The City of Heroes Super Booster IV: Martial Arts is out!
I have Ninja pack now...
Two things!
1. The new swords are awesome. Can we please get the Chinese Broadsword and Dao for Katana too?
1a. Vanguard swords and katanas for DB? D: yesplz!
2. Can we please, please, please finally get some tails to slap on those awesome robes?

Can you clean up the account page at some point so it clearly states which ones we have bought? I know right now, but the more and more of these come out, the harder it is getting to remember.
Loving the new booster pack, cossie peices looks great, and parts will no doubt get used all over the place on my toons, the new weapons look lovely, the CCE's are fantastic and the emotes are wonderfull. Then there is the Ninja Run power, purly awesome.
But have noticed a few issues...
1) As someone else stated, with weapons drawn the new CCE's don't play and cause a 5 second-ish delay in the cossie changing.
2) Prestige Power Slide + Ninja Run is very odd, Idle stance and jumping anmis look fine, but for running the slide anim take precidence, not sure if this is WAI or not.
3) Though no-one on Defiant Events could verify this, if I jump with NR on and am moving forwards then quickly switch to moving in any other direction before the flip anim the start of the flip sound effect plays in a loop till the flip occurs. Another way I've found to dupicate this on my system with a 98% success rate is to stand still, jump then quickly double tap forward, or forward then any other direction. Now, this could be an odd intereaction with my sound card, but being a high end card (Creative X-fi XtremeGamer "Fatal1ty" Pro) it shouldn't be as I'm running the sound settings at max.
But other than that Great job guys! :-)
Then it's time for them to get off the cross, use the wood to build a bridge, and get over it.

This thread got long, fast, so if this has been mentioned, forgive me, BUT...
It looks like the "Ninja Run Jump + Weapon Out" animation is only set up for right-handed weapons. When I have Ninja Run on with either a bow or katana out, and then jump, the right hand is in a fist, but the left hand is wide open, with the bow/katana glued to the open palm.
So far, I haven't found anything I don't like about Ninja Run. Well, maybe one thing, we need more selectable poses for the run portion.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Devs, Seriously?
You did not just add something this awesome. For me, Ninja-run is by far the best graphical tidbit added to this game in the history of the game.
Although I like the game, I'll be honest. The run and jump animations always kind of bugged me. I found myself making characters that hid the torso and pelvis with long coats and capes just to mitigate those animations. And even though I like the jump animations for the large body type, I happened to make a Shield, a Spines, and a Claws character and all of them switch to the "normal" jump with weapons out.
I knew it was a selfish, nitpicking thing to complain about. What, the devs were going to completely revamp the run and jump animations to something different because I personally didn't like the animations? Hey, I knew that wouldn't happen. It wasn't a reasonable request.
As for travel powers, my favorite characters are natural types. None of the travel powers really fit. The best times I had for my natural character was actually perma-Elude, not because of the power of it (it capped Defense, even though the energy drop was annoying) but because I liked the speed/jump combo.
Then out of the blue unexpectedly you provide a Elude-like movement power available to all characters with completely new and awesome run and jump animations? Are you kidding me?
I am stoked. I am so stoked that my only complaint is that I want this on all the time. I want this power enhanceable and lower on Endurance not because of the power of it, but because I want the awesome all the time. I would gladly take this in a power pool if you provided a slottable version that stacked with Combat Jumping.
This power does so much to enhance my personal game play. I was using Ninja Run + Swift + Sprint to travel through the RWZ. It is fast enough and has enough jump height that I could use this as my only travel power. I wanted it to allow Combat Jumping, but that's just because it is so great I want it on all the time. Another advantage to this power is that I can make Teleport characters since when I get sick of TP for traveling (or I don't feel like getting to the mission out of endurance) I can just Ninja run instead.
Thank you for this. Seriously.

4) If this is the "Natural" origin booster pack, I guess we're out of luck on things like backpacks, quivers, scabbards, etc., huh? Unless maybe (hopefully) they'll appear in a future pack.

I believe they mentioned the problem with sheaths on your back is the fact that weapons that you use are actually in your hand all the time, but invisible.
I hope they figure something out for that. Even if it is just plunking two copies of your weapon. One in your hand and one on your back. And depending on your 'weapon visible' bit, the one on the back appears or disappears.
Still here, even after all this time!

Ninja run is the most awesomesauce style od travel in this game. Sprint swift hurdle and Ninja run equals me running 74mph and jumping 64mph i love it no travel this is pure mix os SS and SJ tytyty I love it
Still too pricey in comparison to the small return. No sale here - should cost half of
what it is.
But I approve of the sneak release!
The forums keep getting nosier and nosier every issue about how noone ever listens to the
testers, so why bother testing things? Cut out the middleman more often! It's good for
everyone!

Hmmm - won't travel suppression make that impossible? As soon as you activate a power, won't Ninja Run suppress? I'm really curious about this, because if it DOES work, then it's time for me to roll a Shield using character! Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

It was my understanding that players received a one month credit to their CoX subscription with the magic pack, is that true also with the Natural/Ninja pack?
|
Only "retail" boxes (real or virtual) such as the Architect Edition or Mac Edition, etc come with a free month. Another option to get a free month is the loyalty program (go to 6 mo billing get a free month, 12mo billing gives you 2 free months).

I do believe they mentioned more packs for the origins after all five are done (Ie. things like Super Pack VI "Science II" as a possibility.)

Second: I don't even care if we have scabbards that never have sword hilts in them. Or always, even when swords are drawn. Even if it's a totally non-functional, static, unanimated costume piece, that would be awesome. (Scabbards and Quivers.. do you know how many of my toons are re-rolled D&D characters?)
Why, thank you! :] Though I know there are many people who have over 100 toons, and even some who have filled their accounts. (Also, many of my toons are L10 or less, lots of L1s.. someday they will gain their levels! xD) I am only forcing myself to wait to roll new toons for GR because I have so many toons right now, rolling more just means they get played even less :P
My Mercs/Traps MM is thoroughly enjoying telling her soldiers to "Drop and give her 20" :P Love that these work with pets!

It's funny, I brought up this idea as a different option for travel in a Suggestions and Ideas thread about 3 or 4 months ago. My idea was to have a travel power that had run speed faster than sprint, but slower than super speed and also had more jump boost than combat jumping but less than super jump....all in one power with new run/jump animations for the more "natural" type of characters.
This idea was met with 3 or 4 pages of trolls telling me how stupid I was was and the idea was idiotic. Well....just wanted to say HA HA BITE ME! Thank you. |
As far as Ninja Run goes I liked this power quite a bit some months ago when Cryptic first called it "Acrobatics" and made it one of their travel powers for Champions Online. It doesn't really bother me that this power's function and animation details are almost identical to the ones first invented by our "competition" in the least. For what it's worth I think CoX's version of this power has slightly nicer animations (espeically the way the arms move for instance).
If this game can continue "borrowing" the few features that other game is doing well then I have no doubt CoX will continue to be the overall better game.

BAB,
I'll look at it more carefully later without a costume, but the right arm is doing something funky with claws drawn while Ninja Run is active.
That's my only complaint and I'm not sure it's a complaint. I kinda like it anyway.
Running backwards off of the roof of a building, doing a full backflip as I fall and cranking on fly half way down was just too damn wicked. Wings look great on forward or backflip.
Hadn't seen Walk yet. Wow. My female peacebringer looked damn hot walking. Forward or backwards toward the camera. Nice job, man.
Last note: Ninja run with shield out looks like your gonna full body slam shield check someone in the chest. I now have to get this guy up to shield charge as I can only guess that the Ninja Run/Shield Charge combo will look freaking awesome.
EDIT: Now I need a way to single key turn on and off both ninja run and sprint for max run speed between spawns.
Be well, people of CoH.
