Bring back rep comments!

I didn't read the whole thread, but I agree that negative rep should be inherent, like Stamina.

EDIT: As I mentioned in the other thread that was locked, allowing those who want to see it, and those who want it off to have it off would be best.

And you're beating me at this game. *pouts* Actually, i had no idea that comments had been disabled, which shows how much they usually affect me. The negative comments were almost always incoherent gibberish or nonsensically irrelevant to the post that they came from, which was amusing, and positive comments were nice to get, but the private message system worked just as well for that before we had a rep system. Can't say that i am positive or negative about the removal, it's more like the result of an indifference engine.
Eliminating the reputation system completely would not bother me either.

You know, they can still see the comment(s), the recipient just has to click on the scales for the post to see what comment(s) he/she got.

I cast my vote for either;

A. Restore it to the way it was

B. Give us a page that combines them so those that want to can still read them (without the tedious click on every post deal)

C. Remove it entirely.

I too, enjoyed signing on and seeing a new comment. Be it bad/good, Silly or profane. Now I won't know that I've even gotten anything, without searching out one of my posts and looking at the bubble.

Never said it was ideal or brilliant, but in the context of the post I was quoting, the recipient of the poster's rep and comment knew he got some and knew which post it was for.

Been thinking about what Niv said and if they can find a way for people to turn off their rep and not get any comments then it would only be fair that those people not be able to give anyone any rep if their rep is turned off.

Fair is fair. If your not going to play the rep game then you shouldn't be able to hide behind the grey jellybeans and still rep people.

Fair is fair. I wouldn't need this at roll out to be satisfied though. But then, I have never been one to hide my rep either.

Don't suppose you can make it an option for users to run comments on or off in their CP? I know it's a lot more work than to just pull the plug. The other thing you can do is copy the old usercp.php to an alternate filename for those of us that would like to be able to track comments.

If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.

This is my own issue with it.

My post history goers back to just after I joined (I have a just a few comments in not purged threads from back then). If someone wanted to neg rep someone 'just because', they just have to go waaay back and do it.

The chances of the person being repped actually finding the comment to report is slim.

Searching by username caps out at 500. Go back further than that and there is probably a less than slim chance.

In theory, it should be as simple as:

     $rep_com=[CODE TO SHOW REP COMMENTS HERE];
}else{
     $rep_com=" ";
}
And then just tell it to display $rep_com. However, having experience with PHP & MySQL, I know it doesn't always work the way it should. I swear, PHP is alive, and evil! o.o

I'm glad to see that the mods are looking into this and actively trying to find a solution that will keep those of us with stone skin and those of us with skin the thickness of wafers both happy.

Now the only question I suppose is WHEN. I will be patient. Thanks Niv for responding. More information is always better than less.

I would have no issue with this, as it would just be like the old forums. As I've said if you turn off rep, all parts of it should be off.
