I've been the main "tanker" for every single redside SF and villain group set for 8 man teams (aside from Apex and Tin Mage which I have yet to try) on my FA brute with ease. I will admit to frantically searching my power trays during a LRSF or two saying to myself "...now where did I put Rise of the Phoenix" but that's a very rare circumstance where I probably had no team support whatsoever.

Aside from a nightmarish mish I ran filled with nothing but Praetorian Seers (i'm going back for revenge btw), there is nothing in this game you could not solo at +1/x8.

    Brute vs Tank

Both are actually pretty important and easy enough to get good numbers in both recharge and defense. If you can afford the Kinetic Combats nowadays you can softcap to S/L very easily. My Fire/Fire brute actually just added Hasten to his build after years of farming at 50 and I have noticed a big difference in both damage output and survivability, and he has sucky recharge numbers too, I think only 105% with Hasten.

Personally, if I had to choose between the two I'd go with +defense. He's a little squishier than I like and his damage numbers are off the freaking chart already. If I had my druthers I wish my Inv/SS tank was a brute because he's tougher than he needs to be and I'd like a little more damage out of him, whereas I wish my Fire/Fire brute were a tank because I'd like him a smidge tougher and I'd be willing to trade in a percentage of the ridiculous damage he puts out.

And again, even with my recharge numbers, your talking about hitting Rage and Fiery Embrace before jumping in that mob, then Burn then Foot Stomp then... well then nothing, because there's only a boss standing in front of you by that point, chuck out a single target attack or two and then on to the next mob. If you're fighting +4 mobs they may be slightly tougher and you'll need to drop Burn again which is not a problem because it recharges retardedly fast and is up and waiting for you.

Either way, good times are ahead of you my friend, enjoy! )

Well a bunch of things actually that all add up to a generally higher degree of survivability; more base HP, and better resist numbers but on FA they're still not that great, or at least game changing. Healing Flames job is to cover your behind where your resistances lack but FA's true defensive strength is in its offense and assiting you in stopping your foes from dishing out the damage in the first place.

My INV/SS tank jumps into a mob of purples, I put foot stomp on autofire and go make a sandwich. Eventually they all die. My FM/FA brute jumps into a mob of purples he dies if I stop to blow my nose for a minute BUT if I'm attentive and attacking I've cleared that mob in seconds.

    Brute vs Tank

FA is plenty tough enough to handle +2/x8 mobs if properly built. I have a fire/fire brute who rounds up two or three mobs at a time w/bosses included at that level with ease. There are certain enemy groups that cause me headaches, especially while running at +4/x8, forces me to adjust my pace and there's alot of clicking involved in staying alive, but in honesty these are the same mobs who cause my lvl50 inv/ss problems as well... just more clicking on the brute. He's softcapped to s/l, and outside a few exotic damage types or debuffs, healing flames handles everything else.

A tank will give you a slight edge in survivability which will help with FA, and if you are not deadset on being a walking chainsaw the damage you will be able to put out with a FA/SS tank will more than suffice.

    My First Dom...

I'll have 75% recharge easy and hasten. I can work another two 6.25% recharge bonusses in there with minimal sacrifice, but 100% may take some hard rejuggling. Hmmm...

I was wondering more whether I should take Black Scorpion as a patron for the shield and build up some S/L defense as well. I'm 42 right now, don't know how bad *** you can make a dom at 50. Lovin' it so far!

    My First Dom...

... and leveling fast thanks to a double xp weekend. He's grav/nrg, if I had to pick one defense type to build for is it ranged or s/l?

    Thanks,

  7. Went with Musculature. I already have 150% recharge with hasten, thought all Spiritual would do is help bring back full auto a little faster, not really worth spending your whole alpha slot on.

For those that are still debating, the damage is noticable even if you are for the most part ED capped, and I hear the ultra rares in all trees will have non-ED affected bonusses which makes Musculature even more appealing!

So I've been debating between Spiritual and Cardiac for my AR/Traps, anyone experiment one way or the other and found any success?

  9. Congratz! Was going to offer you assistance, we'll be our weekly mayhem run (9 banks back to back) tonight @ 9PM, you could have tagged along for the three you needed... oh well, next time!

  10. Another great run, but WOW did the team fill up fast, and mostly hero AT's looking for the redside accolades! I think there was only one other villain aside from myself. So sorry to everyone that couldn't get on! To make it up to all my true evil brethren, next week will only be open to villain AT's levels 1-20. Got to give all those evil lowbies a shot at some mass mayhem!

  11. Running another strikeforce tonight. Join us for a Night of Doom: 9 mayhem missions back to back, 2 hours of mayhem madness and we all walk away with the Invader Accolade (+5%HP). Sweet and simple! 8pm EST tonight in Port Oaks.

  12. You guys are awesome for keeping this up! This game seriously has the best community ever! I'd love to start a weekly redside CC (watches a moth flitter by as I turn pockets inside out) but we'll see...

  13. Haaaate masterminds! Hate everything about them, second would be controllers, mostly because I hate not being able to use my tier 9 power due to my aversion to pets. I'm also jealous they have access to whips and beautifully simply dual pistol animation.

Have been debating a human form only kheld for a long time, though you're always a squid at heart and I have no interest in that concept at all.

  14. Event was awesome, took about an hour and a half for nine banks, everyone walked away with the accolade and a bunch of lowbies got 4-5 levels out of it. A good time was had by all. Will most likely be doing another Invader run next Saturday, same time, same place. I'll be looking for you Evil Irkin! ;o)

  15. The Doom Crew will be hosting a redside event tonight starting in Port Oaks at 8pm est. The Doom Crew specializes in mayhem missions and tonight we are recruiting temps to help us BURN PARAGON CITY TO THE F'ING GROUND!!!

We have made all the necesssary arrangements to hit all 9 banks back to back for a modified strikeforce event. We hit every bank, every police station, and every other thing you can possibly blow up! Those who make it through the night alive will receive the Invader Accolade (+5% HP), and the majority of the following badges needed for the Force of Nature Accolade; Vandal, Impounder, Safecracker, Firebug, Outlaw, and Villain!

There are 5 spots left on tonights crew, first five to ante up are in. Countdown has started to A NIGHT OF DOOM!!!

    Purple Drop Rate

I got 2 with a level 50 archery blaster running in Peregrine when purples first came out... have not gotten a single purple SINCE. It's been what, almost 2 years? I play my two mains (50's) 90% of the time I am on, spend about 10 hours a week farming papers or running ITF's. I support the conspiracy theory...

  17. Hey All,
I'm going to be cleaning out the vaults in my VG today. I've got 2.5 enhancement tables worth of IO's I am clearing out- looking to make some bucks on some good stuff however I dont want it to take forever so I will be moving a ton of it for peanuts. If you are in need of things like; Undermined Defense, Enfeebled Operation, Devestation, Nightmare, Dampened Spirits, Brilliant Leadership, Perplex, Crushing Impact, Titanium Coating, Adjusted Targeting, Essence of Curare, Glimpse of the Abyss, Tempered Readiness, Performance Shifter, Doctored Wounds, Harmonized Healing and much much more, there will be an influx of these items today (and maybe tomorrow, I dont want to have to juggle logging in and out between more than two toons to do this.)

So far I've got pieces for the following sets listed for 1 inf- Impervium Armor, Harmonized Healing, Luck of the Gambler, Gift of the Ancients, Nightmare, Tempered Readiness, Ghost Widows Embrace, Perplex, Rope A Dope, Kinetic Crash, and Titanium Coating.

  19. Holy Cow! Did you guys know that if you enter the sewer network and go to the door on the right you can go through to a whole new sewer map?! LMAO!!!

2 years of playing, I've never discovered that. Thanks everyone!

  20. Staring at the wall where it's supposed to be, I know it was bugged for awhile but I'm not getting a blue hand anywhere here and I haven't heard that they moved it.

Anyone know what the deal is?

    What the...?!?!

So I got a new video card last night and the game is absolutely beautiful, but something wierd happened. I didn't do a thing to alter my settings in any way other that crank up the graphics but I am having crazy issues with my controls.

When my toon is running and I right mouse click to direct myself the toon stops in place until I release my finger from the mouse button, then starts again. It's all herky-jerky and driving me nuts. I have fiddled with the settings but have not been able to fix it. Any ideas?

And it would completely go against the stated mission of the system: to be an alternate leveling path for characters from level 1 to 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, that's easier to fix then nixing the rewards for AE missions, they can probable edit that sucker out without even running an update.

I'm a genius, they should hire me!

Unless you have s specific recommendation for what the Devs should do to the AE system to make the players leave the AE and play the other content, I really don't know what this thread is doing here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No rewards for AE missions outside of "cool look what I made fun-ness". Problem solved, no more PL-ing or farming to be found there, it becomes what they intended, and we can return to our happy normal lives of dealing with nausiating faming spams in PI and the joy of watching lowbies get sniped as they try and make their way to Portal Corp to beg to be PL'd.

As I approach my 60 month vetran reward I have begun to review my opinion of the game today compared to the previous 5 years.

My overall opinion is that the game has lost alot of the lustre and promise of the early days.

In the early days CoH was a game about creating a unique Hero and going out and thrashing the bad guys. And CoV when it was released was similar on the villian side of the equation.

The Nerf bat was weilded in more sense or perhaps with more explanation.

New issues introduced new content, new adversaries, new abilities.

All these things somehow managed to come together and create a more interesting, challenging, and improved gaming experience.

Yet now I am left cold with the release of AE and the preceeding issue, and the resulting effect on gameplay as a whole. Instead of promoting and expanding the existing gameplay issues have destroyed the continuity that once existed.

As an old Vetran I have run alot of the content out there, have learned through that content how to play the different ATs, and in general enjoyed exploring over and over the many different nuances of the zones, TFs, and challenges that different builds face in CoX.

Now, with AE in place, I find that much of the preceeding content is being skipped by "new" players and they are more and more ignoring the aspects of the game which made it unique and interesting. Instead of AE bringing a whole new level of interesting content to the playerbase, it's implementation has brought "instant leveling gratification". A new player can in very short order skip all the content of the last 6 years to achieve what goal? To become a level 50 and not know how to play it? To constantly have to ask basic questions that the typical 12mos vet knows because they actually ran content?

I shake my head every time I enter Atlas and Cap zones, so many "players" but so few Heroes and Villians. The content of the game now is just so much window dressing and wallpaper, nice to see it hangs around, but in function having no pressing effect.

What is the sense of having so many zones if there is no pressing reason to go into them?

I can recall the first time I got into Founders Falls, having SK'd my 12 Controller to a 38 Tank and joining them on one of their missions. The new zone, the different mission content, it was all exciting and had purpose and meaning.

But now AE has made such things meaningless. You simply enter the building, click, and viola you're teleported inside one of thousands of missions which weren't created as real arcs, but as power leveling methods.

Just like PvP, AE implementation was thoughtless in it's outcome. Instead of becoming shining stars of achievement in a great game, they are flawed models whose implementation does not build on the rest of the content. PvP isn't universal in access to success and AE is universal in it's access to excess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was totally with you up to this point... that last little bit, yeah, that was some crazyperson talk right there. But otherwise you are dead on, AE has destroyed the spirit of the game, the developers basically neutered all of their previous hard work to create this amazing universe for us to explore by making it possible for people to level to 50 without leaving Atlas.

AE was a brilliant idea, giving us creatve license to make our own unique stories for our characters, teamates, whathaveyou. There should not have been any form of award associated with AE (xp, tickets, recipes, etc.), and they should have just dropped one or two buildings in less populated zones. It would have been the greatest RP tool ever and enhanced the already fantastic base universe that CoX was.

There used to be one of their members camped out by Castle in PI 24 HOURS A DAY, I kid you not. If you saw him every one of you would recognize him; big guy, white and beige costume whose name will go unmentioned because I'm sure there are wicked cool people in the SG that shouldn't be condemned through association. That was before the last issue hit, haven't seen them since.

As to what that dude in the other thread said to earn their hatred... I've got $20 that he said he liked Miss Californias stance on gay marriage or he hates Obama. Takers?
