Super Booster V - Mutant Theme Costume Sets: Feedback
This has always been one of my biggest complaints about the costume system... not just for this set, but for LOTS of costume sets. Sets all over the place have these seams with different colors that just look bad if you're trying for a continuous look for the costume.

This would seem a good way to get a lowly minion familiar with how to manipulate the basics of the costume engine.
Dude, that's what Beta's for. Before the actual release, there will of course be plenty of preview material. Remember that you guys are seeing this stuff well in advance of that. But I think your points are well taken.

David, if you mean people should log onto test to actually try the parts, then you do realise that the EU players cant, due to Closed Beta for GR occupying are one and only active test server? I know we'd love to test them (and get jump up and down on any bugs we find) but we cant...saying otherwise is kinda...well, yeah =/
|
I didn't beta the Natural Pack, but I had a very good idea of what was in it before I purchased.
Alpha, we know you're not happy that EU Test is being used for GR, but we really don't need to hear you complain about it multiple times (and on multiple threads). I like you, but it's getting that "broken record" quality.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I'm sure it has been mentioned, but it bears repeating that the Organic armor heads on the male and huge builds won't take detail coloring like the female does. The inability to modify that color to coincide with the rest of the color scheme does interrupt the design process. No sign of new monster heads or tails, just new faces. Otherwise what we've seen so far looks great.
I'm glad the Monsterous glove topic has come up in this thread, let me expand it a little further... I made a toon with claws because the look fit what I wanted... A lot of the sets inlcude the Monsterous option (for some odd reason vanguard gloves do not) I love the look of the VG gloves but I can't use them on this particular toon because they have the normal hands, and that changes the look of the toon. I know to some people this is not a big deal "just find a gloves that do fit" but for me continuity is big, and the more options I have the better...
The question I have is... If something like adding the Monsterous option to these two new sets is a consensus, and people like me want it, can it, or will it be added to the product that has already been created?
In other words, will our feedback be it possitive or negitive affect what is to be released in the mutant booster pack?
It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...
I think the only piece i can actually see myself using are the organic thorn gloves and thats it really...
The rest of the pieces are so limited into how you can actually use them and not make them look out of place its not worth trying. I think if they are going to make a demon pack they need to sort out the annoying squeeling pigs as well because having a squeel every 2s at BM is getting really irritating... |

The organic armor reminds me of witchblade; a great costume piece for women, but not that appealing for a male costume.
I would really like some more bestial heads & bodies; for the animal mutants. Less human-like Cat, Turtle &/or Chameleon (interesting stealth possibility w/ chameleon costume), Fish, etc..
Having the sliders effect the shape of the head more would be good too. e.g. the dog & lizard head all look pretty much the same. Not much difference from a short to long snout or wide & skinny face. On human heads that's fine because there isn't a lot of difference (same species) & there are so many other possibilities w/ the rest of the costume. It would also help bridge the gap between human/animal mutants.
However, on mutants & animals the range should be wider imo; so everyone doesn't feel like a cookie cutter copy. Having the ability to have a bestial body & layer on clothes/costume would also be great.
A bestial running power akin to ninja run would also be excellent, though w/ slightly different properties & a much different animation (maybe something in-between a gorilla run & a dog run/gallop).

Well, Evilanna, who is a demon, now has a new costume to equip! Yay! I'm very excited for the cool new pieces in this pack.
At the same time, I wish there weren't any booster packs. The trend in the MMO industry is to try to nickel and dime players as much as possible. It used to be that $15 a month was all that was needed to enjoy a good MMO, but now it seems that they constantly want you to buy, buy, buy.
I don't think City of Heroes has passed the thin line between "profit" and "greed" quite yet, but I'm worried that that line will be crossed eventually.

Well, there is a solution to this - have better naming for your bonus packs. So far, we've had this problem nearly every time. The Cyborg pack was actually an android pack, the Natural pack was actually a Ninja pack and now the Mutation pack is actually a Prototype pack. While I have no problem with what the packs have (aside from the more minor comments), the naming issue still remains. I mean, think about it - if they released a Ninja Pack or an Android pack, would anyone actually complain they didn't get what was advertised?
|
Similarly the "prototype" suggestion only covers one of the two costumes, refers to a copyrighted video game character, and ignores the similarities to a far more established comic character who looked far more similar, witchblade.
As for the tech, terms like robot, android and cyborg are largely used interchangeably. android in fact would be a gender specific designation, with the female being gynoid, and would really have given no more real description of the appearance than any of the other terms.
so honestly, the whole concept of the specific names really would have been no less misleading than the ones that were used.

And TechBot - I understand your frustration, but let's hope your Test server is not busy for the next Booster Pack. Sincerely.

I realize that, but I don't have any control over it. Wish you all had access, sincerely.
In a jokey way, I meant that this Beta should be looked at as a preview before the actual release; the set's not being launched unannounced. |
That way people can preview all the pieces themselves, making an informed descision on if they want it or not. And, you get more impulse buys
Obviously, also add a toggle to the Costume screen so that you can opt not to show items you don't own, so people who feel its intrusive can opt out.
But, I know thats more programming/UI stuff rather than your area.
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Really what you should do is have all the booster costume pieces in the creator for everyone, but only allow those who bought the pack to make a character with them. Have a little info box pop up when someone selects a piece they don't own yet, explaining what Pack its part of, and what else comes with it, with a button taking you to ingame store (the one where you buy respecs etc...) where you can buy it.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Human-animal Hybrids, in most cases, are NOT mutants. If you were to go through the character roster for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for example, you would find that the vast majority were Science, a couple were Magic, and one or two (like Usagi Yojimbo) were Natural. But none of the "mutant animals" were actual mutants in CoH terms.
|
David, would you consider adding (now or later, tied to the Mutant Pack or not, whichever) an alternate version of the Bioluminescent face with the big glowing eyes but an otherwise mostly-normal-human face? My wife and I have a couple of characters that could really benefit from those eyes... but the rest of the head, especially the mouth, doesn't work for them at all. Such a piece would, I think, notably increase the "mix and match" potential of the set.
|
Wrong. Its in anything non human.
This guy? He's an anthropomorphic personifcation. 'Death' is a thing, not a being. But humans took it and made it a him, and gave him, along with other things we put names to (War, Pestilince, Famine, to name but a few) and anthropomorphisised them. 'Furry' is a nickname given to animal based anthromorphs, and usually used as a term of insult to anyone who happens to like that sort of thing. Which just shows humans are, deep down, a bunch of - [RANT CENSORED] |

Can we get the Bio Lighting as an Aura Option? So if we want to make it EVEN BRIGHTER/Mash colors/use it other places we could?

Okay...first off...not what I was expecting. And part of that is really, a big let down.
I have NO DOUBT, a varied assortment of concepts can be made with these new costume sets. I also have NO DOUBT, that what we'll be seeing is a A LOT OF DEMONS. :/
They're really nicely done however. I have an idea for the outfits already.
That's said...
Organic Armor, I just love the look of it when not set Organic Armor Decal. Black base, with a color glow...love it. Want me to LOVE IT? Make a version where it doesn't have the reptile scales to it. The little indents/cracks...put in some putty and smooth it out (as an option of course).
Bio Lumunious...hmmm...yeah...sadly...it (to me) feels like...more nekkid heroes! If you could do a tights version with just the stripes. It wouldn't be to bad, I guess, but as it is, it just looks like more excuses to go around with the naked toons. *shrug*
Which when the excuse for not having the animal parts seeming to be a lot of "does it fit with the theme of CoH" I have to ask, is the theme of CoH "heroes running around with no clothes on"?
Again. It's awesome looking. I was just expecting so much different. Total lack of a fox tail was also a MAJOR let down.

I'm buying this booster pack asap.
I think it needs everything everyone else wants, tails, etc...
for me, its got all I would use, so I am good to go.
edit: another reason to buy the pack... supporting the life of the game.
