Players experiencing issues related to Graphics cards
i17 seems a bit rushed. I have had issues with me handsome little Gateway Platinum Series laptop since the i17 came out. Prior to i17, my graphics were GREAT. Had shadows, polished look to armor, and sleek tops, etc. I had my WoW friends impressed.
Post i17:
Bleh. I wouldn't show this game to those friends I was tryin' to convince. Unless you have a rig that blows the Samsung 3D out of the wall, then this game looks horrible. And I have been playing CoX for a little over two years.
Embarassing to play.
But this is just me.

I am really amazed by all the different experiences with this issue. I have an older puter that stiill has an AGP card, and the game looks beautiful..especially the water. (It reminds me of Oblivion, which still blows me away.) I was sure that I'd have problems, but was totally wrong. Go figure.

Running an older machine and had the same problems when I 17 came out. No problems before, now tons of issues. Had the "auto spins,: but the ATI Vid card thread fixed that. Only problems now are hanging when first logging in a charachter, and choppy gameplay when using travel powers. Overall, just a general slowdown in gameplay. Ulatra mode seems like kind of a waste to me. Sure the game may look better, but with this many problems, what's the need? More content would have been better recieved then flashy graphics. Hope things get fixed soon. I'm missing them game big time.

My wife is running a Toshiba laptop with the Mobile Intel 4 series and now she can't even access the graphics tab on her game. Everytime she does, the game crashes. Anyone that can help me figure it out would be greatly appreciated.

I have screenies comparing i16 and i17 even after today's patch on my Intel 945 which uses the GMA 950 engine
Well I called the techies and was suggested to use safe mode, update drivers just for the kick of it. She was able access the graphics/audio tab, even had some of the adv. features selectable. However, she moved a slider bar one slot and crashed. Prior to this fix, she was unable to adjust any adv. features, much less ultra mode. She also has no pics of contacts and her costume slots are all solid black, even the three she has costumes in. Still waiting for the response from the diagnostics tool they sent us. I'll keep ya up to date if you'd like on what they determine.

Didn't see any posts on this yet, but I'm having a graphics crash issue where the game just freezes and the sound is stuck in a loop. Seems awfully odd because I'm trying it on my brand new laptop and it crashes after 45 minutes every time I play the game. My 4 year old rig with an older GEforce graphics card is handling the game fine, so I don't understand what is wrong with it on the laptop. Have checked the settings and have the most up to date drivers. Another weird thing it is doing is I can't see any profile images when I talk to a contact or look up info on another player. Anyone else having this issue?
Coming back out of the woodwork after a couple years away from the game...
I started having issues got the card issue resolve.. Now when i logged on today a small patch went threw.. and suddenly the issue is back and it keeps crashing.. and I checked all aspects to make sure it wasnt on my end.. like i contacted Hp about my computer made sure all the drivers were updated and working properly.. They are.. and then i contacted Norton to make sure a new updated didnt suddenly interfer with the allowed figuration of the game program.. and everything was fine.. the last crash that happened said it was a error on the games end.. So not sure.. what to do since it keeps giving me errors once again..

I've had periodic sound loop freezes on my laptop for a while now. It's aggravating because I can't find any one thing in particular I was doing at the time, so I cannot narrow it down. I know it's a troublesome intermittent bug, though.
If yours is a regular occurrence, I'd check your drivers and make sure you're up to date - I've not heard about a regular looping freeze in a while now.

I picked up a new radeon 5770, and after trying a few different games out there's no doubt about it being the newest drivers causing the problems, and not CoH itself.
Howdy folks,
I've got a display problem as well. I17 basically broke CoH on my laptop. I run an oddball machine: It's an Itronix GoBook III which is a hardened, ruggedized machine used for military and outdoor use. This notebook's got an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 w/ 64mb. CPU is an Intel Centrino 1.8GHz and 2Gb of system RAM. Even though I kept the Direct3D and OpenGL settings in the ATI driver set on high performance as well as the graphics set to Performance and advanced graphics set to 'Disabled' in game, it actually ran surprisingly well.
Ever since I17 though, it's been broken. Basically, my symptoms are I get a scattered looking loading screen for a few seconds and then the screen goes totally black. The only thing that I can see is the login and password fields but they're grey and I cannot see any text I type in. The mouse cursor is also very, very slow to respond. Audio works. Just got squat on display. I experience the same symptom in Safe Mode, too.
I've tried three different ATI drivers: the one provided by the laptop manufacturer, an Omega Driver, and then most recently the ATI Catalyst 10.4 driver using DH Mobility Modded drivers. With the Omega driver alone, I experience the "your car does not support ARB_" messages with the game crashing thereafter but with the other two I'm seeing the black screen.
My guess is it's a driver issue but I just can't see how. Any ideas?
Hehe, sometime I feel like throwing my desktop, let alone my laptop haha, guess someone thought they might to and got an appropriate one in case they did

I upgraded it hoping it'd play CoH for the heck of it and, to my surprise, it played it pretty well during I16. Just trying to figure out now why it's broke.
Is there any such thing as a barebone, default configuration setting or registry setup somewhere? If it's up on some complex setting I'd like to be able to get in to crank it all down or modify it outside of game somewhere.
Am I the only ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 user with issues?
The safe-mode check-box is pretty bare bones. My guess is that it is a driver issue. But, I see that ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 drivers are hard to find. You may want to try the -useTexEnvCombine as described here:

Wow, that worked! I was able to get right in and it actually looked pretty good and moved pretty well!
The mouse cursor is moving extremely slowly but I suspect I can fix it. Right on! Thanks for the tip.
Just to let you guys know, disabling the all non-Microsoft services and removing the 5 other things in StartUp made my mouse lag problem go away. I'm not sure which specific service or TSR was buggin' it but it did suddenly start working just fine. Surprisingly, I'd say the graphics on I17 are quicker than the older versions.
Hydrogen NA, what did you specifically disable? I was and am still having the same problems that you were. I am getting very frustrated.
and they haven't had updates to the drivers for my model of computer since september of 2006....
so what now? is there anywhere else i could find drivers that would work?
Taz staggers backwards, checking the skies for anvils and boulders. Being that your laptop is 3-4 years old and probably not under warranty, you still have some options:
1: Check windows update to see if it has any drivers in it's "Hardware, optional" section
2: Contact Toshiba's legacy tech support
3: Go to the place of purchase
4: Go to a local computer shop (unless it has ACME in the name)
5: If you know the gfx chipset in the laptop try that manufacturer's website (ati, nvidia)
6: Search the interwebz for forums about your specific make and model
and always try:
7: Fill out a CoX support ticket listing your
Model
O/S
gfxchipset if known
(try to bribe them with, punch and pie or bacon, never cake (it lies))
Options 2,3, & especially 4 may cost you some coinage (bench fee's byte)
If the drivers you downloaded enable you to get to the sign-in screen exit and restart the game in "Safe-Mode" (watch out for dental drills), log in and start slowly adjusting your settings upward. If you have an ati chipset turn off water effects, ati (like Taz) hates water. If there is a reccomended setting on the gfx slider, start there or just below that setting. If it locks up, restart the game in safe mode again and aim lower.
That is all Taz can suggest other than telling you to offer any tech savvy friends or their parents sugary foodstuffs.
Taz goes back to raging at the Sky Dev's so they can part the waves of frustration blocking access to WW's and the BM...
