I met Posi once ingame.
It was March 2004, there was only a single server and you were still able to fly to the highest roofs in Atlas Park. I had managed to get to level 36 with my Storm/Energy Defender and word got out that level bumps were given (ok, I admit that 2 or 3 of these levels were powerleveled: tank taunts/pulls the whole map and nukers nuke them when they're herded into a corner ... plus Freezing Rain debuffed damage resistence into negative numbers when slotted with damage enhancements - nice bug, Stormies were never that popular again).
Posi was on a charcater named Nortisop (clever name, eh?). Some other players and I managed to catch him in Brickstown. He made us stand in line at the main entrance to the ziggurat and started to hand out level bumps and prestige (so people could buy enhancements - SOs were expensive those days). Another player and I were told to line up to his left and wait there ... we were in our 30s while all the others were significantly lower and he wanted to do them first. I think level bumping and handing out prestige was harder that most people thought as it took quite a while to get one character done. Then again, maybe it was just because I had to wait. I really wanted that bump because some people decided to try and defeat the Hamidon and asked me to come. But you had to be level 38 to enter The Hive so I needed that bump as there were no time to get those 2 levels another way.
Finally Posi finished the last of those other players. Finally it was our turn ... patience was about about to be rewarded. And Posi left.Completely forgetting those two poor players he told to wait at the side.
We tried to beg (the other player sent a tell) but it seemed Posi was out of time and he logged off moments later. I missed the Hamidon that day.
I was disappointed, of course. But I told myself that he probably had more important things to do. He was a Dev after all while I was free to explore the game world and have fun. And not so long after, the Devs started a big event with someone flying a giant Rikti saucer above city zones while spawning massive numbers of bosses. I helped to make a stand in Talos (tons of Hydra bosses) and in Founders Falls (Rikti armies) - still have the screenshots to prove it.That was the best CoH event ever (and I really wonder why they never used that ultra cool saucer again). And since Posi had part in creating the game and running the show I couldn't really be angry with him. I simply had too much fun playing his game ... our game ... my game.
May the road rise to meet you. - May the wind be always at your back. - May the sun shine warm upon your face. - And rains fall soft upon your fields. - And until we meet again, - May God hold you in the hollow of His hand. -
The DataLink is not working (Titan Server down) and there's no DataChunk, so I won't comment (much) on the build. However, I noticed you took Hasten. You should be able to get enough +recharge for a gap less BF - Attack Vitals attack chain easy enough. Hasten is almost never needed on a DB.
Regarding Incarnate Powers I'd suggest Reactive for the Interface slot (25% debuff res chance, 75% fire DoT chance) and Rebirth in Destiny (heal + regen). Lore and Judgement is a matter of taste. Barrier might only be interesting if you somehow didn't manage to softcap your (typed) defenses. -
Confirmed.
I ran all three villain respec SFs with my Vigilante and got all three badges. -
Power Selection:
You might want to reconsider taking Nimble Slash. With Attack Vitals and Sweep most people don't use Empower and Weaken much anyway. You could take a travel power instead.
Drop Resurgence. If you want a self rez you can keep a Restoration in your inspiration tray. You could take Strength of Will instead. SoW might be situational but at least you can use it to mule a setIO from the resistance category.
Drop Hasten. It is completely superfluous on a DB/WP (you don't need much global recharge to run BF Attack Vitals gap less).
Take Leadership Maneuvers and perhaps Tactics, too. This will help to softcap defense vs. S/L.
Drop Melt Armor. It's rubbish. Seriously.
You should consider dropping Blaze Mastery and taking Body Mastery instead. Physical Perfection is a nice add on to improve endurance management and gives some extra regeneration, too.
Slotting goals:
Try to softcap defense vs. S/L (45%).
Defense vs. E/N/F/C should be in 30s range, when you reach the S/L softcap. It is possible to softcap E/N/F/C, too (Eradication is the key). But you would have to give up damage in exchange.
Boost your hitpoints. This will also help with regeneration.
Don't bother with endurance too much. With Stamina + Quick Recovery + Physical Perfection you should be good.
Enhancements:
High Pain Tolerance should be slotted with IOs from the heal category to boost HP and regeneration. Give it 3 slots total, to have enough slots for other powers.
To get to 45%+ in S/L you'll need 5 sets of Kinetic Combat. Remember that you can slot them in Brawl and Boxing/Kick, too.
You'll probably need Obliteration in one or two of your PBAoE powers.
Blinding Feint is a part in the BF - Attack Vitals chain. You should slot it like an attack, not like a buff.
The 5th Reactive Armor IO is not really worth it, imho. Better use the slot somewhere else.
No Miracle unique? It's not that expensive. Get it! 3 slots total in FH should be enough.
Slot Indomitable Will with LotG: Def/End and the +7.5% recharge. Drop the 3rd slot.
Slot RttC with 3 Numina or Miracle IOs. Do not slot it with ToHit debuff.
With QR+Stamina+PP 3 slots in QR are probably enough.
A ResKB in Tough is a wasted slot. Indomitable Will gives all the KB protection you need. You could use it as a mule for the Steadfast Protection +3% defense and/or the Gladiator's Armor +3% defense. I would give it at least 2 slots total, to improve its +res and lessen the end cost.
Drop the Def/End from Combat Jumping unless you REALLY need the extra 0.3% for your defenses (Combat Jumping already has very very low end costs). -
Before I19 and alpha slots you needed to roll a DB/Elec or DB/SR to get enough recharge to run the top attack chain if you also wanted good overall defenses (Elec and SR both have a power that gives +20% recharge). I didn't do the math for the tier2 spiritual alpha, but it seems to not be enough to replace that +20% recharge power.
DPS for the BF - Attack Vitals chain should be ok.
I had 190 DPS before I19 and have 201 DPS (with the tier2 musculature) now (DPS was calculated with Pylon kill times). -
Usually I either 4-slot with Kinetic Combat to add 3.75% Def:S/L or 2-slot with Absolute Amazement to add 4% Recovery or leave it empty.
-
I did some more testing and while I found the same problems on Test that I have on Live I saw a significant difference on Beta. So I guess there's hope. However, I couldn't find enough people to actually start a Swiss Draw on Beta so I cannot say for sure it will work.
-
Hmm... no one posted a build with soft capped defense so far, guess it's time someone does it.
Weaknesses
Dark Armor has a protection hole when it comes to protection against knockback. I slotted a Steadfast Protection: ResKB IO to offset this at level 10. It provides mag4 KB protection which is enough for most stuff in the game. Unfortunately it's not always enough. The three things that come to my mind instantly are Nemesis Staff attacks which will KB you sometimes and Diabolique and Rikti Pylons. Their attacks KB you always.
Umm... I think that's it.
Survivability is great. The RWZ Scrapper challenge was no challenge. A double RWZ Scrapper challenge was though, though. Had several Mentalists who stayed at range and really hurt. But with a 14s recharge in Dark Regeneration I made it (barely). Dark Regeneration is also a key power to survive cascading defense failure typically on an ITF run.
Unfortunately I couldn't complete a Pylon. I made noticeable progress but all the knockback hurt my DPS a lot so I finally decided to abandon the attempt.
Damage is ok. Recharge is high enough to use Impale Ripper Lunge as a ST attack chain. I was worried that slotting Impale with Enfeebled Operation would hurt my ST too much but I didn't really notice a big difference compared to SO damage slotting. Actually I was surprised how good the overall ST performance is in this build (mostly thanks to Ripper). AoE damage is ok, too. But it's not as great as I hoped for. When I teamed with an Elec/Shield it was painfully obvious that I was only on second place when it came to AoE goodness. He was first (and third).
Endurance management was sometimes a problem while leveling up. But with blue inspirations it's more than ok. I would suggest to take Recovery Serum, too. This is one of the new temp powers. You can buy it really cheap from the market. It has 5 charges and gives +100% recovery for 4 min.
When the build was completed endurance issues were a thing of the past. I have to activate Conserve Power now and then when I use Spine Burst and Throw Spines often, but I never run out of end anymore.
One last thing before I post the build. Some will notice that Tough is deactivated. This is not a mistake. I didn't need it for my survivabilty but I really needed the end, so I decided to only use it as a mule for that GladArmor: +3% Def.

Nice work. Well written and giving good advice. Plus I like the colors you selected for the headlines.
There are some minor things I'd like to comment on..
Quote:If the question is should I put one KB protection enhancer in Steamy Mist? my answer would be only if you really have no other place you could use - similar to what you said.Should I put KB Protection enhancer in Steamy Mist?
If the question is should I put two (!) KB protection enhancers in Steamy Mist? my answer would be no maybe even NO!
Mag 4 KB protection is usually all you need. In the rare cases where mag 4 isn't enough mag 8 typically isn't enough either. Mag 12 KB protection seems to make a difference again, but you need three enhancers for it and better have the slots (it's a nice byproduct if you slot BotZ for ranged and AoE defense, though).
Quote:Should I slot the Luck of The Gambler: Defense/Increased Global Recharge Speed?
Quote:What about Impervium Armor: +Psionic Resistance, Kismet: Increased to Hit, Shield Wall: TP Protection, Resist(All)?

Quote:I hope you slotted it into a toggle power you plan to use.I just slotted Aegis Psi/Mez Resist, and (after confirming that it does work as a global bonus, and is on even when the power isn't), I don't see the mez resist portion showing up in my combat attributes (just the text "aegis: psionic/status resistance" under damage resistance)
So, is the Mez portion working, or just not showing up? (or will I have to run trials with a stopwatch to find out?)
The Psi resist portion of Aegis Psi/Mez resist is global. The Mez resist portion works like a proc, though. So you need to have this IO in an auto power or in a toggle to get the Mez resist from it. Paragon Wiki is a wonderful site, but unfortunately the entry for this IO is not 100% accurate. -
I fully agree with this. This is important information. I would prefer to know in advance that I'll loose my stuff if I store it beyond a certain limit instead of being saved by general mistrust in the abilities of the people responsible for the creation and implementation of this feature.

Someone from my SG told us yesterday about the recent loss of several eMails with HOs attached.
Last time we had problems with vanishing ingame eMails it was either the "double quote bug" that was fixed (well, lets say it's supposed to be fixed) or a problem tied to global chat that I think was not fixed. It seems ingame eMails are lost, when global chat dies. Here's a thread from 05-02-2010 discussing this: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=220122 (this is the most recent thread about lost eMails that I could find). -
Quote:No, you are are right. I used the old market regularly and it was never as ridiculous as it's now. Not even close. Some of these behaviors may have been present in the old interface, but they were nowhere near as severe as they are now. Further, I never ran into the issue where I would drag a piece of salvage into the window and it would throw it back out before. No way, no how.
Granted, I could just be forgetting. (I am not gifted with flawless memory.) -

) If you use it as a starting point you should try to add more recovery and more global accuracy. If you have Ninja Run and are comfortable with using it as your main travel power you could skip Super Jump and take Physical Perfection and either Conserve Power or Focused Accuracy from Body Mastery.

1. If I'm not mistaken my last L50 needed ~400 hours of casual play (no PLing, some TFs, often had "rested xp").
2. With the supersidekicking feature it's easier than ever to exemplar down, so there's always stuff you can do. However, there's almost zero end game content. The devs work on this but it will take some time. GR is supposed to introduce the first level of the new Incarnate system which is at least part of the new end game content.
3. Not good.
4. No, but I would prefer a more populated server like Virtue.
5. Currently we're still experiencing problems that came with I17. It seems that the more populated servers (Virtue and Freedom) are a lot more fragile than they used to be. The market was "improved" like they "improved" PvP a while ago - but this is in part opinion, of course (and PvP got hit harder). Plus some bugs here and there.
If you come back I would recommend to start with monthly paying. -
Quote:On older computers, like my old PC, it's not technically possible to enlarge the interface to see all transactions at once, if you have more than a few transactions. Even on newer computers it's not possible to enlarge the interface to see all transactions (if you have more than some), at least not on a resolution of 1920x1080.Enlarge the interface so you can see all your transactions at once and then work in the all transactions section. Problem solved
Hmm... I assume you know about the resolution problem so you probably just meant that maximizing the interface window will minimize the need to use the scrollbar.
However, my personal opinion on the "all" section is not positive. It is possible to "work" in this section, but it was deliberately made harder compared to the old UI by needlessly throwing the color coding over board. (To be clear: I do not think that the intend was to make it harder. But I don't believe that the color coding was removed by accident either.) And there is some risk involved. Something similar to what Organica described happened to me once when I tried to get an item I bought while being in the "all" section. Only that I didn't accidently remove a bid but an item I tried to sell (which cost me several million inf in fees because it was a purple IO).
Yes, it will solve the problem Organica described. But you risk other problems. For me this is the choice between Scylla and Charybdis. -

Is it a bug I should report? Did they provide everyone with free tailor sessions to correct it?

I googled for the ASUS G50V-X1 and it seems it only supports Serial ATA 1.5 Gbit/s (SATA I) which means your data transfer rate is limited to 150 MByte/s in either direction. It is possible to connect a SATA II SSD on SATA I, though.
TRIM is only supported under specific conditions. Auto-TRIM needs Win7. Manual TRIM is possible with WinXP/Vista on SSDs with the Indilinx Barefoot and Barefoot ECO controllers. Some SSDs support Garbage Collection (GC) instead.
Before you buy a new SSD you should always identify the SSD controller used.
You do NOT want a SSD with the old JMicron(602)B controller, no matter how cheap they are.
SSDs with the established Intel X-25-M G2 / Postville, Samsung RBB or the Indilinx Barefooot and Barefoot ECO controllers are good.
Then there are the new controllers. I would be careful with the JMicron 612 / 618 and the Marvell controllers. The SandForce controller seems to be solid, though.
If you had SATA II I probably would suggest the new SandForce controller (SF-LE seems to be very interesting atm as it's a mix between the SF-1200 and SF-1500 but being sold for less than the SF-1200) but your SSD will be slowed down to SATA I speed. I think you should check out the Barefoot ECO controller. It's a bit slower than the other controllers but it is cheaper, too. It is said that OCZ and Super Talent work closely with Indilinx and offer new firmware versions regularly, so I would take one of their SSDs, if possible.
Check out these SSDs:
Super Talent UltraDrive GX2 (Barefoot ECO controller)
OCZ Agility (Barefoot controller but uses cheaper and slower flash memory) -
Sometimes I'm under the impression that they hired him to work on the market UI and some other things:

We are probably talking about the ASUS AI Suite. This should allow you to launch several other utilities easily - like ASUS Fan Expert and CPU Level Up - and it should provide you with some system information (CPU temperature, CPU voltage, CPU/FSB frequency and more). On my PC I deinstalled it after checking it out. It seemed to be redundant with PC Probe II (which is better for monitoring the system imho) and TurboV EVO (which is far more advanced for OCing). All the utilities are optional anyway. However, your friends claim about the usage of HDD space seems to be a bit exaggerated. ASUS AI Suite uses ~20 MB. I'd say that's close to nothing on a modern terabyte HDD.

Quote:If you have a secure plot than whoever created your base already knows how. Ask him! Or find it out yourself. If you enter your base (and have editing rights) you should be able to find out how with minimal usage of your brain ... oh, wait ... I'm beginning to see the problem.so from someones email i hear you can make your sg smaller
How?
Not subtracting rooms
but how do you make the plot smaller we have a secure plot. How do i make it just regular
Ok, so here's a step by step guide assuming you already have a base, like you said. This is probably not the fastest way to do it but it will work without fail.
1. Make sure you have editing rights for your base.
2. Enter your base.
3. Start clicking with the mouse pointer randomly all over your screen. You can close your eyes, if you want.
3. Wait till something happens. Eventually you will enter base editing mode. If you kept your eyes shut you have a 33% chance to end up in the right place to change your base plot.
5. Open your eyes again. Are you in base editing mode? - No? Close your eyes and continue clicking. - Yes? Is there an option to change plot size? - No? Exit base editor and go back to no.3 - Yes? Change plot size.
6. Congratulations, you managed to change the plot size of your SG base and saved your brain from undue wear off. -
Quote:1. "Base Construction" would have been a better place to start this thread. Why is base rent so much. I think bases should be free. Or at least only a little. Also bases are very expensive to make i think its unfair that people can have a totallly finished base from old prestige now that server pop is so low its like totally impossible to build an sg.
Now its another thing that i or anyone else has to farm to.
This game seems unfreindly to new players. Everything is so much influ or prestige.
Also base raids seem to be broken cause i tried to do one with a guy i met and it wouldnt work.
do the devs know this is messed up
2. Basic base rent is zero, null, nothing, not even 1 inf, ever. Rent is charged for certain items placed in a base.
3. "Expensive" is very relative. If you want a base with many features you have to put some effort into it. Not very much, "some" is enough.
4. I have no clue what you think is unfair and to whom. It seems as if you were unaware of a concept called "Supergroup" to which bases are tied to. But I don't want to believe that you are that ignorant, so it's probably my own lack of comprehension.
5. The claim that server population is so low that it is "totally" impossible to build a SG is 100% untrue on every CoH/CoV NA and EU server. If someone has trouble building a SG it's very often a question of ingame behavior but never one of possibility.
6. Farming is not required. Not even for a solo SG base. The easiest way to get a good base is join an existing SG with an existing SG base.
7. This game is not only not unfriendly to new players, it's actually very friendly to new players. And usually the community is too. Especially if said new players know how to behave.
8. And it has never been easier when it comes to influence/infamy. I used to transfer 2 million influence from one of my higher level characters to a new starting level character to be able to buy good enhancers (TOs, DOs, SOs - 2M was all you needed to be good all the way to level 50). These days I don't bother to transfer influence. With basic knowledge about the game and the market it's easy to make 2M++ in a very short timespan (a few hours if it's really slow). On a level 1 character! If you just play any character and list the salvage and recipes for 1 inf each on the market, you have a very high chance of ending up with 10M+ by level 20.
9. Prestige is a SG thing, see no. 4.
10. Yes, base raids are disabled. For quite some time actually. And yes, the devs know about this. And before you even ask about it, no, I will not provide you with a link of a dev quote.
