Well the old Central Park Media had the rights to Beautiful Dreamer while AnimEigo had everything else. And they did try to dub the first four episodes of UY once. It wasn't pretty.

Ya, but still. Some of the dvds are already hitting $40+. On Amazon, disc 50 only has one available (Used) at over $150! I've got about 40 of the discs so far, but eesh. Filling this one out is gonna put a dent in my normal purchases for a while.

The upside? If I ever need to sell, I can make a pretty penny.

Woot

Today I received my Complete Guyver Collection. All 6 volumes plus Art Box for only $13 (+$12 shipping)

I know it's a bit older but damn it's one I enjoy.

Now I just gotta plan myself a marathon sit down weekend to watch the whole thing.

If you like Dark SciFi with a bit of superhero thrown in and a splash of blood and guts give it a shot, it's one of my favs.

Samurai Champloo is on Netflix streaming now, as is the third set of FMA Brotherhood.

And the first episode of Kira has aired. You can find it on some fansub sites, I'm sure. I just watched it.

Umm.... well, it's a comedy episode. So if you're hoping for classic Higurashi madness and murder, you won't find it here. It's mainly Keiichi have perverted dreams about punishment games for the girls, until it all goes off the rails. Some funny stuff.

The second episode of the OVA won't air till September, and will be about Rika.... as a magical girl? Yeah more comedy.

Some new animes I've found and liked...

Squid Girl - A "mesenger from the sea" comes to conquer humanity in revenge for polluting the oceans! However, the messenger is Squid Girl, a cute but inept girl with tentacles for hair who has no clue how to conquer anyone. When she damages a beach shack diner by accident, she ends up working there to pay for repairs. It's adorable and squiding hilarious!

Ikoku Meiro No Croisee "A Stroll in a Foreign Labyrinth" - In 19th century Paris, a tiny Japanese girl named Yune comes to work as the cook and maid at the blacksmith shop/home of a young Frenchman named Claude and his nice grandfather. Claude's a bit of a jerk, Yune is the cutest thing ever, and the show is entertaining and heartwarming.

Seitokai No Ichizon "Student Council's Discretion" - In this Japanese high school, the student council is elected by popularity, and results in the four girls the student body think are the cutest/coolest/hottest getting elected, despite that none of them are really suitable for the job. However, one student with the best grades in school also gets an automatic seat on the council, and this year is a boy with a dating sim game obsession who got his grades up just so he could join the student council and make the girls his personal harem. None of the girls are going to allow that to happen. It's a funny show with many, many shout outs to other anime and manga (my favorites are the no less than two different Higurashi references).

Yeah, Squid Girl is good. Definitely worth checking out if you're after some lighthearted fun

And here's a couple more things to watch:

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls - Gender-swapped reincarnations of famous samurai in an alternative reality Japan where the Shogunate never fell, this looks like a show about scantily clad women with big swords. And, frankly, it is. There's no Witchblade-esque story hidden away, just fanservice and fighting. So why am I recommending it? Two reasons: 1) the aesthetics are brilliant, and 2) it's fun. Definitely a guilty pleasure, if you want something you can just switch your mind off and enjoy, this'll do nicely. If nothing else, just see the epic first couple of minutes of ep 1...

Yuru-Yuri - I mentioned this as being promising a month or so back, and I'll follow that up by saying it's great. A slice-of-life comedy with schoolgirl lesbians (complete with nosebleeds), shipping, fourth wall breaking, comedic sociopathy, shout outs....Seriously, just watch it, 'tis very funny

Yuruyuri is great. Kyoko makes me laugh the most.

Squid Girl was just announced for getting a second season, too, so yay!

High School of the Dead is on Netflix instant. Only watched the first episode, but the dubbing was fantastic!

Now I've seen the Sub of HOTD. If this review is worth believing (And I'm not 100% sure it is. I think the reviewer is a tad angry), I'm not sure the dub will be worth listening to.

Now don't get me wrong, HOTD is still on my want list. I'm just afraid that this might be one of the few titles where I won't listen to the Dub.

Thank you for the time...

Eureka 7 only has one vote? That is criminal!
I am going to list Eureka 7, Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note as my faves, pending my mood.

He comes off sounding half-informed. The series is made by a hentai artist if I remember correctly...so it's kind of redundant to complain about the fanservice that's built around a zombie apocalypse. I will however...complain about the unneeded fanservice that was added by MadHouse that made me faceplam (yes...I'm talking about you Matrix Boobs...)

There are some f-bombs dropped, won't deny that, but at the given situation, I'd say it's okay (and I've worked and been around enough high schoolers to know that a lot of them cuss like sailors). I disagree about his impression about nurse Marikawa, her voice doesn't come off as high pitched to me.

I have my grumbles about the series and certain liberties MadHouse took, but overall it's a pretty solid telling of the first half of the manga.

Probably going to rewatch the series again on my next day off as I've only been watching it at work >.>

Have you read the manga of HOTD? Ya...the bit about the bathing episode? That's not something that was added to the anime out of thin air. Let's put it this way...the manga comes shrinkwrapped...

(Though I can't say for sure, I've not watched the anime. Just going by that guy's review.)

As I mentioned before, I've seen the Sub. I've also seen as much of the Manga as I've been able to find.

I find that the Anime of HOTD is a solid adaptation of the Manga, and that is a good thing. Granted there are a couple of pacing and story swap points in the Anime compared to the Manga, but the overall first couple of Storyarcs are done well. I do hope a second series is done that covers from the Shopping Mall Arc forward.

Did Madhouse go a little overboard in ep. 8? Maybe. But you have to admit that particular sequence (Starting from the point Takashi starts firing w/Rei's gun and finishing off w/the "Matrix Boobs") is a very interesting sequence.

Now then, my concerns are strictly squared on the Dub. I haven't herd it yet and I'm not in a position to attain the series just yet. Honestly, I know there are liberties taken when translating is done, usually for cultural means, but are the changes keeping in the nature of the characters? The ANN Review hints that this wasn't the case in the HOTD Dub. And that is what concerns me.

I can stand most Dubs and get a good enjoyment from watching (and listening to) a show's Dub. Very rarely will I prefer a Sub over a Dub (USMC's Dub of Dominion Tank Police squarely comes to mind...). I just hope I don't have to include HOTD's Dub on that very short list of Sub over Dub.

Thank you for the time...

Nurse Marikawa is dubbed by Monica Rial, who's known for her little girl voices (she's May Chang in FMA Brotherhood, and Ai in Shin-Chan), though she can do others types (she was Jo in Burst Angel), so she has some impressive range.

yep, I read it, been months since chapter 29 came out....*sigh*

After watching all 12 eps...

@Tymers, I feel the only slight dialogue changes that altered a character's image was Saeko, she's a cool, calm and sophisticated character with a dark side, yet hearing her drop f-bombs and saying "Jesus Christ!" seemed very out of character. Kamuro's swearing didn't seem to become all that bothersome till towards the end of episode 8/beginning of 9, though the only time a f-bomb seemed warranted was at the very beginning of the series when we see them gathering on the roof.

Recommending Redline, nice over the top racing movie. Love the animation/art that MadHouse used for it

Swear to doG, I'd have an easier time finding the frickin' Ark of the Covenant than I would finding volumes 26, 27, 43, and 44 of Urusei Yatsura. They just aren't out there. It's like those four volumes were shortpacked in the production line. I can find virtually every other volume (excepting Beautiful Dreamer) without any hassle whatsoever.

Some of the Spring and Summer show are starting to wrap up, with the new season starting in a couple weeks.

Two of the shows that have finished I would recommend watching are:

Usagi Drop:
- A very well done and heart-felt anime.
It's a bit short at 11 episodes but I think it ended in a good place. If they decided to make a second season, I may be a bit hesitant to watch it. I've read that after chapter 47 in the manga, the story takes a weird turn and ends up with one the the worst endings anyone could think of. (I've not read the manga, but when so many people echo the same thing it makes me a bit skittish about another season.)

STEINS;GATE :

OK, this has to be my favorite.
It's hard to describe it and do the show any justice, for me at least, but the underlying theme of the show is Time Travel. The story and pacing were well done and laid out with plot twists, turns and reveals make you look forward to the next episode. (they did to me at least )
There will be a movie coming out next year, but it's a stand alone and has nothing to do with the story that just finished. Funimation pick up it's license earlier this year and it'll be out on dvd/blu-ray next year.

Along that vein, I've finished Tiger & Bunny and +1 it. It's a great series and I hope Viz releases it on BD. Knowing how things work that probably won't happen for another year or 2 though :'(

Oh, and I also hope a season 2 gets made.

Have only seen the first 3 eps (7 episodes at Anilinkz), but am strongly recommending Bakemonogatari. 15 episodes in the series total I believe. Good stuff.

Synopsis:
Although there are still traces of the brief period he became a vampire, third year high school student Koyomi Araragi is human again. He happens upon others with their own supernatural problems and finds that he can empathize. Koyomi becomes involved in their lives, seeking to help them and occasionally asking for advice from Meme Oshino, the homeless man who helped him become human again.

Episode 2 of the Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kira OVA is out. Rika and Satako wake up to find themselves in a world where they're "magical girls" battling the evil forces of Tokyo Magika! It's ridiculous and played completely for laughs. Rika remains awesome.

Episode 3 is coming in late November, and seems to be about Keiichi and Mion possibly finally getting together as a couple? Hard to tell from the preview if this will be serious or not.
