The City of Heroes Super Booster IV: Martial Arts is out!
Running with a bow out also looks super cool.
I was hoping to see a new super booster before going rogue or issue 17. Whichever is coming first
Purchased!
Friends don't let friends buy an ncsoft controlled project.
Overall, I would rate this Booster as below the Magic and Valkyrie packs, but somewhat better than Cyborg or Superscience.
The costume parts are well-made, but I wish they had chosen a theme that wasn't already so well represented in the game. There are already plenty of viable costume options for Asian themed characters (ninja, martial arts, Samurai). I don't see myself getting much, if any, use of out the costume.
Both costume change emotes are quite nice, as are the other new emotes. The real win here is the Ninja run power. The only drawback, for me, is the run pose -- I'm not crazy about it. However, the power itself is terrific -- a nice mix of running and jumping, roughly analogous to CO's Acrobatics. The flip while jumping is fantastic.

Blood Countess, 33 mind/storm Controller
Dr. Radon, 32 rad Corruptor
Phantom Pirate, 32 db/wp Stalker
My only complaint is a very minor one. I would really like an option for the 'Tai' boots to have a bare skin option, like the gloves do.

I like the emotes/animations but...just not worth $10 for me. :/

Someone else already mentioned quivers, scabbards, etc. I'd also like to see more pirate (specifically swashbuckler), knight, D&D class-type stuff (ranger, thief, etc). I know we can already get close with what we have, but we also had a lot of ninja-y stuff already too. It's not like there's a shortage, we just want more. ;]

So meh, ninjas. I'm not sure the run power is worth 10 bucks to me so this might be the first booster I'll skip.
I love the speed... the jump height and run speed when combined with Sprint is great! I HATE the endurance!
0.46 end/second!!! WOW that's a heavy end power. I am really bummed that I can't enhance it. Could we just get slots for enhancing endurance reduction? Make it just accept end-redux and no sets... that would make me truly happy.
Ultimately, being able to slot it like sprint would be optimal. Allow me to include standard Run/Jump/End-Redux enhancements, no sets.
Well ninja Run, detoggling CJ is not so cool.
Changing from NR to CJ takes a lot from the Ninja feeling this should bring.
I would have prefered NR in a new power pool and slotable.
This would have been great if you have to choose between SJ or SS.
I really hoped, that it would include scabbards and quivers.
I´m missing better quality cloth option for belts.
I´m also missing a cape like that:
The ROBES, the SWORDS, the HALF HELMET things and the QIN DYNASTY hair style are great. Really good quality.
The rest is ok but not really great.
The WARRIOR FULL (head detail 2) has clipping issues if you put the body scales PHYSIQUES trigger too far to the right.
The TERRA and TERRA FIRE robes have clipping issues if you put the body scales PHYSIQUES and WAIST Triggers too far tho the right.
My impression is, that the Booster Packs lost in quality after the Magic Pack.
The Science Pack had nothing really spectecular with it. And the head details have clipping issues with a lot of the the hats and helmets. What made it worth to buy was the possibility to change the body types. Which is also a feature, that should have been added in an Issue.
If the costumes aren´t wow, put in an awesome feature, or power to make sure the pack hits the taste of more players?
I mean. If we pay additional money, i think we can expect completely awesome costume sets and free of clipping issues btw.
Walk + Ninja Run + trenchcoats + Dual Pistols + reflective shades = possible badassery overload?
Will the servers be able to handle this amount of badassery when GR goes?
Will we?

Anyone test what that looks like with sword out? Or sword and shield? I just watched the video and at least one of my characters NEEDS the ninja run power very badly!!

Here
It's funny, I brought up this idea as a different option for travel in a Suggestions and Ideas thread about 3 or 4 months ago. My idea was to have a travel power that had run speed faster than sprint, but slower than super speed and also had more jump boost than combat jumping but less than super jump....all in one power with new run/jump animations for the more "natural" type of characters.
This idea was met with 3 or 4 pages of trolls telling me how stupid I was was and the idea was idiotic. Well....just wanted to say HA HA BITE ME! Thank you. |
I just bought this straight away for my first account, and the ninja run is purely awesome. Gonna have to buy it a second time now

Also, I'm going to have to disagree with you when you said that the Boosters have been going downhill since the Magic one. I bought it for the Tarot Card power and am only using the costume pieces on one character. Same with the Cyborg set: I'm not using the auras on ANY characters, and the costume pieces on just a few, and I haven't used Self Destruct since the day I got it--I just wanted to be able to do the robot dance. The Science one I bought and haven't used any of the features to this day, including the body resizing option at the tailor.
On the other hand, I'm going to get plenty of use from the boots, gloves and shoulder pieces introduced in the Martial Arts Booster. I have a Grav/Kin Controller that's a 14 year old boy obsessed with ninjas, and he's going to LOVE the robes and the smoke bomb costume change, not to mention the Ninja Run combined with Siphon Speed and Inertial Reduction. My main character is a Katana/SR Scrapper, and he's going to rock out the Ninja Run power and will have the Chinese Broadsword on at least one costume.
As far as I'm concerned, this is THE BEST Booster released so far.

...
Maybe. I, for one, will certainly try.
Anyway, now I can't wait to get paid so I have a spare ten bucks. Luckily that happens in about seven hours.

Interesting...while SS/SJ/CJ and Ninja Run are mutually exclusive, when I tested it turns out Hover and Ninja Run are fine together, with both remaining toggled on.
Doing a running jump, flipping, and then hanging in mid-air - very cool. Detoggle Hover and keep on trucking.
Want to comment again on the effects that accompany running and jumping backwards...just too cool. The full-layout backflip alone is amazing.
Someone mentioned that bow + NR is cool, and so it is, but I am getting some substantial clipping with the bow. Mostly with the cape, but some with the side/back.

Unfortunately the link in this bit points directly to the US version of the pack, and I've got used to websites giving prices in dollars enough that it didn't occur to me there would be a seperate EU version until after it wouldn't let me apply it...
Oops. Any idea what I do now? :/ |
My experience with NCSoft support is good. I hope it will be sorted soon.
Well, my Japanese Dual Blades/Ninjitsu Stalker is going to need this. *breaks out wallet*
You guys will be getting my money on Friday, November 20th. Pity I lost track of how much NCSoft has gotten from me from various add-ons to the different games, but its well over $100 now, and I'm quite happy/satisfied with everything.
Thank you devs!
The above are all available for Broadsword as well.
I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like Katana users only get access to the Chinese Broadsword.
