Prices for base rent
base rent seems negligible to me, but maybe that's just because I remember the 'good' old days.
I find the necessity to pay it in person at City Hall or that dumb building I can never find in CoV much more aggravating than the amount.

That said, rent IS a lot cheaper than it used to be...
On the other hand, I'd be perfectly Ok if they just dumped the rent idea
altogether, but I have no illusions about that occurring...

Why is base rent so much. I think bases should be free. Or at least only a little. Also bases are very expensive to make
|
i think its unfair that people can have a totallly finished base from old prestige now that server pop is so low its like totally impossible to build an sg.
|
This game seems unfreindly to new players. Everything is so much influ or prestige.
|
Also base raids seem to be broken cause i tried to do one with a guy i met and it wouldnt work.
|
They do know the raids are disabled. "Messed up" is very subjective.

2. Basic base rent is zero, null, nothing, not even 1 inf, ever. Rent is charged for certain items placed in a base.
3. "Expensive" is very relative. If you want a base with many features you have to put some effort into it. Not very much, "some" is enough.
4. I have no clue what you think is unfair and to whom. It seems as if you were unaware of a concept called "Supergroup" to which bases are tied to. But I don't want to believe that you are that ignorant, so it's probably my own lack of comprehension.
5. The claim that server population is so low that it is "totally" impossible to build a SG is 100% untrue on every CoH/CoV NA and EU server. If someone has trouble building a SG it's very often a question of ingame behavior but never one of possibility.
6. Farming is not required. Not even for a solo SG base. The easiest way to get a good base is join an existing SG with an existing SG base.
7. This game is not only not unfriendly to new players, it's actually very friendly to new players. And usually the community is too. Especially if said new players know how to behave.
8. And it has never been easier when it comes to influence/infamy. I used to transfer 2 million influence from one of my higher level characters to a new starting level character to be able to buy good enhancers (TOs, DOs, SOs - 2M was all you needed to be good all the way to level 50). These days I don't bother to transfer influence. With basic knowledge about the game and the market it's easy to make 2M++ in a very short timespan (a few hours if it's really slow). On a level 1 character! If you just play any character and list the salvage and recipes for 1 inf each on the market, you have a very high chance of ending up with 10M+ by level 20.
9. Prestige is a SG thing, see no. 4.
10. Yes, base raids are disabled. For quite some time actually. And yes, the devs know about this. And before you even ask about it, no, I will not provide you with a link of a dev quote.

I don't know about the rest of the people with "totally finished" bases, but we had to work for our prestige. My group has been accumulating prestige since CoV launch. Back in the days when running in SG mode resulted in earning ABSOLUTELY NO influence past level 35, and there was no market to earn inf on. We had to choose between prestige and SOs, on our villains. We also had to walk uphill, barefoot, in the snow to get to the mission.
We now have more prestige than we know what to do with, due to our insistence that everyone run in SG mode until level 25. That's about 100k prestige per alt.

If all the new players want to do is complain, then yeah, I'd see how the game might be unfriendly to them. Oh, and a forum join date in 2007 doesn't make you "new."

I just don't see any possible problem.
I have two one-person SGs with fairly elaborate bases on upgraded plots, I have an extremely restricted play schedule and I literally don't even notice it when I have to pay the rent. I run all my alts in SG mode all the time, but that's it.
It's just not that big a deal, man.

Once upon a time, my SG rent was over 240,000 prestige. Now it's 2900. And you're saying that's expensive.

Honest response: I opened this thread just after reading a thread about destroying influence intentionally to reduce the money supply and curb inflation, and from the title of this thread, assumed it would be about RAISING base rent to serve as another influence sink.
"Good idea," I thought.
No, it turns out you think it's too high.
My main SG has a moderately tricked-out base and we pay a tiny, negligible four-digit amount of prestige per month. I can make it in two radio missions. Our reserve of prestige is over 2 billion and steadily growing even though most of us have dropped out of SG mode on our higher-level characters.
If base rent were multiplied by a factor of TEN I wouldn't even notice the effect.

Short Version: You're a big group and rent works for you. I'm as small as they come and with as expensive a base as they come and it works for me too. Looks like it's working as intended.
I do agree with the goat about the annoyance factor though. I have a character parked there just to pay.

All of my group's rent has been paid for the next 30 years. I just have to pop into Atlas/PO every 6 weeks or so to remind them of it.
Let's start with rent:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Rent
this shows the difference between rent now and rent before the change. I have a dear friend whose base is 24 by 28. Under the "old" system her SG had to pay 5 million prestige a month in rent.. now they pay 2400 or 2800. The savings are significant and rent is hardly an issue. I run or help run 5 SG between COH and COV and by myself I can make enough prestige in an hour or so to pay the rent each month.
The only thing you need to have a functional base is a few good members and time. Two months ago a friend and I started a brand new SG/base on COV. We team together a lot and I have more time to play so I frequently do SFs and the ITF. in less than 60 days we went from a basic 8 by 8 plot to an 8 by 12 with teleport to all 9 zones (3 tp chambers), an Infirmary with an AutoDoc, Our Control room houses a SuperComputer (which all by itself is 500,000 to buy and place), and a 3 by 4 workshop holding an IO salvage vault, IO crafting table, 4 enhancement bins, an inspiration collector and 2 base storage racks for extra IO salvage. Oh we also have a pillar of Ice and Flame in the control room for time travel. No it doesn't happen over night but it doesn't require 150 members playing daily to build a base of any size .. just time, some effort/fun, and patience.
Now it is true that things cost here but trust me its much better than before. With Wentworths and the Black Market in place anyone can have enough to fund their character with the basics.. DOs at level 17 and SOs at 22. Now if you want a character that is completely IOed that costs but even that is doable with time and patience. As for prestige things are better there too. Under the old system a character had a choice to make at around level 33 or 35 because you either stayed in SG mode and earned prestige for your group OR you turned that off to earn Influence or Infamy. Back then you didn't get both past that level and many members stopped earning their groups prestige beyond it because they needed the INF to fund their own characters. Now its possible to earn both all the way to 50. Also at the same time that rent changed many base items , including rooms, had their cost significantly decreased. As an example that same SuperComputer I mentioned before used to run 1 million prestige and now costs 500 thousand.. a 50% savings.
Don't begrudge those old established SGs with huge bases ,, they worked long and hard for what they have and at prices a lot worse than exist today. It's not hard at all for a few people to create a very nice SG base in relatively little time. No it doesn't happen with the wave of a wand you need to work for it a bit... but by work I mean PLAY the game so relax and start a base. If you put in some time you'll be suprised how fast things get accomplished.

So 15 to 20 minutes to pay rent. Tops. And you don't even need to play the game to pull that off!

Ok, so here's a step by step guide assuming you already have a base, like you said. This is probably not the fastest way to do it but it will work without fail.
1. Make sure you have editing rights for your base.
2. Enter your base.
3. Start clicking with the mouse pointer randomly all over your screen. You can close your eyes, if you want.
3. Wait till something happens. Eventually you will enter base editing mode. If you kept your eyes shut you have a 33% chance to end up in the right place to change your base plot.
5. Open your eyes again. Are you in base editing mode? - No? Close your eyes and continue clicking. - Yes? Is there an option to change plot size? - No? Exit base editor and go back to no.3 - Yes? Change plot size.
6. Congratulations, you managed to change the plot size of your SG base and saved your brain from undue wear off.

See, I too have done an overstressed brain a service. That is my good deed for the day. I have also challenged Myriad's unrealistic assumptions about how much brainpower people are willing to expend on their own behalf. That takes up my expenditure of brain power on somebody else's behalf for the day, so I will leave it to some other altruistic individual to explain how to make sure you have editing permissions.
