Who wouldn't be an Army of Me?

So, I'm in game on a level twenty Villain, and looking at Dean in my contact list I had a thought that's got my curiosity up. The character in question is a Dual Pistol/Rad corrupter, and thinking about the powers that would be available, I really did NOT relish the idea of trying for the Army of Me badge without help. Of course, now I'm thinking about what OTHER sets that would be rough in that mission.

So the question is: Who wouldn't you want to take through that mission solo? Difficulty doesn't matter, just which powers do you not want to see an entire team of?

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

An army of Thugs/Storm MMs might get out of hand... especially since it could get hard to see anything.

I actually made the dreadful mistake of trying this at only -three- on my Ninja/Thermal mastermind.

Three Warmth spammers plus three sets of genin/jounin. I didn't stand a chance. No WAY would I try it at 8 without a full 50 IO build, and even then that's pushing it.

At least, not solo.

I made this comment in one of the Global channels I am on, and a couple of the responses I got back were Empathy, Pain, and Plant/Storm as real trouble sets.

Thugs/Dark was not fun. I finally dialed it down. Doms can be troublesome. I have yet to try it on a stalker, but since I'm pretty sure they auto-aggro, the process would probably go "Exit mission, reenter, eat purples/yellow, AS, exit, enter, rinse, repeat."

I had a devil of a time getting that badge on my Ice Blast/Cold Domination Corruptor.

Thugs/pain was stupidly hard.

Even though that is a lower-level arc, and my Crab (who was flashbacked) did not have access to any of his pets...somehow ALL HIS CLONES DID. As the clones start popping out of the woodwork, I eat a few inspirations and prepare to go to work.........and my jaw just dropped as they all started summoning Arachnos disruptors and spiderlings.

Heh, yeah that was an oddity for me as well, when I ran the mission on my Bots/Traps mastermind. I know the character is supposed to be a genius, but for them to have their own armies of Robots mere minutes after being popped out of the clone chambers is...impressive, to say the least.

Though I was a little sad to see that the clones were Bots/Devices, instead.

Yeah, traps isn't available for custom critters in AE for some reason, and the doppelgangers use custom critter mechanics (set to Hard, as far as I can tell. So if you want to see just what powers your clones will have, go into the custom critter creator and see what you have on Hard/Hard).

VEAT powers aren't available for custom critters either though, but the doppelgangers still have them. Has anyone fought a doppelganger with a squid yet? What do you get?

Dark Miasma is definitely no fun. Army of Elec/Pain Corruptors isn't all that fun either, they keep healing and draining all your end.

I had a heck of a time on my Mind/Psy Dominator. I needed a whole rack of break-frees and a few trips to the elevator or I was going to get perma-held all over the place.

My kin/elec defender. Eurgh. Haven't tried it, but still... that would be awful.

This wasn't on the army of me mission, it was on the hero side clone mission, but fighting a KM/DA brute clone was annoying. The annoying part was that he always had Cloak of Darkness. The battle went like this "Where the heck is..." *KNOCKBACK!*

I can imagine some tanks would be rather unfun. Fire/Fire, BA/Inv, Elec/Elec etc. Anything that heavily resists it's main damage (particularly if it can heal too), combined with a tank's high defenses and lowish damage would be sooooo boring. You won't die, but they won't either

My stalker's been my easiest Army of Me run so far. They only seem to auto-aggro the first time, after which they're content to mill about and wait for you to come get them. My blaster, though... even if you eat enough purples to push yourself significantly over the softcap, 8x ice blasters with Aim and Build Up is a scary thing to face.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Well I don't know what AT/powerset combo might be the hardest to face in an Army of Me 8-clone scenario, but I can report an encounter that was strangely trivial. I took my level 50 Fire/Rad Controller (fully Purple IO'd) through the Ouroboros version of that mission and she managed to kill all 8 of her clones in literally about one minute. I don't really know if I should be happy about that or not.

Basically all I did was pop my big Accolade powers (Demonic/Force of Nature), drop a breakfree and Smoked them first. When I charged in I simply managed to hold most of them with my AoE Mez powers and let my Imps/Hot Feet chew through them.

It was all soberingly anticlimactic to say the least.

On my Mind/Psi I just spammed Confuse and had them thin out each other...

Woo, glad to hear I wasn't the only one.

I noticed the same thing on the Positron mission with the clones. They seem able to use up to level 32 powers at least, if not higher. It makes it rather tough when you're limited to level 15 to 20 powers.

Sounds like the aoe mez was key there. You caught them by surprise and they never got the chance to fight back. I suspect the fight would have gone differently if you didn't mez them before they saw you.

I did a Posi with 3 PBs once. All 3 clones had Photon Seekers....

Thugs/dark was a nightmare on x8. They all had the lovely -tohit toggle that strangely only a couple spammed. I managed it solo by focusing on one at a time and dropping gang war at every opportunity. I didn't have the fitness build and eventually beat them all... three hospital trips later.

I also helped a widow out with my own widow while doing x8 and we were blinded pretty much all the time. If it was for our third team-mate, a brute who kept outside the intial smoke grenade range, we'd never have got them down. We did wipe a few times on that one too.

The wierdest fight I've had though has to be the most recent where I took my mind/ff troller. I nearly got beaten so many times because of all the stacked bubbles but one drop of Mass Confusion and suddenly I couldn't be hit at all. It was the longest of the fights I've had so far and certainly the funniest.

I've done a tip mission against myself with photon seekers

'least my clones can't/won't go nova/dwarf, that would really be a problem.
