Players experiencing issues related to Graphics cards
Well, I'm still having delay problems. Not as bad, though. I'm guessing this new issue is just messing things up.
The television is showing what looks like a horribly dubbed western. There's at least 5 seconds between when you see someone's mouth form a sound and when you hear it.
Two of the cowboys are having a very serious conversation. After what seems like an eternity, you finally hear: "I would be extremely interested to know what the third party applications are that are causing this problem." "Please let me know if you figure out what programs are causing the input delay in CoV. Most of the time people's problems stem from not playing enough red side, but any problem that actually keeps you from playing red side drives me crazy." |
... people with older systems should check task manager as well to see what else is running in their backround ... fresh virus scans are good as well ... msconfig, yes check there for any pesky startup applications you are unaware of ... search their names on the internet to see if they're malware or spyware ...
Taz shakes his head and stares at The Babysitter again ... the Television is wise, but talking TV is unwise unless you dare to be stupid. TV's talking directly to you mean that the fnords are whispering again and it's time to buy more foil hats. The Television is great, but The Computer is Perfect, Hail The Computer! Yes, moar redside for Taz, especially in July when blue can become grey and have a "talk" with The Babysitter. Maybe The Computer will visit the isles and tell us to be like Ernie "Chip" Douglas and "Kill The Babysitter". But Eris wouldn't like that and she influences all in the discordian dystopia that is the Rogue Isles.
Taz checks The Computer and corrects the suggested items in this thread and spins happily away...

I was totally serious here.
So I'm one of the folks who's having an issue where, particularly in highly-populated zones, I will mapserve repeatedly, then eventually disconnect. This is new as of I17, and didn't happen to me on Test.
Not only will I disconnect from the game, but it will knock me completely off the wireless network and I'll have to reconnect.
I'll paste my DXDiag below. My first thought is that I probably need to upgrade to the 10.4 drivers, but I wanted to get more expert opinions than mine before doing so. Is this problem even something that could be driver-related?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice.

Yes, update the driver if you can. I'm not sure if Asus blocks normal driver installations like some OEM's do.
Also, lower some of the graphics settings, the 3200 is a relatively lower level chipset.
Here's a Hierarchy chart from March. I haven't seen a newer one posted. Notice that the 3200 doesn't show up until the second page of the chart.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

This laptop is kind of a "stopgap" until my wife and I buy more dedicated gaming desktops; I wasn't crazy about the 3200 when I bought it, but it was "good enough" and that's all I ask for it to continue to be.

So, to update:
Downloaded and installed the 10.4 pack. Rebooted to complete the installation.
When I checked the dxdiag, it still showed the 8.634.0.0 driver version as being what's active. All I can figure is that it didn't install the drivers in the right place (it installed them in c:\program files\ATI). Logged in to the game, teleported around KR a little bit, mapserved repeatedly.
I'll paste the CoHHelper file and HiJackThis below. If Asus is one of the makers that doesn't want you to be able to update the drivers (and it tells me, when I point the driver updater at the location it installed the update to, that all the files are up to date...), what process can I follow to make the game playable again? That is, how can I manually wipe/install the relevant driver material?

Have you tried using a hardwired Ethernet connection instead of wifi?
|
Having now tested a different computer (wired) and the same laptop (wired with the same cable), I have learned the following:
I don't get LCTM messages on my wired desktop at all.
I got almost no LCTM messages on this laptop when I plugged it in and stopped it from connecting wirelessly.
This is not a graphics card issue - it looks like it may have something to do with the router in use/wireless transfer protocols/something like that. But I won't take up any more room in this thread, other than to say that if anyone else is having this problem, I'd be interested in whether they're also using aging Linksys Wireless-B routers.

The trouble I'm having is none of the contacts pictures are showing up they are different they change and my toons pictures are weird looking too and I'm also get kicked off more and more
People also forget to check their hard drive space, Taz is not sure if UM stores all of a zone or instanced mission's gfx items in the Virtual Memory, but freeing up HDD space made most of the problems with graphical lag go away, and the shiny happy mouse cursors don't have errors anymore with IO enhancements or salvage showing up on the hand or arrow. Taz's contacts would also have test pattern or unrendered backrounds when he was running low on VMM as well. His display does sometimes flash when moving windows or slotting enhancements, and he has noticed that the tailor interface for a costume slot is half blue and half red. If you're playing red you shouldn't be blue, unless you want to play purple or other shades of grey in July...

so...
no matter what i do, i still can't view characters or maps. when i log in, i can access all my different characters, but the characters themselves won't load. also, when i load onto the server, neither the characters nor the map will load. however, i can see the chat log, auras, and things of that nature.
so far i've tried several things:
messed around with in game graphics
tried it on safe mode several times
uninstalled then reinstalled both the game and the updater
verify all the files every time i try to log on
any advice on what i should do? it would be greatly appreciated. i'm at the end of my rope here.

i'm actually running on a laptop (a Toshiba) right now. it ran the game great right before this last update-- i don't have any kind of video cards except for what comes standard.
i'll try updating my drivers, and if that doesn't work, i'm sure i'll come crying back in a few minutes.
ok, so i'm gonna come clean....
i don't really know very much about computers, just the basics and what my brothers have told me. i looked up the drivers things, but i have no idea what to download-- i went on the ati website, and downloaded the driver, but it didn't work.
yes. i'm retarded with computers.
Have you figured out what may be causing this? I'm actually experiencing the same problem; a black flash that lasts just a split second. Running on a Radeon 4850, Windows 7 64-bit, Catalyst 10.1. I would try the new 10.4, but those make me lose over 10 fps. Gonna try a few settings both in-game and in the control center, see if I can track it down.

Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT
1 GB RAM (on card...4GB RAM on box)
Driver Version 8.17.11.9713
Any feedback would be helpful.

Depending on the age of your laptop, go to the manufacturer of the Laptop's website, look on the back for your serial # and or model #. Use this information to look and see if they have any driver downloads for your specific system. The manufacturer's website might also tell you what exact gfx card you have in your system, or you can get that information from the device manager from the System options in your Control Panel.

and they haven't had updates to the drivers for my model of computer since september of 2006....
so what now? is there anywhere else i could find drivers that would work?
At this point, I'm going to call it a night. I'll check back in the morning when I get up to see if you've posted anything else and will proceed from there.
