I wish WebOS had Apple or even Google's marketing team. This little OS runs circles around every smartphone I've used, iPhone especially. I wonder if Palm got their marketing team from Betamax...

Oh. Here's something I thought of...instead of buying TV ads at hundreds of thousands of dollars a pop...you should offer free reactivation weekend and then for anybody who subs, resubs or adds a month activation time (minimum) they could be entered into a draw for cold, hard, cash.

Top prize would be something like $50k-$100k. Everyone likes money.

The CoX subscriber list must be pretty huge, so it would be an easy incentive to get people to come back and see what's new. Probably getting 3,000 subs/resubs to stay for 3 months or 10,000 subs/resubs for one month would break even for the draw.

Everyone who is currently subbed would probably add a month as well just to enter the draw...although you will always have complainers who want to be auto entered.

Of course, you'd have to make sure that Canadians and Europeans could enter as well

This.

So while I realize that you can't always tell us everything, I do hope that you can at least provide us with enough info (especially related to the 8000+ questions you've received) to know that you're not just tossing the occasional non sequitor teaser at us, but addressing what the PLAYERS want to know.

If they were to be re-introduced, there would need to be a way to deliver valuable, interesting ads only to those players who wish to see them. These ads cannot break immersion, or gameplay. At the same time, advertisers would need reassurance that they would reach the right customers.
How was this reaction measured? If you only used forum responses, then you would have definitely received a skewed view.

Plus: how many people were actually recorded in the metrics for looking at the in-game ads? That's your hard data. The people who complain about ads aren't always the ones who look at them.

Again, I don't think that CoH/V actually attracts a big enough market to interest advertisers. For the next Paragon Studios game, if in-game advertising is implemented from day 1 you'll probably have a more successful implementation even if you just duplicate the billboard method used by CoH/V.

Hopefully those issues no longer apply now and this idea can get placed on the "to do" list.

Perhaps a web-based flash version as well?

Black Pebble,

You deal with marketing right? Does that include the website and other products?

If so I'd like to request some things...

a Dosier or Encyclopedia. What i mean is something like a little electronic book type thing (could be sold as a program, a book, or a electronic device) that has information on every thing so far in CoH... mind you not a copy of the bible, but something like...
a turn around image of every character, break down of their powers, history, physical stats, and alliances, and other status.

It would be rather cool to have just for a read or to have sitting next to a PC to quick find. I'm sure people would be willing to buy it for quite a bit of money and more or less it just requires putting it together as all the pieces and information is already out there.

Another thing I'd like to see is an expansion of the CoH comics... I don't see why CoH couldn't become it's own Brand and print comics like DC or Marvel. Sure they wouldn't be as successful, but the story and lore is really great and would likely draw in more customers...more so than one comic called city of heroes ever would.

So, 8,225 questions and we get this:

The European Community
I have extensively read the pressing issues from our European customers – it was in one of those threads that someone referred to CoH Marketing (and not in the most positive way) as a “Black Pebble” so that’s where I got my board handle from. Although my role focuses on North America, it does not mean Europe is off my radar.

Please know that we are very aware of your concerns, and we are not ignoring them. We are working to increase the visibility of CoH in Europe, but also the attention our European customers get. There are multiple initiatives in place, and once they’re close to fruition, I would love to share the details with all of you. Until then, I can reassure you that our European customers are very important to us, and we want to make certain that the things we do for you provide significant value.
No good. I've seen better responses fall out the rear end of a male cow.

Why not answer the question: What are you actually DOING to grow the European player base?

I wouldn't have put it in quite those terms, but I share the sentiment.

With all respect Black Pebble, many of us in the EU had it up to here with vague promises of Jam Tomorrow; Personally all I want now is a way to move my EU vet rewards to my new NA account.

That would never happen as that would be the complete death of EU. And EU is far from dead yet!!!

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was remembering something I used to see in comics when I was younger... ages ago, I used to have the "Who's Who" (DC Comics) and "The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe". They were done as alphabetical groups, so I remember one edition that had Scarlet Witch, one had Lana Lang, one had Angel (and ArcAngel), one had Cloak and Dagger, and so on. But they had at least 20-30 heroes/villains in each.

Rather than do something similar with just screenshots from the game, a novel way that Marketing might take advantage of the enthusiasm of the playerbase is to hold a massive contest - say, submit 'comic style' art (and obviously T for Teen style) for up to 5 NPC characters. A group of Paragon Studio judges (including David Nakayama and Ken Morse, for example, the art guys) then selects the best ones to represent the NPCs in the "City of Heroes Who's Who."

They can even do a "Create a Character's Look" contest - what DOES Galaxy Girl look like? Or Dauntless? How about the Dream Doctor? Or any of the other heroes/villains we hear about but never see? Talk about a chance to have your ideas made canon!

Then voila, we've got a comic-style "Who's Who" of the CoH-verse.

And there it is... VERY nice idea. I would pay for something like that as I always love to know more about the lore of what I´m playing (or reading for that matter), and with real art instead of computer image it would be just great. Remember me again why the heck haven´t they hired you yet?

Edit: Of course, there would have to be something like "I give you the rights to this" to avoid any mess...

Ya know, if we had that old City Vault thing, it would make a great virtual compendium to the actual comic-style who's who.

before i go on... I hate those comic encyclopedias published by the comic companies, mainly cuz they are trash for information when they cover a broad spectrum of characters... the batman encyclopedia = phenomenal... The DC encyclopedia = not worth the money.

I like digital which is why I suggested it, plus it could be updated rather easily to which would be nice...it would also function a bit more slicker and you could link between relevant things...Another reason is a little bit more cleanliness as some things are easier to put in (i'll explain in a moment) But most of all... it's just something that i think all the characters in CoH would have and it would be like making part of the game a part of reality which is a big trend in marketing now adays

See what I'd want in something like this is... something like this mock up

Then when you click on the head image you'd get a turn around (for those that don't know this is a turn around)

But that could be easily placed on a separate page... it's just not as clean.

hi there pebbles. welcome.
i like in-game ads. people say it ruins the illusion of reality, but i feel the opposite.
when was the last time you drank a "sprunk" cola, or viseted a cook's electronics.probably nev-ah!
I do, However, see ads for real things in real life.If i see those things in the game, i think its kinda cool. But just dont flippin' over-do it, ya know?
now, i didnt read the 11 pages before my comment, but my suggestion is adding CoH ads in movie theatres when they play the trailers of comming attractions.lots of Super hero movies coming out.in the next few years. ride that wave, big kahuna.
thanks for your time.
gotta go. it's time to walk my "Jeeter-Clutch " Shoes.

Cross promoting...

Sprunk Cola ... talk to Coca Cola have them make real Sprunk Cola and you can advertise it in game, which you already do. Limited time only... you get free advertising and we get a limited edition pop, plus Coke gets a free advertising in the game...

No they don't; Sprunk Cola does. Unless Coca Cola spends money to advertise the connection, they get nothing other than a dilution of their brand... and they still get some of that.
