I came back and now they have X? Awesome!
An RP community who actually Role Plays and not just argue about cannon?!
I know this seems like an odd statement "of course we rp" you might say, but I guess when I was here for so many years I took for granted not all RP communities are so willfully creative as this one and so willing to just let go of the bs and just Role play. It took coming back after a year absence to really appreciate that and upon my return it was like a nervous twitching muscle formed by months of annoyance finally relaxed, its only been two weeks and I've seen more rp than I have in a year in other MMOs.
I was also gleefully accepting of the power customization.
uhm....I came back also, like Lady, to re-realize how open the RP community is, because...well, it really is the ONLY /good/ superhero MMO on the market still, and always has been. So the lore is open to have so many possibilities that it makes it just fantastic.
Magisterum- 50+3 Fortunata--Virtue
Lukerion- 33 Emp/Rad Defender--Virtue
Noah Heartily- 34 SS/SD brute- Virtue
Mika Heartily- 50+1 Fire/MM blaster-Virtue
I have to say, the RP community was also part of it. When I went to another MMO, I went with a group of friends that I'd made here, but the only RP I found was with them. Eight months and I found random RP twice. Well, about fifteen times if you count cybersex requests. :P

...sorry, back on topic.... lets see well since my friends are back, even though we always talk on the same forum its like wow really going to get GR...
So i was pleasantly surprised when I could move my villain hero, and I am having fun with the Dual Pistols... but the only reason to really stay is for the RP, since my biggest issue with CO* is lack of high-end solo playability. which apparently comes soon.
But i do like the added low-end content.
but hopefully all the Ol'time Guardian Angels who came back for GR Stay.
reason to stay
I have always loved that in City of Heroes, you could continue to play with your friends even when they out leveled you. Sidekicking was awesome.
Exemplaring down was also awesome.
When I came back, I discovered that the mission holder sets the level for the whole team now. No more trying to pair up mentors and sidekicks, it just happens, like magic!
They took the thing that I love best about City of Heroes and improved it!
Of course I also like that my ice/power blaster doesn't have to have pink pompoms of doom, but can make the power any color at all. I like the tip missions, and the fact that my villain can be more of the rogue I always felt she would be. I'm enjoying the choices that I am facing in Praetoria, even if my little Praetorian alt had to abandon a story arc because, well, let's just say she wouldn't ever DO something like that.
However, what keeps me coming back is that no matter how altoholic I am, I can still team with friends, and meet their friends, with no limits placed on our teaming by how fast one or several of us level...or don't level.

The first thing I have to mention is something I discovered last night. Why is /e sitchair now /e sitstool? That just seems silly. Perhaps more accurate since even with the sitchair emote you couldn't sit in most chairs, but still!
But to be on topic, what did I squee about CoX having that they didn't when I left? Uhm. I'm not sure. Quite a lot of stuff, really. I quit back in i11/i12. Whichever one Dual Blades came out in. I'm not sure which one because I barely played then. The RP community, in my eyes, had degenerated into insular cliques and rampant packs of ERPers. That and a drama with some friends, others leaving, et cetera. Anyway, on topic. I left around i11 or i12. It's now i18. I'm still trying to figure out what all the new stuff is. Yesterday I heard about some lounge for Heroes or Villains that's their reward for staying loyal. Sure, it's new with i18 but I hadn't heard of it before! I still need to go find it.
TL: DR
Community = Yay (Although I still need to find non-Pocket D RP)
i12-i18 = Lots of new stuff for me, yay!

I'd have to leave in order to come back, and despite requests, I've never left.
I gotta say though, I love most of the changes that have been made. I colored my FF/Energy Defender's Blasts green to match Force Bolt.

It was so frustrating.. yeah, there was RP there, but I had lore-purists sending me tells telling me to 'leave the main IC channel and go where I belong.'
And to think I thought they were pretty cool people before.
Oh well, I came back for Going Rogue and the first night, I found RP without having to goad anyone into it!
I would like to issue a plea on behalf of Paragon's diminutive protectors, please watch where you step. We're four feet tall in a six foot tall world, we've been cast adrift in a sea of butts. -Pillbug
Have to say after getting as much done in Praet as possible and then taking my stalker hero side... I feel like I've exploited something. It's a good but naughty feeling.
I found everything I wanted the game to be when I bought it at launch, and when I bought it again at CoV launch. The potential is finally being realized.
So all the RP is locked away in D huh? I've been out teaming on three characters, hoping to find some, trying to stay in-character whenever possible in non-global chats, and haven't found anything yet. Guess I need to go clubbing...

...A wet and sticky death.
Heh.
Heh.
...Personally, we need to bring back Gemini Park or other places OUTSIDE of the D for roleplay, as not everyone wants to join a RPSG, which is usually a good way to find RP.
But anywho.

I hope it doesn't die down...
I hope Studio 55 gets popular. Then again, that's also a club settings. I've seen lots of people RP in random places in Praetoria. I saw some people in People's Park in Imperial City some time ago. I hope it doesn't die down... |
But all in all it's just another Pocket D. You'll encounter the same groups if it does become popular unfortunately, that's a given.

As for the club setting; yah, it'll be the same. But I don't think it's bad. I don't get why people have so many issues with "club settings". It's a club. People go there to drink, pick a petty fight, or try and hit on someone. That doesn't necessarily mean the quality of RP is 'bad' (whatever that means). It's just the context is what it's supposed to be.
Well, it's more or less confirmed that they're gonna let Primal Earth characters go to Praetoria. It's probably gonna go live the same time they'll add 20-50 content to the place. I think it was War Witch who said it. Not sure. So that'll just need some patience. As for the club setting; yah, it'll be the same. But I don't think it's bad. I think the other benefit of it is, you don't really have two bars that far apart. Grant it seeing 100 people in Studio 55... it's going to be crowded >_<
And I see nothing wrong that. Some characters fit that scene. I just recently made a clubber girl, and she just fits into Pocket D so well.
The main issue that I've also experienced is that not -every- character fits the setting Pocket D provides. Some characters have no reason to be in a club to begin with, and some are too asocial to enjoy their time there. And it's annoying that this is the -only- RP hot spot, and that non-clubbing/shy characters just don't have anywhere else to go if they just want some random, spontaneous RP with someone they probably don't even know.
And I think Praetoria is starting to fix that issue with all the random RP I've seen around all the shiny zones. But it may be just that. Shiny. I just hope it stays that way.
Edit: Sorry we totally hijacked your thread, Makai. I'll let you make 2 pun threads without me nagging at you in return!

ANYway! Since I had already pre-purchased GR I decided to come back and see what changed with the last few issues. I haven't even had a chance to play around with Electric Control yet, and I still need to get my Plant Dominator through Praetoria, but I think the biggest surprise for me has been the Vigilance change.
Even before SOs I was soloing EBs on my D3 with a level of speed and safety - emphasis on speed, that I just wasn't used to. Maybe it's because I just haven't played for some time, but I love that change.
The community's been a breath of fresh air too, especially here on the forums. As was said before, the grass was browner on the other side, and for me at least, not necessarily because it didn't have enough water
I agree, though I admit I miss the freedom of choosing what I want in my character. Something about it just seems off, not the cartoony style because frankly the polygon count is so high it's still satisfying to see a well designed character of your own on your screen. But I think it has to do with the over all lack of content as opposed to CoX, which is an unfare advantage; CoX had the same problem during it's first year.

I kind of miss Gauntlet Chainsaw on my gadgeteering power armored ex-prison guard, too.
~~
Oh, while I'm here I thought of another "Holy crap!" one they added with GR. The Alignment missions are really, really cool, and I love that my Mind/Psi dom can be the rogue she was always meant to be, but there's something giggle-worthy about being able to buy a rare/unique like LotG +7.5% recipe for the price of a few days of casual work (Two alignment merits).
Granted it's slower than, say, running TFs, but it doesn't change much from my normal play habits so they're basically a bonus to doing what I always do, which is an awesome way to implement it IMO.
Outside of the D, well, for RP there's a handful of good RP S/VGs out there, every Cape Radio show, tons of hosted server events, I end up with fun mission RP with 'Roleplay preferred' in my search if I'm PuGging...its more spread out these days instead of the giant clump of people but the RP is certainly there
I do miss a good global IC channel, too many pissing matches in them have pretty much killed them off, but otherwise RP is quite alive and well
In no particular order:
1) Power Customization.
2) Ability to mail enhancements etc.
3) Ninja Run.
4) Epic Archetypes at lvl 20.
Numbers one and two have already been discussed and it's pretty easy to figure out why they are awesome.
Number three, Ninja Run, is friggin fantastic - if you haven't gotten the Martial Arts Super Booster yet go run and get it. I've talked to people who already have the City Traveler badge who have told me that Ninja Run has improved their play experience. With Sprint+Swift+Ninja Run available I now often delay picking up my travel power in favor of other things.
Number four, Epic Archetypes at lvl 20, is a fantastic gift to those of us who have been playing for years but who are so gripped by alt-itis that we haven't bothered to get even one character to lvl 50 (there are more of us then you might think).
Ooo there's also the way how SKing works now. Although kind of a bummer to see power leveling gone for the sake of getting "that one toon high enough" but otherwise it's a lot more convenient and reliable. No more annoying spam of getting too far and accidentally getting auto bumped down into the slaughter. There's no real action necessary besides setting up your settings in the options.
Like many of you, I took a break from the game. Now that we are back many of us have been shocked to see that something mindblowing in the game when we returned. Something we really wanted, but wasn't there before.
For me, that something is power customization. I dunno, something about making my DM/Regen's healing "life energy" gold instead of green just made him more fun to play. As did being able to have my MA/WP look like she's a scrappy tomboy instead of a reject from the Matrix.
