What are the classes you just cant play?
((I don't have a problem rp'ing with people playing Kheldians, whether they are rp'ing them as Kheldians or not. I'm just saying I don't enjoy them. I don't like the alternate forms, and I just can't get into the symbiotic thing. There's just not enough flexibility built into their backstory to suit me. And since I don't enjoy it, it's hard for me to rp it. My characters interact with Kheldian characters all the time. It's just not for me.))
It's hard for me to get into Defenders; I go for controllers every time. The combination of buffs and controls make combat feel more active than straight buffs and alright damage.
Same thing for my Corrupter who's sitting at level 20. Poor fella's great at putting down a debuff or two and then spamming his heal, but I only made it as far as I did because I was eager to unlock the VEATs.
If you asked me this last year I'd have said blasters, but duoing on twin AR/Dev soldiers with Leadership and the Medicine pool (and Provoke..) have taught me the error of my ways. It's hard to get more tactical than that.

Add me to the list of mastermind fail... Course I can't play a "hunter" in that other game either.
Lets see -eyes character list-
Seems I have an addiction to controllers mental ones at that, but any controller will do in a pinch.
You would think that would suite the mastermind mentality, but I don't want my battlefield moving, I want to lock ...it ... down.
Unless I am playing chaos. -grin-
I've got another one, but this is powerset specific. Reading a thread in a similar vein over on the General Discussion (about characters whose concepts you love, but simply can't play) reminded me of my short-lived Mind/Empathy controller.
Concept-wise I loved her to death. I loved RPing her. I hate hate hated that in the teens I was relegated to trying to heal for people who, on seeing me join, went "WOOT HEALZOR!" and promptly split off in seven directions, expecting me to keep up with all of them.
It's more "teammate fail" than "powerset/AT fail", but it happened so often I finally just deleted her I had her in an SG, but IIRC they never wanted her for teams, nor the coalition, so PuGs were all I had.
I've thought about ressurecting her, but I'm not sure how I'd recreate the concept with other powersets. Nothing hit home so well as Mind/Emp conceptually.
Anyway...
I have a love/hate relationship with my favorite classes depending on whether I'm teaming or not. Teaming, I love to tank. Love it. I go to a zen-like happy place tanking. I love keeping people alive by taking all the punches. Tanking makes me happy. Also blasters and corruptors in the group setting (especially corruptors). I love picking off targets, and I love the combination of damage and support a good corruptor combination of powersets brings.
But if I try to solo my tankers/blasters/corruptors I want to cry.
Vice versa, I love brutes and MMs for solo. Love 'em. Brutes just make me happy. MMs I just adore, but brutes (if I'm not the "tanking" brute) drive me nuts because I get overwhelmed trying to pick up targets in large group setting, and with my MMs I I live in fear one of the children will run off and aggro a whole group of baddies... though if I'm a healing MM I have an easier time. I have a lot of scrappers, but I always liked brutes better than scrappers.
There's a class on each side I've never got past 20 though--defenders and stalkers. Defenders I can't explain, and I feel like I should some day go back and try another one just to see where I went wrong. Stalkers I've tried, so hard, to enjoy, but they always just give me anxiety.
Khelds annoy the heck out of me. I get confused by how to slot them. Drives me crazy.
Weirdly, my two absolute favorite RP characters are both controllers, both of whom I leveled to 32 solo with only occasional grouping. Torture, absolute effing torture, but they're the two characters I'm most proud of even if neither has made it to 50 yet. I play them when I want a challenge.
But if I want to relax, it's brute or MM redside, scrapper blueside. Or I bring out my tankers and REALLY enjoy myself.
It's been great to read everyone's responses in this thread. This along with "What is your favorite Archtype to play" are questions that are fun to ask once a month a favorite chat channel.
Somewhat surprised at the amount of times Defenders is appearing on the list. When building a team, it is usually good to have at least one Defender, Controller, or Corrupter (Now Mastermind).
This is going to be a decent sized list.
-Brutes and Scrappers: Haven't been able to level any of them past level 25 recently.
-Controllers and Dominators: Order and chaos shall reign supreme! Just kidding. Both are slow to get off the ground. And for some reason I cannot get into the Controlling powers. Massive soft controlling powers are not effective enough for me, and I tend to lean towards building a controller who focuses on the secondary power set for some reason X_X
Both classes are heavy on stamina as well.
-Khelds: To be honest. Haven't tried them (Mainly because haven't had a level 50 hero in quiet some time. Wooohooo now that they are attainable at level 20. If only a character space would free up)
you know people say blasters are too squishy but mine's incredibly surviveable >_> mainly due to the high defenses from IO sets...but still, and dropping things before they can touch you. :3
I can't..can't...CANT play as a defender for some reason, or a controller/dom. I don't like being a primary support character or a control-only really...I like heavy damage or soft cotrol.
Not a fan of kheldians or tanks either.
Blaster or the VEATS are the way to go for me :3
Magisterum- 50+3 Fortunata--Virtue
Lukerion- 33 Emp/Rad Defender--Virtue
Noah Heartily- 34 SS/SD brute- Virtue
Mika Heartily- 50+1 Fire/MM blaster-Virtue
I really don't have issues with any of the particular AT's. That said, I've almost no experience with Kheldians, VEATS, Dominators, or Corruptors. I like them, I just haven't been able to get into a character I liked enough.
I do find myself avoiding Brutes on occasion, simply because I dislike Fury and have two other AT's that provide the powerset combinations (Tankers/Scrappers, my favourite AT's). I like my one Brute, but don't play her that often.
For some reason I attempt to roll EAT's and or VEAT's but I can never seem to get them off the ground. Why? Don't ask. I just can't seem to play them all the way through.
ah well after reading a few pages ... man people, I can feel the kheld hate!
The HEAT and VEATs are my favorite ... hands down. Least favorite out of the bunch is PB, they need some tweaking. Most people fail to realize the Epics, mostly the HEAT are pretty strong and probably the strongest up to 30s, and for some (WS notably) only get stronger. I admit it did take me awhile to feel the HEATs, but I absolutely love playing the 'jack of all trades' position.
Anyways -- I have every AT, atleast 2 50s slotted out of each (except MM & Stalker). I prefer ranged to melee, but I love mixing it up. My least favorite and played has to be the Stalker... Totally lacking AoE, really have to work for survivability, and just don't find it to be very teamy, which is what I like to do -- though, I dig the stealth thing. Next on the list is Defenders. I just don't feel the damage, I feel like I should be doing something else(primary obviously). If I want to buff I'll roll a controller, if I want to blast it up, Corrupter all the way. Sure, Defenders have the best numbers for buff/debuff -- I can't use that to justify playing them. Team of Defenders can be cool, but a Team of Corrs is better, and a team mixed with some control = wicked.
When I tried my first serious melee charcter, WP/SS Tank, I was like this is awesome -- I don't die. There are several situations that require tough toons, and Tanks are perfect. Granted some other ATs have some sets that -could- work. (I avoided melee for years)
Control -- obviously not for everyone -- but I do NOT see how you couldn't not want to lock stuff down and pulverize it. Doms lock down really quick, Domination is an awesome inherent, and they just lay down the damage - ranged or melee - not hurting for AoE too badly. Controllers I feel are the REAL support toons (not all combos), you can lock down the baddies and buff/debuff too.
MMs are in a class by themselves.... If you like pets - perfect. I'm kind of new to them, but I'm definitely not have a bad/boring experience.
'raw' dmg dealer - Scrapper, Brute, Blaster -- Always fun for when you wana killz!
There is alll sorts of stuff you can do with characters -- It is all about your play preference...
so yeah if I had to pick ------------
1. Stalker
2. Defender
3. mmm possibly PB or Brute, both need their defenses tweaked IMO.
Issue 24 PPM Calculator // The Great Makeover: The Vindicators
Defenders are the ones I just can't get into. for one, I don't usually have the time in a day to team enough to be beneficial, the damage buff they received a while ago is nice from what I hear, but every time I come up with a concept for one, the thought of the same set + scourge just looks better, so I go with a corruptor. but it would be cool to get SB on a /Kin, oops I mean Kin/, early on.
Pure healer defenders and corruptors, defenders more so. Why show up to heal damage when I can show up and prevent damage in the first place.
Melee of any type unless I roll it to solo. Just feels useless on a heavy control/debuff team. Always wild to watch my fire/dark corr kill 15 targets in the time it takes a melee to kill one.
Trying to do a tank again after having the class spoiled for me last year by someone telling me I was playing it wrong.
I've deleted a couple of defenders for the same reason...only worse...was first talked into adding aid to a storm/energy defender just so the SG I was in could have a healer..then not allowed to put her back...so of course, had to play her as a glorified blaster because I wasn't allowed to go up close...
Then told, when I started a kin defender for giggles..that I was playing that wrong and that they were not glorified blasters, I was supposed to get close enough to die, I was also supposed to buff every few second going down the whole team list..I finally had to start asking myself what was the bloody point of defenders if they WERE NOT ALLOWED TO DEFEND???!!!??? About to delete the kin defender because of the know it all who convinced me that no, I could not use knockback on the defender or the repel power....then I find out, that's encouraged in the forum devoted to defenders....!
Right now, I do have two active defenders, ironically. One is a healing type and the other has Archery/Rad. But I think I've just shown how easy it is to put people off certain types. All it takes is a know it all..or two.

I wish that there was an AT I couldn't play. Then maybe I would have less alts and more than one 50 I just figured out how to rock the only AT I had trouble with (MM's) and I added 3 more alts >.<

Me too! I just got my first 50 in two years of playing.
If I had to choose, I'd say Mastermind.
(V)Thomas Peterson -- The Plain Walker(H)
I have never managed to get a kheldian above level 8.
I thought I had trouble playing tanks, but, I have a dual blade/willpower tank closing in on 30?
That said, my empathy defenders and controllers made it to 30 or near and then ALL got deleted in disgust. Not with the powerset, since I do like the emp powerset. The teams I got picked up for though, were so different than what my trick arrow/archer or my kinetics were ending up on. My emps would end up on teams with three other emps, and no one would be buffing, or, only the tank would ever get any buffs from anyone other than me. I would, on a team with three other emps, be the only one putting fort on the blasters or scrappers, or clear mind on the other emps so that they could continue to...I don't know...spam aura heal and heal the tank of the damage he isn't taking? And, still, people would die. They'd separate, or I'd get mezzed and die first(after using all the breakfrees I had or could make), or something.
*takes a deep breath and attempts to stop ranting*
Soooo, I'd say empathy anything would be something I can't play. I get too annoyed by the players I team with.
Shae Firewarder
Least Favorite AT? That's a toughie. I'd have to say I'm torn between Khelds (Yep, hoppin' on that bandwagon), Blasters, Corruptors, and MMs. I'll hit each one with a reason.
Khelds: I've gotten a Warshade into the mid-20s and a Peacebringer to the late 30s. I just got bored. I absolutely loved my Human Form PB (the special effects were sooo shiny, I'd actually get dazed by them and stop paying attention to the game itself), but I never RP'd her. Thus, she got deleted.
Blasters: I have a level 38 Ice/Ice Blaster who was a blast to play once upon a time. I built her like a Controller with Blaster attacks. 3 Holds, an Immobilize, Ice Patch, et cetera. Oh, she was fun. Then I came back from my break and realized the one thing I can't stand about Blasters. They're squishy and they have no mez protection. There's nothing worse, for me, than being locked out of the fight with nothing to do.
Corruptors: I have a Corruptor at 38 as well, Sonic/Traps. Quite fun and very powerful when I know what I'm doing. But same problems as Blasters. Squishy and no mez protection. I live off the latter. Except, strangely, as Controller types (Controller, Dominator). But that's because nothing I fight can attack me 'cause it's held or Confused.
Masterminds: I leveled one of these to the late 30s before I trashed her. Couldn't get into the character RPly, but more than that the playstyle was just boring. Bots/Poison. I could solo any EB I came up against while practically AFK, but that's why it was boring. It required no thought and what was the point of Micromanaging the Bots? They took care of themselves.
These days I find I have two favorite ATs. Brutes and Arachnos Widows (Fortunata). Brutes are just crazy fun, which confuses me. In most games I can't stand melee fighters and prefer to play support types. But in CoX? I loves me some Brute. And the Fortunata are basically Mind Doms with Psy Blast and a Status Shield. I can Hold/Confuse you, but you can't Hold/Confuse me! Mwaha! Oh, and the Stealth is nice too.
All in all, there's a few things I look for in an AT. Immunity to Status Effects (or ways to neutralize them without Insps), Fluidity/Synergy in powers, and Stealth (but that's stupid easy to get on any character now).
Know what I find funny though? Two of my favorite characters are from two of my least favorite ATs. My other two favorites are from my favorite ATs, making it a dead split.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I can play almost all of the ATs, some being more preferable than others. My take on each AT (from favorite to least favorite, with my scores):
Dominators 10/10 - LOVE my Doms! Something about doing some serious damage to enemies who can't move just makes me feel more like a super-powered being. The only Dom sets I don't like playing are Mind Control and Psionic Assault. I had a blast with my Earth/Earth Dom (deleted her only because I don't like the Rogue Isles), and my current Elec/Energy Dom in Praetoria (FUN)
Corruptors 9/10 - I never played a Corruptor in the Rogue Isles, because I really didn't like the look or feel of redside. BUT, once GR launched I have made DP/Thermal, Fire/Dark, and Rad/Kin Corruptors who I have just fallen love with playing.
Brutes 8/10 - Brutes are so much fun for me. Sure, a bit less survivability on average than Tanks, and a bit less damage on average than Scrappers. But, they feel like the perfect balance between the two for me. I know that it all depends on the build, sets, IOs, etc. But, they feel like what both Scrappers and Tanks SHOULD be (IMO only, YMMV).
VEATs 8/10 - The Widows and Spiders are very different feels, but I get the same amount of enjoyment out of both.
Stalkers 7/10 - Their survavibility is kind of low, I know. But, something about feeling like the covert assassin who sneaks through the shadows is just a lot of fun for me to play.
Defenders 7/10 - Depends on the primary I choose, but I like having a strong team support role, and decent (though, still low) attack strength. My Kin/Energy Defender is my main (and my namesake).
Controllers 6/10 - Again, it depends on the sets chosen. My first 50 was a Grav/Emp troller that I still love playing.
Tankers 5/10 - I have a hard time getting in to most sets, but my WP/KinMelee Tanker is turning out to be a lot of fun. There is something great about the increased survivability.
Blasters 3/10 - I feel so useless playing a blaster. I get bored just hitting buttons from a distance, yet scared to death that a random twig will fly my way and make me faceplant. Great for damage, but I get so bored with them.
Scrappers 2/10 - Again, I don't really see their purpose. Sure, I know how strong good Scrappers can be, but I just feel like they aren't as balanced in the offense v. defense stats as Brutes are.
Kheldians & MMs 0/10 (in fact, may be a negative score) - I can't stand Kheldians or MMs at all. Hate playing them, hate playing on a team with them, and just don't see any use for them whatsoever. For Kheldians, I don't see what they bring to a team. They get buffs off their teammates, add new enemies we have to fight, and really don't give anything back. They aren't as good blasting as Blasters, and aren't as good tanking as Tankers (IMO). I have tried many times to play one, and it never works. I get too frustrated before level 30, and just can't play them. For MMs, again I don't see what the bring to a team beyond pets that crowd the players, draw aggro, and annoy the crap out of me. The MM secondaries are fine, but give me a Defender, Corruptor, or Controller for those sets any day of the week. I would be perfectly content to never see another Kheldian or MM again.
So, yes, that's my list...and just my opinion. No need to flame because I don't like your favorite AT (such as calling me a mindless fool for not liking Kheldians), or because I love your least favorite AT.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I can sympathize with Heroid's school of thought and those who have a similar feeling towards Warshade/Peacebringer in terms of roleplay.
However one of the toons I enjoy playing is a warshade that I roleplay as being a galactic bounty hunter who tracked down a Nictus and forced it inside himself. And became an Anti-Nictus. Like he supressed the Nictus' will with his own. However he was forced to go to Earth to learn the way of the warshade so that he could control the Nictus inside him.
I think that they are Khledians (sp?) are very maluable if you know how to create variants on a theme - for instance a bond with a third Khledian, or the Khledian was forced out however some powers still remained. Maybe a Khledian left the person and they searched for a new one? Sure there is the big you have to have some connection to an energy being aspect. But if you were to go for a stone/stone dominator you have to have some connection to the Earth itself. Just like any other archetype. Tanks have to somehow be able to take a lot of damage.... you get the picture
Back on topic I'm still new so I am experimenting :P Although my stone/stone dominator is really cool.
Kheldians who aren't really Kheldians are a pet peeve for a lot of people, you know :P
Characters!:
Pinny - Scrapper
Shadewing - Defender
@Pinny
On the top of my list, strangely enough, are blasters. I just can't get into them. I think it's their sheer, tunnel-vision focus on damage. Granted, there's a bit of soft control! But it's not enough for my tastes. It isn't a ranged vs. melee preference, since a) blasters are not pure range and b) I play purely ranged characters just fine. I think it's more that I perceive their role as something rigid, something you can't deviate from. I like flexibility.
Aside from that, I have a pretty diverse range of what I like to play.
My most-played character is a scrapper. Other people said they don't see the point, but I think they're reliable, non-situational and non-squishy damage. There's little pressure of me needing to grab aggro for someone else, or needing to watch my own hide because a couple of hits from a group will take me down if it isn't locked down or someone else has its attention. I'm there, I'm nigh-impossible to take down, and I will lay down the hurt - it's a zero-sum game for the enemy. Either they're paying attention to someone else and I have more freedom to dish out damage, or they're paying attention to me and all the pressure I can handle is taken off of my teammates. Once you know your limits as a scrapper, push them hard - be the very antithesis of timid, but don't be overzealous.
Brutes are tougher. They can take more. They don't have the same "ignore me or don't, it's still gonna hurt" bit that scrappers do. They thrive off of attention. Their performance is directly based on how fast they attack and how much they make the enemies hate them. They're very selfish when it comes to aggro, and the pressure they take off of squishies is (usually) more of an extra than the primary goal. It's an appreciable difference they have from both scrappers and tanks, and they're just as dissimilar to those ATs as, say, Dominators are from Controllers.
I love controllers as well. (Someone else mentioned not liking pets; have you considered Mind/?) Again, there's the flexibility thing again - locking down enemies in conjunction with the support helps provide multiple kinds of mitigation. I don't feel on-edge about missing a hold or two here or there, since I feel like my debuffs/buffs/soft controls/what-have-you helped take care of something along the line, and vice-versa.
Dominators are a very ... visceral control AT, and not parallel to controllers. They're active defense, not passive defense, and there's just something very satisfying about locking an entire spawn down, bosses included, and laying loose. It's a very knife's-edge style of play. It feels like a dance, not a march.
Same reason why I enjoy Khelds, particularly Warshades. The weird thing about the Kheld ATs is that they're a redside-paradigm AT residing primarily in a blueside-setting. They don't specialize, they have versatility - and hey, that's a huge strength in and of its own. And I don't mean "the PB fills the support role when the team lacks one because they have a heal" or "the WS fills the tank role because they have Eclipse and can go into Dwarf form" as if they lapse into whatever the team's lacking. It's more - they can slip in and out of each role whenever the heck they want/need to. Eclipse as human. Mire as human. Mire again as dwarf. Blast as nova with capped resistances and loads of damage buffs. Switch to human again to stun the next mob and pop Stygian Return. Dwarf to duke it out while things are on cooldown. Again! There's that "more of a dance, not a march" knife's-edge feel.
I don't mind Defenders or Tanks because their damage isn't really 'low,' it's just baseline. And really, in the case of longer-lasting fights, support makes things go so much faster than raw damage, since it's more about making damage 'stick' past regen and healing. They just don't tickle the same sensations that the other ATs I mentioned hit. But after playing both, I also don't feel like they're pigeonholed in the same way I feel blasters are.

Masterminds. Can't stand to play them, and I've -tried- to. Most all of the variations, at least before Demon Summoning came out. But...just no. Can't even stand to be on a team with one. I've quit teams when one's gotten invited. Won't do it. Nope. Can't make me change my mind, either.
I play them all, though my squids are probably the least played ones... I simply despise them at low levels, not to mention the annoying Voids/Nictus.

The AT I've played the least are Corruptors. It's the only AT that I've never gotten out of the teen levels, outside the Epics.
As far as the Epics go, I've got a Lv. 12 Peacebringer and a Lv. 12 Arachnos Soldier. I think the main reason I never really got into those was because with them, the character's origin story's basically already been written for me, which takes a lot of the fun out of creating a character for me.
For Corruptors, I really don't have an explanation, though.
