I wonder if there is any point in keeping my account active, I mean it's looking increasingly likely they are just going to shut up shop in Europe, while flipping us the figurative bird.
there are many people that are ready to jump ship NOT over to NA side but to a different MMO altogether. and i think this just minght push a few people to do that there already on edge and i myself am seriously considering doing the same.

Thanks for the post Avatea first off, its nice to see that its been recognised that the EU servers aren't exactly chuffed with the announcement. Can we have a few direct questions put forward that might relieve some of the pressure.

TsumijuZero: Nothing bought for the NA game version works for the EU game version. The NA codes can't be applied to EU accounts. I've had this experience when the Magic pack came out and I bought 2 NA codes... fortunately, Support was able to solve the problem and refund me. So no for your first question.
Orion_Star_EU: no, that wouldn't be fair on the people that are paying to acquire the game via GameStop. Or to the NA players who have already prepurchased and won't be given access to the perks as well. The only viable option is to offer this as a separate booster, purchasable by both NA and EU.
Avatea: Thanks for the post Avatea. It was pretty much what I was expecting and what I'm getting used to: more deflection and again asking us to wait for a possible solution that might come and won't really come.
I know what you can say is heavily constrained by what Marketing deems to be made available to the general public. Could a Marketing rep for the EU region come here and actually be more forthcoming? Or is there anything even remotely like a EU Marketing rep any more?
Getting real tired of the "We are sorry, we acknowledge your concerns, there's nothing we can do, but we'll pass it along/look into it" shtick really...
Oh dang, and here I was thinking I wouldn't rant about this any more.
Sorry all.
Thank you for at least acknowledging some our posts Avatea.
Like I said over there I think its a good idea to have pre-order bonuses and I actually like the look of enhancements.
The bee thats in my bonet is that developer time has been used to create content for the game that the EU servers don't even have the potential of getting and thus creating a difference between the NA/EU games.
I just think its a bad prescident to set.

*Concerned EU player* --><-- *What happens when our concerns are addressed*
Pretty much sums up how I feel about this whole situation.
I just know that our server technology doesn't support the merging of any kind of server list. We would have merged Training Rooms for Betas for instance if we were able to. I'm not saying it's never going to happen though.

I'll let it be said that yes, I'm glad we do have communication on this issue, unlike the period of chaos when the layoffs were announced at NCSoft Europe.
I know some people might think we're whiners, or paranoid, or needy, but:
We already know NC Soft will shut down titles/branches that don't perform well. (Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Dungeon Runners, City of Hero (KR)).
We also know that NC Soft company policy seems to be toe the line and say everything is fine, it's not going to close down, and then close it down. After a swathe of new improvements too. (Tabula Rasa.)
We already have differences in services offered by the game. GM's restoring Deleted Characters (funny story there), different protocols for testing, server community acknowledgement (Gemini Park badge in GC for the Virtue meets), and a greater con presence due to logistics and proximity, but nothing made of getting the EU community a form of meet.
I suggested when they announced the meet and greet dates that while yes, it is hard to organize something in another country, they could easily arrange a virtual meet and greet on the EU test servers.
As for that funny story? Way back, way, way back this must have been Issue 4's launch time, I had a little level 18 blaster that I messed the build up, being still quite new to the game. I'd heard that we may be getting a freespec with issue 4, but Statesman himself made a post saying that there'd be no freespec with Issue 4. Now, I'm a glacial slow leveller at the best of times, so I thought 'Dang, I'll just have to remake.'
Few days later, Issue 4 hits, along with a freespec. For the 1st year anniversary. No chance of getting the character undeleted, and even if I could, I bet I'd have not gotten that freespec anyway. Told it wasn't possible. When some time later I heard of character recovery over on the US side? Well, yeah, that was a little annoying.
Anyway, that remade blaster is now level 40, 5 years later. Glaaacial.
Over the years my stance has shifted from being anti-server merge, to pro-server list merge, and I think around this point I'd even be pro server merge. I even thought it'd be one of the things coming with Going Rogue. Wouldn't mind that much having to have an EU by my name, or sticking a . at the end of my character names so I could get the ones I built the concept around.
And coming from a roleplayer? That dot means a lot.
Then let me convert my EU account into a NA account, with all my retail codes and veteran time intact; stick all my characters in limbo and give me a transfer token for each one.
or Let me transfer characters between my EU & NA accounts under the same Master Account - NA players transferred to the EU servers in the past, so this must be technically possible, surely? or Give everyone with a EU account a free NA account on the same NCSoft Master Account and make Vet rewards apply to Master Accounts - heck give everyone with an NA account a free EU one too. or Something else, anything. Just please stop ignoring the problem until all the EU players have gone. |
This. The third option would be good, give us the option of paying one fee and gaining access to both sides of the pond, an Account merger rather than a server list one.
EU to US transfers would also be great. |
Still not perfect though, badgers in particular wouldn't be happy having to redo all their characters and not being able to get hold of the anniversary badges again.
I still maintain the best answer was the one someone else had earlier. Add 4 new servers to the US list, call them the same names and do a blanket copy of everything that's on the EU servers. Then close the EU ones down. As the meerkat says, simples. That way, no one loses any access, badges, accounts, anything. The ONLY issue I can see is in a globla name conflict and that can be sorted with either a rename or a EU adding to the end of it. Give players the choice. I can't even see it affecting the RP players either as my understanding is that it's the toon that they RP, not the account. Hell, I'd even be happy to have a few days/a week off from the game while they implement it. Ideally, it shouldn't take too long as it's just a transfer of data which they can obviously access already, but even if they needed to transfer the dtata physically, I'd be happy to wait! Come on, people, you know it makes sense! ![]() |
Well, at least they're one thing that's said here : something needs to be done.
The more we see things going one between EU vs NA, the more I thing Avatea got to be one of the only at Paragon Studios that knows there are EU players in CoH, and some of them are even french and german!
I can't deny that War Witch also tries to do things for us, but obviously, as she said, everything's not in her power, and most of the choices that we find unfair weren't made by her.
But seriously, as much as I thank Avatea for everything that she does for the EU community (and as a french/Vigilance player, I can tell that she also tries to do much for us), I think we're almost invisible when decision has to be made.
I mean, did developpers, especially those responsible for "servers", ever try playing on Vigilance or Zukunft? Do they have any idea of the average population on those servers? If so, why do they tolerate status quo?
Even if community team tries to tell us that "we are not abandonned", and that you "try to do things for us", action speaks louder than words, and actually, action doesn't speak that much on EU side those days...
Like I said at the beginning of this post, almost everyone says that "things need to be done", speaking of server list merge, account transfer, etc...
Ghost Falcon said in the last GR video, that they have "the best community in the MMO world, and we listen to them".
Prove us that you do listen to us. Prove us that EU is something for you. Do someting.
There was quite a lengthy discussion during the Union Chat late-last night in regards to merging server lists, and allowing mass-transfer of characters to the North American servers as various European players are getting rather cheesed off with the current state Europe is being treated, and the state the server is being treated with too.
Now, I was wanting to get heavily involved with that discussion, but I was trapped in healing for Statesman TF!, Anyway. The general gist of it is that everyone was angry and demanding that they all make a petition to merge the servers (way to clog up Customer resources btw....)
And the most sensible thing of it was, (the guys failed to understand this) this game engine is now 6 years old. Ultra Mode took a very long time to create and is squeezing the Game Engine(in my personal opinion). The Passport system allowed characters to be transfered, yes. However for something such as a mass-transfer system, or a mass-server merge.
This would require heavy resource-input, and even if it is possible for a game engine that is 6 years old, it would be very time consuming.
People think that the servers would be more instant and non-laggy. However if they are lagging in Germany. Just think how laggy they will become in USA?.
All in all, the best thing for them to do is to committ more into marketing for europe sector, however as Avatea has said this has not come to fruitition or they have not had offers for such opportunitys.
The engine limits the amount they can do in terms of a server merge, or a mass-player transfer system. They could bring back the Passport system and reverse it so that EU can go into NA however the amount of players who seem to be wanting to transfer would create even more stress on things.
It's a very hard issue to resolve. People are expecting things instantly, and that just will never happen. Time needs to be taken, Resources have just been placed into Ultra Mode and are now into Going Rogue.
They will get around to it, when resources and time and mechanics allow them to get around to it.
EDIT: In My Opinion......
All I'm hearing is this
It's gotten old now, please don't even bother to post here dev's unless you actually put some thought into your posts beyond "Generic statement to keep them happy".
I know some of you really do try, but every post like this is almost as insulting as not getting an answer. I feel no sincerity in the "We are looking for solutions" or "We'll pass your concerns on"

The backbone between the US and the UK is better than the one between the UK and Europe. People at the moment who live in the EU and play on the US servers have noted in the past that they've had less lag, simply because the route is better.
The server transfer would probably be done in server down time, and it'd be a database thing, thus not impacting on the client's performance. If they added a couple of servers to the US list, there wouldn't be a sudden degradation of framerates and so on. Probably just an extended maintenance. Comics have never been as big in the EU as they have in the US. This is one of the issues I find that marketing had over here. To a lot of people, comics were more the Beano, Dandy, that sort. |

There's one place I think that sells comics near to where I live, but I'm not sure on that. The only comic book store I go to with any regularity is Mega City Comics in Camden Town, London. Forbidden Planet have a few stores about last I heard, but... well, if their comics are anything as expensive as their anime, it's a real hole-burner in the wallet.
I have to agree with Neutronic Girl with regards to the plausability of merging the two server lists and the constraints with the connections. We do have better EU connections than if we were playing NA, citing my own experiences of rubbish connections when trying to play well anything online with anyone other than EU based servers.
With regards to my earlier questions, thanks for reminding me about the difference in codes, but it would still be a nice step if there could at least be some acknowledgement that if someone EU side did purchase that pack, that they would honor an EU equivalent of that same code. That at least would be a step in the right direction.
