Let's be honest here. Buissness yada yada. We know that. No one is denying they are a buissness with numero uno being MAKE MONEY.
I think honestly they should have announced FIRST what is IN GR... and then later announce payment plans.
GR is very, very important for CoH at this point in its life. Let me add before I say anything more that I am a loyal CoH player and have been for 5 years. But GR needs to make sure that GR is the real deal. When Champions Online went live we all noticed a big drop in the number of players within are servers (lets all be real, we did). GR is the only thing that will give CoH a fighting chance when DCU Online goes live later this year.
I am not even remotely interested as of late with the GR expansion...not enough news for me to bite into. You ever been to a pizzeria and you had a craving for a gyro but you saw that pathetic spinning piece of lamb that had no flesh on it... that's what I see when I think of GR...
When we get some game details, I would start looking. The devs can start with the simple question like " Will I be able to play with Rogues/Vigilantes in PC/RI even if I don't have the expansion?" For me this is a question that has not been asked or answered... I want to know if I can skip this expansion but still be on a team that has a rogue, because frankly I am not interested in GR.

The answer is "no" - to switch sides, you must own a copy of GR.

Ok after wading through 16 pages of replies, my simple conclusion is . . . . . .
I will wait, since I want the box with the DVDs so I can have the latest copy of disks for back-up. Yes it would be nice to have the powers unlocked live early but I'll content myself with the test server for now. Besides, like others have mentioned in the last 2-3 pages, I want more information on GR before I confirm my desire for this latest paid edition. Though it will certainly be nice to have the newest edition of CoX hard copy.
Now if they included an option to pre-pay order the BOXED set from NCSoft store, paying say an extra $5 on top of the $39.99 to also have the powers unlocked early, for a total of $44.99. Then have the physical box set actually sent to me @ time of actual release, I'd actually seriously consider doing the "blind" purchase of the GR edition. But that would be the only case as I want the Hard copy & item/time perks.
Wow way to be needlessly complicated and confusing. nothing like having a company make it DIFFICULT to figure out how to purchase the product they want to sell. GREAT planning, excellent work. You guys are GENIUSES.
So if we purchase this early do we get a free month subscription too?
Sorry, but that is really, really...Stupid.
Why not allow the complete edition for pre-order? And why in seven hells is Europe getting the shaft AGAIN when it comes to retail? It sucked when it came to Architect edition, and it sucks again now! What the heck, man? Not amused. Not amused at all. |

Unless you're GOING to play for the next 3-4 months; it's better to wait till July |
Another unhappy EU player here.
The last real lash up (no boxed sets of AE) we were told
Unfortunately there are currently no plans to release this in Europe as an actual box. Producing a box run is an expensive process, and there are other factors involved that will become clear in time (no, not server mergers or anything like that). |
*This depending on the amount of new content if I consider it not worthwhile then I won't be buying.

Just popping in to see if we're still arguing :P
Also, CO gave us a drop off, but You'll notice their servers are mostly free of people, RPers for sure o.0 (Last I saw anyway) the game is made to be solo 1-40, and they JUST recently (I'm told) Fixed the mechanics to make teaming not anti productive :P
CO took some of us, then we went, WTH? and came back after making up an excuse :P Then some of them went to STO and are still kinda wondering if it's worth it. We'll see a drop off there too.
It's the old idea that EVERYONE stops going to the old bar when the new one opens, aside from the grizzled stubborn customers, who keep the old place going while the new place shows them shiney, then they realize the new bar, kinda sucks, and they all go back after a while.
Then a new bar opens up, and the cycle repeats o.o;
SOE has been a pariah since they pulled the "Lets make SWG into WOW, cuz WOW worked!" NGE crap. None of us forgive and forgot that. I'm going on the record and saying i'll heck out a demo, MAYBE just to see Batman, but COX is going to have my money until the end of days. That you can count on (though I'll be splitting time to see how Bioware's hat being thrown into the MMO ring will work out..)
So there's my 2 cents again!
-C.A.
CO hasn't turned out to be the death knell of CoH some people were expecting it to be, leaving COH in a very good position to place itself as the 800lb gorrila of superhero MMOs before DCUO even comes out.
(Alright, alright, the 400lb gorrila...)
It won't beat the newer games on visuals (although I16 and UM mean it won't lose as much ground as it could have on that score...) but on content. The amount of content in the game, and the free updates, were one of the sticks being used to beat Cryptic with over in the CO forums, and I'm sure DCUO can expect the same. Is it fair that a brand new game should have to compete with a 6 year established title for content? No, but too bad - if they intend to compete they'll have to.
Which is why I think the amount of new content in GR is so important. I'll be buying it whatever happens (too many DP/ concepts lined up not to!) but I want to see it with enough new game content that will impress a lot of other people and make them want to buy it as well.
If it doesn't, that's fine too, and I expect them to spin up what I personally find a rather lacklustre set of goodies as shiny as they can - but I still expect, by the time they are asking for my money, for them to be as clear as possible about what my money is going towards. GR might be so awesome I'd happily preorder it, but as is, I can't imagine paying for it when I have no idea what it actually contains beyond side-switching and two powersets.

This is what my husband just said to me not 3 minutes ago.
"So, how long is it going to take for Ultra Mode to come out? Like another month or so? And then we have to wait til July to even use it? I think something went wrong in their timeline, on releasing stuff. Port Oaks might look prettier but its the same exact missions you hate now."
I don't think he wants me to get the pre purchase, I think he wants me to just get to boxed sets in July. From what I can tell, he doesn't even plan on playing til July. So that is 4 months *I wish you would have told me that before I resubbed us for a year* down the drain.
I want to support this game financially as much as possible. It is to me the best MMO out there, Hows about some new info on what is coming in Issue 17?

Wasn't ultra mode announced as being part of i17? I just checked it was
![]() So i17 is new content, new emotes, UI updates, Mission Architect updates, a nebulous Doppleganger thing that was mentioned and more. Enough to keep subbed and interested. |
