Whats going on with my purple drop rate? I havn"t had a purple drop in like 4 issues. Now when I do get a drop its a temp power. I do TFs, Raids, Contact mishs arcs, radio mishs, Hunting. I'm I missing somthing ?

Not sure. the other day I was on an ITF and the leader scored a Hecatomb, which was cool, but on the next mish I scored an Unbreakable Constraint. All I can say is keep at'r.

Random drops are random.

If you want to maximize your chances, give yourselve the most chances in the shortest time - find something you can kill quickly and run those missions at -1 and x8.

This pretty much. Its all in the luck of the draw. Some days the roll chart just loves you, while others you may begin to wonder if the game just doesn't like you.

Well, the first thing I have to ask is, are you fighting level 47+ enemies? Those are the only ones that drop purples. (Technically, it's anything that cons green or better to a level 50, but I find that easier to remember.) There is no specific activity beyond this that increases your purple drop rate - they drop off enemy defeats.

Secondly, how much time do you spend teaming? TFs obviously you're teamed, but in general? Teams dilute your drops, as any given enemy will only (potentially) drop one purple, which will be randomly given to a team member. The drop rate for purples is speculated at anywhere from 1 in 1500 enemies to 1 in 5000 enemies. Those numbers are for solo play, so teaming will increase them by up to a factor of 8. The RNG is still random, though, so what has come before has no bearing on what comes next. IOW, you could just be having a very long unlucky streak.

I agree that it does seem Temp Powers drop a lot.

The good news is, if you have Going Rogue, you can now make a concerted effort to earn your purples beyond relying on luck. If you run hero or villain focused Morality missions you earn Hero/Villain Merits, which can be used to directly buy purple recipies from vendors in Fort Trident/The Crucible (found in Atlas Park/Cap Au Diable). Note that the first time you reinforce your morality, you get 50 regular Reward Merits instead of a Hero/Villain Merit. That's ok though, because you can also convert Reward Merits into Hero/Villain Merits at a rate of 50:1, for a fee of 20 Million INF. I glanced over the prices last night, and it seems Purple recipes run at about 20 Hero/Villain Merits right now.

I seem to take too long typing, as 3 others posted before me
Also I didn't check your Forum Reg date, so if you know all this already I don't mean to sound condescending about it.

The drop probability per mob is somewhere roughly between 1:1500 and 1:3000, based on various reports by folks here on the forums. We've never been given the drop probabilities for purples from the devs, though we have them for non-purples. (Excluding the TF/Trial drops they added to bosses - we don't know their odds either.) It's important to note that the numbers above are averaged across ranks: minions, LTs and bosses have differing drop probabilities from one another for other mob-drop recipes.

Temp powers and costumes are in their own drop pool(s). When you get a temp power, it is not "using up" your odds of having gotten a purple from that mob, because you can get both. I have several times now gotten a mob drop enhancement recipe and a temp power.

Finally, I doubt the drop rate has changed, though it's incredibly hard to tell from anecdotes when the overall probabilities are so low. In contrast to your dry spell, since I18 went live I have gotten four purples without doing anything other than playing things on +2/x4-6. Most of it has been morality missions.

For the "Pics or it didn't happen" crowd:

Man, do I get that Plasmatic Taser a lot.

I can say that I've personally gotten 2 purple recipe drops on my character that I was levelling-up through the upper 40s in the past week or so. This is not a farming character, they were just regular drops from defeating mobs in mission after mission.

Random is random. Things are usually pretty dry for me, but I once got five purples in the same arc, spread over two days. I was pretty spoiled.

I can feel your pain. I've run my scrapper at -1/8 for a couple months and have yet to see a purple drop but have deleted I don't know how many temp powers.

Just gotta keep at it and hope for the best.

Adding a /this to this.

I've had three drop in two missions. And I've gone months without seeing one - granted, I don't play the 50s continually, but when I was doing my "one of everything to 50," I was in range often enough you'd expect me to see them.

I went a couple of months without any purples at all (admittedly I wasn't practicing intensive agriculture) and then recently took my Shield/Axe Tanker out for a spin just for fun and got one in the first few minutes....and a second one 41 kills later. Wasn't even thinking about drops at the time. (Went back through the combat spam to count the kills just because it had happened again so soon that I was curious).

Extremely long odds can still produce strange clusters and droughts.

I got two this week from two different goons in the same mob, on the same map. I haven't had a purple since the five-spot last year...and the two landed so close to each other that the RECIPE FOUND purple banner just appeared once and stuttered.

The very fact that we occasionally get threads asking what the heck is going on with the drop rate confirms that the randomness is still WAI.

Maybe you'll get a string of purples sometime in the future.
Random is random, but in theory, given enough opportunities, it evens out. I dont know how many opportunities are enough though.

I have dropped two purples in mere seconds from each other, then go weeks without one. I have never got one on a team, only solo.

Eh , don't feel too bad. I've gone months of not getting purples, right now I'm about on another run of month 5 I think. Just keep punching those high level enemies and try a TF now an then. GL!

Al I can say is that I feel your pain. I run my 50 SD/SS Tanker every day and have gone months without a purple drop. I have gotten maybe three with him in the last year, while my buddy seems to get them everyday. One tip that I can suggest is to street sweep in PI. I have gotten a few there with my 50 Elec Blaster by doing this. I actually got two in one night by just running down the street and fighting anything that showed up. It is just the luck of the draw. Besides, if they dropped as often as Temp Powers, it wouldn't be as much fun and they would pay out as much in Wentworths!

The location of the foes (instanced versus street sweeping) is irrelevant. They need only be 47+. Random is random.

I know this is a dead horse question.. I'm just wanting a little clarification because I've never tried this before.

If I am lvl 47 and I run at +2 x5 (just picked 5 randomly), I should be in the running for purple drops?

Thanks for any replies.

I've gone months without a purple dropping. And then the day after GR went live, my brute received 2 purples in one mish. I nearly cried. One was an Armageddon and one was a Soulbound. Tne next day the same character picked up an Absolute Amazement. I doubt I'll see the like again, but it can happen to anyone

I've had purples drop in bunches and then long dry periods. I recall one mission where I got 2 (Hecatomb and an Unbreakable Constraint) and then periods of a month or more with nothing.

The market seems to have about the typical supply it's had all along so obviously they're still dropping, they're just not dropping to ME right now.

All bellyaching aside it seems fairly normal to me judging by the market supply and I've hit long dry spells on any number of occasions. Of course when I finally get one it'll be a Fortunata Hypnosis or something equally low value... the RNG definitely has a disliking to me.

15 weeks ago i logged my grav/empathy controller that i have not played for like 1 year, join a random rikti mission group with two players... 1hr later i look at the inventory, got an Apocalypse triple. Whew. I began to type that i got a good drop and bam... i looted another Apocalypse triple at the time i was typing.

I totally didn't expect to make 900mill in one hour helping someone on a low setting as well. So anything can happen, really

When they say random, that's just what they mean. I went through a very dry period of maybe 3 months and then picked up two in one mish. I forget what they were (Coercive Persuasion?) but a few days later got a Ragnarok. A few weeks since all this and nada.
