My sentiments exactly. Tanks used to make you feel super. Now they just make you feel... unnecessary.))

I had to think about it, since I have made alts of each type, in the end its just two roles, not classes I have difficulty with, Tanking, and Healing, conversely I love De-buffs and buffs, control, pets, range and Melee roles, I just don't like having everyone's life in my hands.

Not a fan of stalkers. I'm more of an up front kind of person.

Don't like Controllers or Dominators, either. Don't mind my Illusion too much, but then, I mostly just sic pets in that situation and then focus on my secondary.

Too many blasted alts to list, but all on Virtue.

I cannot bring myself to actually play a controller or defender, guess ive been playing damage classes for too long to do anything else XD

Haaaate masterminds! Hate everything about them, second would be controllers, mostly because I hate not being able to use my tier 9 power due to my aversion to pets. I'm also jealous they have access to whips and beautifully simply dual pistol animation.

Have been debating a human form only kheld for a long time, though you're always a squid at heart and I have no interest in that concept at all.
