  1. You guys converted me about a week ago

In that time, I've made 150 million on a grand total of... ready for it? Four recipes. That's it. I took what I had, pooled my resources, bought a few high end recipes, crafted and listed 'em. Total time invested? Five minutes. Seven if you count the time it takes to hop between WW and the Unviersity.

I love the Market because people are LINING UP to give millions of inf for 5 minutes of work, then running out to spend hours on their fire/kin, while I'm out playing the rest of the game
  2. My first 50 was my DM/Regen scrapper, so I almost exclusively tend toward Sands of Mu simply because lining up the cone is second nature to hit at least 2, usually 3 targets without even thinking about it

The only time I do really miss the GSA though is fighting spectrals. Hate spectrals. Haaaate.
  3. ... *giggle* Um, wow. You just topped my "Spent ten solid minutes chasing a Warwolf boss" runner on my D3 this morning.

Seriously, the run AI is just a little out of hand these days. I don't remember it ever being this bad in past issues.
  4. I've expereinced drama, and been the subject of some myself, but in my defensse I was seriously depressed during that time, so I wasn't really myself.

That said, I've never experienced anything the likes of which I put up with back in WoW in any other game, let alone here. Virtue has its idiots like any game, but with the implementation of stuff like per-global player rating and avoidance of Pocket D, my idiot-to-awesome ratio is heavily weighted toward the latter these days.

I've said it before, but the worst thing that's ever happened to me in this game was the time a stalker tried to mug me as I was flying across a PVP zone back in, like, I7 or so. He was using Super Jump to try and keep up, landed on a Longbow Warden, and accused me of cheating. /Broadcast had a good laugh at his expense considering I apologized for his landing on said warden even before he started spewing crap at me for it (Despite it not being my fault to begin with )

Now, I'm at a unique position right now where I literally have one person still playing that I keep in contact with. My old SGs are all dead, or people log in once a week for thirty seconds then run off again, so I'm in the process of trying to find my place on the server again, but I still agree on the whole. It just feels more pleasant here, IMO.
  5. Something I've always wondered, but never thought to ask: is there a spreadhseet/chart floating around somewhere that lists either point-for-point, or overall-per-group what groups are resistant/vulnerable to what damage type?

A lot of them I've picked up over the years just through trial and error or hearsay, but some specific ones I'm not aware of, like if there are any groups with a Negative Energy vulnerability, etc.

Just curious. I'm not really hurting to fight any specific group on any of my characters. Even my Claws brute rips right through anything that gets in her way despite some claims that lethal is too commonly resisted (I enjoy fighting Fortunatas with her. That's.. so many levels of wrong )

    Danke, gracias, etc
  6. Scrappers - /Ninjitsu, Ice/Ice. I don't really care for Stone/Stone, but another option for Ice that's not Tanker would rock. Sorry Tankers. I like you as a friend and a teammate, but we're just too different.

Sonic for Masterminds would be great. I'm happy with /Thermal on my current MM project, but a Bruiser with Disruption Field even when solo? Yes please!

Brutes - Broadsword, Spines, Ninjitsu, Spines, Regen would be interesting with their higher HP, Spines, Ice/Ice, and did I mention Spines?

I love Dark Blast and Dark Miasma, and I used to be one of the big proponents for a Dark Blaster/Dark Controller of some bent. Anymore though, I'm not sure how they'd make it work without creating entirely new sets, so I'm not going to weigh in on that one. I'd love to see it done though, if they find the time

And I have no idea how Illusion would work on a Dom, but just thinking about it makes me giggle, so I'll give that one a big fat "Put me down on the HECK YES! list" stamp.

Edit: Apparently I just hadn't met the right Tanker. I'd still love to see Ice proliferated though
  7. I've got another one, but this is powerset specific. Reading a thread in a similar vein over on the General Discussion (about characters whose concepts you love, but simply can't play) reminded me of my short-lived Mind/Empathy controller.

Concept-wise I loved her to death. I loved RPing her. I hate hate hated that in the teens I was relegated to trying to heal for people who, on seeing me join, went "WOOT HEALZOR!" and promptly split off in seven directions, expecting me to keep up with all of them.

It's more "teammate fail" than "powerset/AT fail", but it happened so often I finally just deleted her I had her in an SG, but IIRC they never wanted her for teams, nor the coalition, so PuGs were all I had.

I've thought about ressurecting her, but I'm not sure how I'd recreate the concept with other powersets. Nothing hit home so well as Mind/Emp conceptually.

    Anyway...
  8. My Mind/Empathy controller. From concept to personality (Roleplayer, from the "interactive writing/improv" perspective, FWIW ) I LOVED her. I couldn't play her though because I found that the second I joined a team, they all went "WOOT HEALZOR!" and split off in seven different directions, expecting me to keep them all alive with my mighty, TO-slotted heals.

I miss that character so much, but I just can't tolerate the stupidity magnet that is /Emp >_>

The other one is my DM/Regen scrapper. Every time I play her, I feel like she's just not bringing as much to the table as other sets for too little in return.

Now it could be a case of rose tinted spectacles having created LN way back in i3 (shortly before i4) whenever I play her I'm reminded of how good regen once was, or maybe it's just that there are so many better secondaries now.

I had a BS/regen created around an issue prior to CoV (i5?) who I loved up until her mid 30s and played until her mid forties. She's now level 7 and stalled but with a different 2ndary. Again I loved her back story (about 8 pages of A4), I loved her look and name but hated regen.

As for anything else, loathe VEATs, dislike HEATs and can't seem to get anywhere with tankers.
This may be part of my problem with my DM/Regen. I made her in early I3. I once tanked Eochai, to a HUGE group of stunned onlookers as I just beat the guy senseless with impunity between ToF and IH.

The repeated Regen nerfs coupled with ED just sucked the fun right out of her, to the point that being a ST-heavy Primary on top of the secondary feels... kind of bland next to the likes of IOed out Foot Stomp, Lightning Rod, Shield Charge, etc.

Sounds/music in this game is subjective, many of the ones in the game I find annoying I have either silenced or altered.

I find it quite humourous when a Bots MM runs by and all I hear are rubber duckie squeaks.
The only sound that truly annoys me is Demon Summoning's constant howling. It's like nails on a chalkboard, but I have extremely sensitive hearing, so I'm not layering that one on the devs.

That, however, is a spectacular idea. I need to refresh myself on how to alter sound files since I haven't done it since Forcefield SFX looped.
  10. Although I deleted her back in ... I5 I think (made in either I0 or I1 ), my first Fire blaster's theme song was always Blaze of Glory because if Inferno didn't kill it, well, somebody got a wakie?

Masterminds, according to people that don't actually PLAY MMs and think the pets do all the work magically - Lump, PotUSA

Solo Tankers (Because the song will end before you finish a mission) - American Pie
  11. I actually made the dreadful mistake of trying this at only -three- on my Ninja/Thermal mastermind.

Three Warmth spammers plus three sets of genin/jounin. I didn't stand a chance. No WAY would I try it at 8 without a full 50 IO build, and even then that's pushing it.

    At least, not solo.

  13. Interesting idea, and one that resonates strongly with me. I'm a firm believer in the masking concept, that almost everyone masks their true selves to some degree, and some (like myself) mask it completely, at least offline, but that's getting creepy and psuedo-psychological so I'll just get on to my characters

Sakura Izumi, my Ninjas/Thermal mastermind looks drastically different. In the material plane she appears as a lightly armored high school-aged girl with a mask, using a minor glamour to alter her normal appearance, so that when she "goes incognito" it's harder to put two and two together. Her spirit appears as a "purified" female Oni with a blazing white aura, but not blinding to look at.

Aria of Winter appears as a living representation of frost. Where she walks, the ground frosts over beneath her feet, her skin is like crystalline ice, but her hair, by contrast, flows like water, tinted a tropical blue (A hint of warmth amid a sea of frost)

Metiana, my only other 'teen' character appears mostly as she does in the material plane, except that instead of her patched-together, shabby steampunk armor, she's dressed in the same tattered nightgown she wore for weeks following her parents' murder, orphaning her in the Rogue Isles a year ago, and her 'spirit' still clings to the old stuffed bear, one button eye hanging loosely, its stuffings starting to fall out a small tear in its belly.

She's probably my most inwardly 'tortured', complex character, at that.

Psychic Strike actually has the Sight, granted to her by a ... for lack of a better word, "psychic ghost", played by a friend, who found the fact that Rebecca for a long time wore a full helmet to shield herself from the myriad thoughts of the outside world a fascinating and saddening notion.

Despite her stoic and often very untrusting nature outwardly, her spirit self appears quite laid-back, dressed either in a floral print sun dress or a swimsuit, looking like she belongs right at home surfing a big wave (She's half-Polynesian, and her thoughts are always in what she lost at the cost of her powers)

That about covers my active, semi-active, or at least possibly-heard-of characters, except Crimson Willow, but she's one I haven't developed enough to really have an idea of how her hopes, dreams, and fears would shape how others would see her.
  14. Since I already have the salvage anyway I'll go ahead and craft it, throw it in somewhere and forget about it until her build matures a bit more.

Maybe I'll get lucky and pick up the other +regen unique(s) on the way to 50 (*snicker*)
  15. >_>

Yeeeeeah. I just had one of these drop for my steampunk-themed level 13 Claws/Willpower Brute while blowing off some steam (Sorry, I had to ) in the wee hours.

I'm just curious, how noticeable is the ~25% regen?
  16. Used to be Masterminds, probably because I've only ever played the Ranged sets. The irritating thing is, you can tell them to stay, but the second they go into combat, it's like someone loaded your battle bots and one protector drone with Wndows ME because two of them, sometimes three, will fire off one blast, then RACE off into melee despite you screaming at them to stop, heel, sit, roll over, play dead... Er, no, wait, they usually play dead just fine, after charging headlong into Silver Mantis' aura

I find Sandolphan's Revised MM Numpad Pet Controls freaking fantastic. It takes a little getting used to, but as many MMs as I've tried (over a dozen, accounting for different primary/secondary combinations) after awhile it literally just becomes second natre.

Anyway, I'm loving my Ninjas/Thermal MM. She's got a great theme (IMO), and when I tell the ninjas to get their butts into melee, they don't kick once, then sprint back halfway across the map to stand there throwing shurikens, so that's all a moot point now.

Probably the one non-epic AT I can't get into at all is Stalkers. Ironically I'm playing a Night Stalker assassin in an ongoing D&D campaign, but in CoH I just can't get into Stalkers, not for lack of trying.

Heroside there are some powersets I don't enjoy, but not in the sense of locking me out from playing the entire AT, with the sole exception of Kheldians.

Khelds I find interesting lore-wise, but I just don't find them fun.

I generally enjoy all the ATs. But as someone said earlier, for me, its finding the right combination of powersets really, and not the AT itself that I have problems with.

Case in point: Masterminds. I love the concept of them. It slightly reminds me of my days as a Master Creature Handler in SWG (Intrepid server). So when CoV came out, I clung to the idea of making an MM! ...I hated that AT for over a year, after that initial try. It wasn't until just a few months ago, I forced myself to play to level 12 with every MM primary and secondary. It took a little over a week, but I finally found the combination that made me go "Weee!": Necro/Poison. I love it. I have fun with it. I got the MM to 43rd in less than 2 weeks.

So yeah, really it's the powers that determine if I like an AT or not.
See, that's what I'm talking about I tried every secondary and nothing 'clicked' until I hit upon my Nin/Thermal, who was almost a Nin/Storm, but I got tired of spamming O2 For me at least, this was precisely the trouble, just finding a combination that excited and interested me ... Also, flaming ninjas are freaking hilarious to watch when they're sprinting into combat. They're like gigantic fire imps with better AI
  17. *swoops overhead piloting a rickety brass-plated rocket pack* Ahoy down there! Being the steampunk fan that I am, this music video was the first thing to come to mind when I saw the weekend theme ;-)

  18. Forum regular (particularly the Controller forums) - Local Man

Roughshod, THE most bad-*** inv/ss tanker I have ever met.

Elevator Man - Gravity/something controller with the Teleport pool - He MOVES people!

I'll toss in one or two more if I think of any.
  19. >_>

I ran into him on my D3 tonight. I'm really, REALLY glad I kept him locked down at max range now. That had better be a bug because that's just cheaper than a crashless T9 (Looking at you, Freedom Phalanx)
  20. Got another one, but largely because I can't remember if I was still playing when this was added

The "Last objective in your mission shows up on the map" thing. To quote a friend of mine back in 2004, after we spent an HOUR in Orenbega searching for that last hostage,

"Just let me friggen take 20 on my search check!"

This change, for someone like me who has absolutely zero sense of direction, and can get lost on ANY cave map in the game, is absolutely fan-freaking-tabulous.

Also seconding Lady C on corsets. My goth chick gets by with a combination of Witch and Wedding packs for her 'onstage' outfit/costume, but a proper corset for Costume 3 would rock.

    Spines...

    Sigh. Curse you people.

I clicked on this thread out of sheer morbid curiosity because, for me, I could never get into spines for getting past the "Bananas pop out of nowhere" appearance. I forgot that Power Customization fixed this until about mid-way through reading.

By the time I reached the last post I had fully conceptualized a new Spines/something steampunk scrapper with metallic "spikes". I really did not need another alt

I'm still bouncing around the notion on the secondary. Elec is the best thematic fit, but Fire can't be discounted either. Maybe even /Dark, but I'm not a fan of Dark Armor's playstyle.

Anyway, off to play with Mids.

But I think it has to do with the over all lack of content as opposed to CoX, which is an unfare advantage; CoX had the same problem during it's first year.
Heeee, yes, the creative freedom was crazy fun. I stumbled into a dauntingly powerful combination with Darkness and the Regeneration defensive - so much so that I tanked ... I want to say an arch villain equivelant for a solid ten minutes until backup arrived during one of their open world events (the 'Assassinate the Mayor at his speech' thing in Millenium City). I couldn't KILL the guy, but he couldn't do enough damage to take me out either, between my powers, regeneration, and abusing the geometry for line of sight blocks.

I kind of miss Gauntlet Chainsaw on my gadgeteering power armored ex-prison guard, too.

Oh, while I'm here I thought of another "Holy crap!" one they added with GR. The Alignment missions are really, really cool, and I love that my Mind/Psi dom can be the rogue she was always meant to be, but there's something giggle-worthy about being able to buy a rare/unique like LotG +7.5% recipe for the price of a few days of casual work (Two alignment merits).

Granted it's slower than, say, running TFs, but it doesn't change much from my normal play habits so they're basically a bonus to doing what I always do, which is an awesome way to implement it IMO.

But to be on topic, what did I squee about CoX having that they didn't when I left? Uhm. I'm not sure. Quite a lot of stuff, really. I quit back in i11/i12. Whichever one Dual Blades came out in. I'm not sure which one because I barely played then. The RP community, in my eyes, had degenerated into insular cliques and rampant packs of ERPers. That and a drama with some friends, others leaving, et cetera. Anyway, on topic. I left around i11 or i12. It's now i18. I'm still trying to figure out what all the new stuff is. Yesterday I heard about some lounge for Heroes or Villains that's their reward for staying loyal. Sure, it's new with i18 but I hadn't heard of it before! I still need to go find it.

    TL: DR
Community = Yay (Although I still need to find non-Pocket D RP)
i12-i18 = Lots of new stuff for me, yay!
Point for point, that about sums it up for me

ANYway! Since I had already pre-purchased GR I decided to come back and see what changed with the last few issues. I haven't even had a chance to play around with Electric Control yet, and I still need to get my Plant Dominator through Praetoria, but I think the biggest surprise for me has been the Vigilance change.

Even before SOs I was soloing EBs on my D3 with a level of speed and safety - emphasis on speed, that I just wasn't used to. Maybe it's because I just haven't played for some time, but I love that change.

The community's been a breath of fresh air too, especially here on the forums. As was said before, the grass was browner on the other side, and for me at least, not necessarily because it didn't have enough water
  24. Before I hit 22 and switched from DOs to frankenslotting (Exception: I had some old L25 Decimations that I paid ~5k for before the market merge that were just collecting dust, so I slotted those into Gloom) with my Dark/Dark Defender, I had absolutely no problem soloing the Faultline chain of EBs.

Part of that is because I had enough blues to keep the end bar going, but to be honest, it felt as fast, or faster than when I did that arc on my Mind/Kin at the same level, and a LOT safer because Dark/Dark is monstrous anyway.

This is purely anecdotal evidence with no scientific backing whatsoever, but for me, I'm enjoying my Defender far more than I did my corruptor because the higher debuff numbers are more important to me versus doing better damage on a team. I'd say try something like a Rad/ or Dark/ primary and see if it's your cup of tea.

The damage bonus slides because the AT modifier slides, but after 22 you'll have a good idea of whether or not it's fast enough for you. For me it's just right.
