Have fun and enjoy the game.

If you are looking for information you'll find much in the various subsections of our forums.
Another great source of information is here: http://www.cohtitan.com/

Thank for the website! Really helpful and just wondering if there's a beginner friendly class and is there a limit to how many characters you can make?

Welcome to the game! You'll have 12 character slots per server, and you can get more over time.

There are 12 character available per server, and you can buy 24 more. With 11 servers, that's a possible 396 characters.

Edit: Beat me to the punch!

Scrappers and Blasters (Heroes) and Brutes (Villains) are probably the simplest to learn how to play. You start with 12 character slots per server, and you can purchase more, up to 36 per server (that's including the 12 you start with). You also get a free character slot token for every year you've had an active subscription.

Welcome aboard, I hope you enjoy yourself here.

We were all new once so any questions you have, don't be afraid to ask them. This really is one of the best game communities on the internet and you'll find plenty of people willing to be supportive of new players.

Welcome, you will have a great time here. Don't worry about making mistakes, we all done that.
A few tips when you start playing, skip the AE contact for a bit. There is a lot more out there than that and you will learn more about how the game works. There are tons of zones that you can visit.
When you out level atlas ( or galaxy) look for the T on your map, that the tram that can move you to a new zone ( go to Kings Row). There find your police contact. Get the scanner.
If you are starting on vill side look for the F on your map. That the ferry, works just like the tram. For villains you want the broker.
Click on all npcs that have a circle around their feet, read what they have to say. They will clue you in to what you can do in game.
Finally if you don't know something ask in chat, someone will gladly help you. If not just ask here in the forums.
Good hunting have fun.

Ps. Don't feel that you have to rush to level 50. This game is about the trip, not the destination.

also, this game is fairly casual friendly, so there arent really "mistakes" you may find that a particular powerset doesnt agree with your playstyle, sure, but nobody is going to kick you for not having a predetermined amount of dps. but most of us have a good number of alts, i have over 60 myself and am considered fairly mild by comparison to some. you will find that even within classes, an electric scrapper and a dual blades scrapper feel fairly distinct..and that's without even discussing the secondaries, so play around and find what makes you happy, and dont be afraid to ask, some of us have been here forever and like answering questions.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes and advice it should help alot but for some reason right now my game isn't working so i filled out a support ticket and now I'm reinstalling it so i hope to be in game soon!

*EDIT* and just wondering if anyone else bought there game through steam and had any trouble with it

Welcome! The melee classes are very beginner friendly in this game, with Scrappers and Tanks probably being the easiest to play. Brutes are very potent, but do require a bit more knowledge than the other two classes to be played optimally.

I'd recommend picking one of the servers with a higher population, such as Freedom, Virtue, or Infinity(?). Anyone know if there is a server that's particularly beginner friendly?

To quote Adam Savage: Well, there's your problem! You won't find many here who bought the game through Steam, so your best bet is to just work with Customer Support. The CS guys here, especially Tech Support, are really cool and will go out of their way to have your problems sorted. In general, though, if you have non-crippling technical problems, you can always try with player help first by posting in the Technical Issues & Bugs forum.

As far as what to play, take people's advice. Scrappers hero-side and Brutes villain-side are the easiest to play and learn. I'd steer clear of Blasters for a while, though, at least until you get a good grip of some of the finer points of gameplay, because they're liable to get you killed if you so much as slip up and take a certain degree of situational awareness to play right that is just unfair to ask from a new player.

Don't be afraid to experiment and make new characters. Don't be afraid to take power that look cool. It's very hard to make a broken character here. Just make sure you focus on your primary and secondary powerset (as in, don't neglect them) and you should be fine.

It's probably wise to let you get your game running before swamping you with more advice you won't be able to apply at the moment, so let us know when you can log in and we'll swamp you some more

Just DL the trial version from the site, install that and update it to the current build and then log in normally... You don't have to go through steam to do it.

A few notes about Servers and sizes thereof.

Firstly, Infinity is no longer in the top 3 as far as I can tell. Lately the top 5 servers in population have been a lot more fluid, but Freedom and Virtue are still solidly at the top. Justice has waned slightly too, but it is clearly bigger than Infinity (at least as far as I can tell).

Secondly, about a "newb friendly" server? I don't think there is one specifically. However, if your attitude is right it could be any server there is (except probably Freedumb). As long as the OP is as friendly and nice in-game as we have seen here, he/she shouldn't have a single problem. Asking questions as opposed to demanding info will get you far. In fact, I just gfriended a new player in-game, being careful to add appropriate stars and the note: "New, but very willing to learn, fun, and asks all the right questions." To me, it is all about how you ask and what you ask that matters. Say, for instance, you don't really know what to do as a Corruptor. Asking, "can you suggest some good powers I should take as a Corruptor?" is far better than saying: "Tell me how the h*** ya make dis s*** work!!?!"

To the OP:
IMO, server size seems to be inversely proportional to nice players, and directly proportional to jerks and morons. The best bet, as far as I would ever recommend to a new player, is to start on a server that is more middle of the road... and then one can adjust to a bigger server or smaller server as desired. Sooooo, hit up Justice, Infinity or maybe Champion?
