The expansion was announced last May, and most of what we know was revealed by last July. In the seven months since then, unless I'm forgetting something, there have been no major features announced. So while I'd be delighted to hear that Praetoria makes an end to randomly-generated offices, there's no proof of that. And it's not much of a boon if the Praetoria section has no more variety than an extended Mercy Island.....

Discussion: Two Ways to Get Going Rogue
If we get right down to it, this latest announcement isn't really marketing Going Rogue itself. It's marketing the three ways to acquire Going Rogue with a pass at the GR Item Pack. The empahsis is slanted towards buying the Digital Only Expansion to get the Early Powerset Access.
This particular announcement only talks about two things in Going Rogue proper, the two powersets, and that's not new information.
They're not marketing Going Rogue, they're marketign the early access in an attempt to get people to buy the "finantially unsound" version over the sounder one later on. Money directly in their hand now is far better than wholesale money in the hand later and the loss of a month's subscription fee.
While we can draw some comparisons to CoV those comparisons are tenuous at best because this is something entirely new for the City of games. It's an actual expansion rather than an expansi-alone or a minor item pack. As such, any comparisons we draw to what they've done before will require a lot of modification from the last time. Add to that the initial announcement escaped into the wild well before they wanted it to, meaning we've known it was coming with little or no info for far longer than they deemed acceptable initially, and they've had to modify their original marketing plans on the fly to put out any minor brushfires (like people thinking it would by I16 and so on). However, that's also meant our wanting information happened far before they wanted to (and perhaps could) give any.
Given all that, it's my guess that next week we will see a big laundry-list "GR Contains X, Y and Z" info release on most (if not all) that's in it, but it will still be light on real details of what those things specifically entail (afterall, release is still 5 months off). Those details will be slowly supplied in irregular packets around once a month for the next 5 months until release starting with what we already know. My guess is we'll see a release on either Powersets or Pretoria first with the other being second followed by the Turncoat System and so on with end game content being very close to the release date. They will be interspersed with I17 content info releases to keep us from waitign too long for information. I'm also betting that things that aren't working somewhat in internal testing at that stage won't be talked about at all so as not to repeat the CoP/Base raiding mess from CoV.
I for one, am going to jump on this because they had me sold at Switching sides AND new starting content.... Praetoria and Ultra Mode are a bonus XD

Edit: Anti-Aliasing, whazat? cause im not sure if its me... (quad core at 2.63 ghz and ATI Radeon hd 4350) i turn it off and things stop skipping 1-2 secs |
Anti Aliasing is(to put it in layman's terms) a means by which jagged edges are removed from rendered objects in games. It's usually referred to as FSAA(Full Scene Anti Aliasing). It basically makes objects look smoother and more realistic. For your type of graphics card, though, I can see where it might put a strain on things.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Vange1us#g/u should have a look here then, this has Hero con fotage which was in October*?* and they released some great info there, and this post is based on my asumption of that you havnt seen these videos... They are the HeroCon Keynote Ceremony btw

I watched it, and I'm pleased to see there's actually several new enemy groups (why are they not on the GR page?). However, that was the only thing I saw I didn't know already, so I'm not certain what else you were talking about.
Nope, hadn't seen them, since I don't consider 45-minute long con meetings are marketing to those of us who don't attend them.

well i was talking about I17 first and foremost*?* but my interpritation of GR is that we will have brand new lvl 1-50 content, a few new TFs sprinkled in Praetoria aswell as Paragon/Rogue (which i hope is a Hero 'copy' of the RSF with us fighting the Praetorian Guard) but what IS known is that brand new design of starting content (as in RIGHT out of the tutorial) as well as lvl 1-20 content, and i know as much as the next person, new info on GR will probably come with the announcement of "Going Rogue: Details and Pre-Purchase" or something like that. |
If NCSoft misses out on sales they otherwise would have had due to crappy marketing, isn't it better that they know about them and why?
|
Given the case presented by him, I was simply stating that, once Going Rogue comes out, he (and everyone else who is interested) will know more or less exactly what's in the expansion, from a meta viewpoint at least. If he doesn't want to spend the money blindly now, there's absolutely no reason he has to. He can wait until July when the expansion is released, and make his decision then.
Technically, nothing NCSoft's marketting is doing now has cost them any sales yet... but it might cost them pre-sales in the very near future. I think it's pretty safe to assume that most of the people continuing their CoH subscriptions will purchase the expansion in one form or another, either soon as a pre-sale or once it's available after launch. Those who don't purchase it will, sadly, probably cancel their accounts soon after. At the same time, some old players will return and new players will join the mix. (But that's pretty much how it goes with every issue that gets released... it'll probably be a little more pronounced in all categories for a paid expansion.)
There will always be consumers who want to know exactly what they're getting before they put down cash, and there will be those who are okay with making an investment based on goodwill, past experience and faith in a company/product. Blade and several others are the former, many others who have posted in this thread and others like it are the latter; there is no "right" group.
... Except marketing. They're pretty much awful, and everyone who thinks they're the devil is right. >_>

I highly doubt GR will have that. 1-20 is a stated given, and very likely some 45-50 for side swapping and whatever 50+ they're planning. Anything beyond that would surprise me. It will give the potential for an entirely new levelign experience 1-50 with a new 1-20 and then mixign and matchign CoH and CoV content all the way up to 50, but an entirely new set of 1-50 content is an unlikely dream. I may be wrong (I'll be happy to be wrong, in fact), but the odds are slim that I am wrong.
What is included in this "Item Pack"? Is it all the stuff like the Booster Packs and the things from the Architect/GvE editions?
I know that's probably been asked, but didn't feel like looking through 400 replies for the answer.

• Alpha- and Omega-themed auras
• Alpha and Omega themed costumed sets
• Four stance emotes
• The Shadowy Presence invisibility power
From what's snuck out on the power, it's a VERY good one but you can't move at all or it drops.
Edited to add: I wonder if the inclusion of this power means we'll eventually have foes where it woud be advantageous to stand, completely invisable and let them come to us for an ambush.
Trying to fast read all new pages I still miss one HUGE remark on all!!!
If you are European playing on the European servers there is no use buying the boxed set in anyway unless someone can assure us EU players that there is a way the Boxed set is linked to the EU servers! And the time upgrade is usuable to an EU account!
If not... the boxed set and the complete updated DVD is useless to the EU community.
Therefore I will go and play safe using the prepurchase and item-pack upgrade... Keeping it digital.
Aside of that... it is managable in Euro's I see... If I pay more this way (by not having the free month) I dont care. This game is worth it.
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

By the looks of it, i gonna skip GR, its way too expensive for the additional of 2 new sets and wont bring that much gameplay (for me). 29 dollar each, talking 120 dollar for just getting into GR. Multi-account players are put in a box 'your f00ked' by NC, dont like it at all. As long they have the sets on the test-server, i'll be happy there.. about the same ammount of players there as on a random evening on the EU side.
Irony kicks in, why not remake your characters on 1 account? Remaking 12+ characters, getting all IO's again, the badges, yet loosing the aniversy badges, and you still wonder why there is powerleveling? Its even cheaper to get a 3rd party plvl your toon then the monthly fee it would take you getting all those characters at 50 on your own. Not to mention loosing my characternames.
Free character transfer, within your server, within your account.

Sorry guys, was looking forward to pre-purchasing the Complete Collection digitially and playing with the stuff early... but without access to the early play, you've nullified the only perk for buying me direct. There's simply no good reason for me NOT to just wait until July and get it through a retail outlet so I can have a physical disc (for quicker reinstall) as well as all the special goodies.
Purchasing it through my retailer in July rewards my patience with saving me a little extra cash.
PS: Here's a suggestion for an offer: Pre-purchase The Complete Collection directly from us, you get early access, the goodies pack (no free month) and we send you a disc when the game releases retail.
That offer would have had me on-board immediately.
... Hit it ...
So how many people in this thread never actually read the original post? That's the one with the info in it.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. ... Well, I'd try to complain... it would most likely come out as a dry rasp, followed a bit later by a gurgle.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars
I dunno about complaints, but I do know... Usually when someone asks for money upfront they tell you exactly what you are buying.
PS: I dont really care about anything except for 1 thing.
All I want to know is if we are getting 1 to 50 new content. Or 1 to 40 with the promise of 41 to 50 later. If they would tell us that rite nao, I would know that I am buying both times 2.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.
