Super Booster V - Mutant Theme Costume Sets: Feedback

Count me in as another who would love to be able to use the bioluminescent texture on tights too, skipping the scaly skin effect. That as an option would GREATLY expand the utility of this set.

Which is why the Mutant origin is redundant. Natural and Science covers all the themes in Mutant.

I like this pack because it makes up for the Science pack hosing those of us with scientific experiment characters rather than scientist characters.

Seeing the bioluminescent set really makes me wish we had loincloth aprons as costume pieces- that way characters using it could keep their modesty
I'll also add a request for matching feet for the bioluminescent set, as well as the organic armour chest and belt details.

I can agree with it... The Lady Gaga a few pages back as an example looks like it has a bad case of dermatitis... LOL

All subjective:

-Bioluminescent leaves me a bit cold, though I appreciate the work that went into it. I think part of the problem is having the face patterns tied to a SINGLE, rather fugly face.

-LOVE organic armor, but not having belt and face detail 2 pieces makes it seem incomplete to me.

-ESPECIALLY not having a chest detail for orgo-armor is a big weakness IMO. No way to make your oober-armored biobeastie from Hades.

-why on EARTH are the orgarmor boots ONLY available as heeled? Face it, folks- if you're wearing that stuff noone is staring at your calves or butt- they're running AWAY. As someone else pointed out, 'organic armor' could very well be part of your body- and I strongly doubt anyone would choose to GROW spike heels on their feet...

Haven't yet looked at the new stumechange emotes, though the video that was posted makes them look pretty cool.

Once again, the constant din of requests to have a 'natural' or no weapons claws option has gone unanswered. So your bio-organic beastie STILL has to carry around a pair of Katar.

Though the stumeset looks cool w/Fury claws...

Things to remember:
-Common sense ain't;
-Overkill is the only kill;
-If someone asks if you're a god, run away.

I would kill if I could get the option to use basic patterns in glowing colours, even if it's just a few patterns. As long as I can apply them as fluorescent paint over other costumes, I'll be happy.

good point sam.

in a comic sense, nearly all the costume bits we've gotten lately hail from the "grim n' gritty" early 90's era, with a little animech flavor. They're technically well executed and impressive, but they're largely 'samey same' as far as look and feel goes. And this is coming from a happy purchaser of nearly all the boosters.

I'd like to see a lot more options representing other historic eras, like the fun, goofy vibe of the golden age and some sleek, four color silver age offerings.

Maybe that could be the new direction for the booster packs- Silver Age, Golden Age, more mood than specifics.

No, Sam, you are not the only one.

Beyond that: David, if you're reading this, can you PLEEEASE see about giving us the ability to use basic patterns that glow like this? Please? I would KILL to have the ability to use, say, Isles or Tribal and make it glow. Please?

And, finally, the glowing eyes head (Organic Armour head) - can we have either a more human, cleaner version of that face, and/or a version of the Glowing Eyes head with eyes that actually glow?
I'd rather be able to apply it to any head.

Looking at this for once I will not buy a Booster Pack. This just is like ho hum nothing great nothing that makes me think or feel that it is Mutant.

Very disappointed in this.

I dig 'em both however kinda surprised by the disconnect between players saying "we want/ need animal bodies for SBP:V" versus what we finally end up getting (which I do like but its not at all what I expected). How'd everyone on both sides of the coin get the final product so wrong?

Objective: No new heads for Monstrous, no new tails. The Options to make various parts "glow" not seeing it. Heels on basic foot from a mutation? That doesn't work. Foot hands, hooves or paws are legitimate mutations. The glowing eyes on the Organic Armour face nicely done better than Supernatural face 11. Skin texture is too smooth for Organic Armour face maybe a little rougher, birch bark like.

Please!

Also tribal patterns, Isles, etc with the glow map options would be perfection.

This has always been one of my biggest complaints about the costume system... not just for this set, but for LOTS of costume sets. Sets all over the place have these seams with different colors that just look bad if you're trying for a continuous look for the costume.

It seems like this Mutant booster pack highlights the undercurrent problem all of the boosters have. Each origin can be defined in many ways by many people, yet by their nature they have to be narrowed down to such a small range that a lot of people will be disappointed by the direction taken. We saw it with Tech and its focus on cyborgs, saw it again with Natural and its focus on ninjas, Magic with the wizards, and now even more so with Mutants.

This is definitely something that the Devs will be "damned if they do and damned if they don't."

Those of you that have posted screenshots of characters using the new pieces: Very nice. They all look awesome.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.

Well, there is a solution to this - have better naming for your bonus packs. So far, we've had this problem nearly every time. The Cyborg pack was actually an android pack, the Natural pack was actually a Ninja pack and now the Mutation pack is actually a Prototype pack. While I have no problem with what the packs have (aside from the more minor comments), the naming issue still remains. I mean, think about it - if they released a Ninja Pack or an Android pack, would anyone actually complain they didn't get what was advertised?

The lessons to learn here are two-fold:

1. Try to name your packs as close to what they will have as you can. If you have a pack that includes, say, lots of plant details like vines, roots and flowers, then call it Super Booster: Plants, rather than Super Booster: Nature. It doesn't sound as impressive, but it tells us what is in there.

2. Always give previews of the packs. Let people see what's in them, let them play around with the costumes and THEN set it out for purchase. That way no-one gets to complain "I bought it and it's not what you said it was!" You had the option to see what it was before buying it.

I think the only piece i can actually see myself using are the organic thorn gloves and thats it really...

The rest of the pieces are so limited into how you can actually use them and not make them look out of place its not worth trying.

I think if they are going to make a demon pack they need to sort out the annoying squeeling pigs as well because having a squeel every 2s at BM is getting really irritating...

Also why do all these booster packs have only sword customisation pieces and never guns or bows? Three packs now have had swords in them but none have had guns or bows in them...
Valkyrie, ninja and now mutant pack all have swords, I really feel that if your going to give demons more options, then you should probably make a dual pistols one as well because I'm guessing the reason for the demon pack was to promote GR's demon summoning even more so why not promote your other currently available set as well?

Something along the lines of this:

Just fiddling around and noticed the two new faces are not included in the special helmet section. I hope that this was just a slight oversight because of the fact it is not a general section. Could you please add the two new faces to this section?

Broad categories like 'Mutant' and 'Natural' mean different things to different people, and a term like 'mutant' is especially open-ended because it can refer to literally ANY deviation from the norm. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 20 distinct aesthetic directions that fit the parameters of 'mutant,' and to truly cover the entire spectrum in one Super Booster is impossible. Nonetheless, having done packs inspired by all the other origins previously, it made sense to continue the tradition and do a Mutant Pack now.

Does this set cover EVERY flavor of 'mutant?' Of course not. Was it intended to? No. Does it hit categories previously missing from the game? Definitely, and it's fun to see all the different ways you guys are finding to use the new pieces. Are we excited about this Pack? Heck, yes.

There will of course be more Super Boosters, and if you want to weigh in on that topic, head over to the All Things Art: Super Boosters thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...86#post2944686

That's the plan. Now that the Origins have been covered, Super Booster names will definitely become more specific.

Dude, that's what Beta's for. Before the actual release, there will of course be plenty of preview material. Remember that you guys are seeing this stuff well in advance of that. But I think your points are well taken.

David, if you mean people should log onto test to actually try the parts, then you do realise that the EU players cant, due to Closed Beta for GR occupying are one and only active test server? I know we'd love to test them (and get jump up and down on any bugs we find) but we cant...saying otherwise is kinda...well, yeah =/

I realize that, but I don't have any control over it. Wish you all had access, sincerely.

In a jokey way, I meant that this Beta should be looked at as a preview before the actual release; the set's not being launched unannounced.

not to get off subject too bad, but here is one very bright Idear...

Base Building Booster pack which includes:

an offline standalone base editor that allows for creation, with save/upload features.

new base editing tools <think Z axis, cut/paste multi select save/load obj, undo button>

A new power that allows access to "sg storage devices"

I would buy it.

now off to test new shiny.
