How has Tiger and Bunny not been mentioned yet?

The show is a Japanese deconstruction and reconstruction of the Super Hero mythos.

Heroes, with corporate sponsors, compete year-round to stop crime, with various crimes having various point values. The main character, Wild Tiger, is an older hero who isn't so concerned with points as he is with doing things for the good of the people, and his sponsors team him up with a new guy, Barnaby, who is a lot more dedicated to the points system.

It's an absolutely fantastic series, and thus far, its popularity seems to be taking off in Japan. Tiger is an absolutely wonderful hero whom any of my characters would love to team up with.

Bonus points for the fact that it's being subbed right off the bat, and up for watching on both Viz Anime and Hulu.

The stereotyping is insane, but funny. I almost feel sorry (note: almost) for Germany, due to his association with Italy. America and England have a neat little rivalry ya thing going on. Russia sits back and acts nice and friendly, but then scares the heck out of France. Canada gets ignored by everyone. China beats up other countries using a wok and a ladle. And Roman Empire gets two funny little vocals (Hell on Earth is... and Heaven on Earth is...).
I just started watching this series, and was howling by the time episode 6 rolled around. Germany and "Herr Schtick". Italy making his entrance in a tomato crate. Austria providing the background music. America screaming they're summoning the devil while making s'mores. Britain's attempt at black magic. France's laugh. Not to mention that the English dub is so stereotypically 'offensive' it's a riot.

This two minute clip pretty much warns you what you're in for.

There was a separate thread when it first started. It's getting interesting now that there's a vigilante or maybe a villain as a regular. I'm keeping up with this and the X-Men anime series.

+1 to History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi

Nichijou - As the English title - Ordinary Life - suggests, this is a slice of life show, featuring the everyday adventures of a gorup of schoolgirls. And a 8 year old scientific genius. And a talking cat. And a robot girl with a giant key in her back that may or may not have something to do with her rocket propelled toe. And a boy who rides to school on a goat. And a...well, just watch it and see. It's brilliant.

Put me down for, like, fifthing Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It's the only show I've ever watched where I finished it, then immediately turned around to watch it again. The fact that some pretty huge reveals happen late in the series is a big part of this, but still.

Watching the second series/reboot/whatever that is Negima!? and Mahoromatic (sic?). The Negima!? reboot is weird. It's a completely different story from either the manga or the first series. Have no idea where it's going, but at least Zazie gets more screentime.

Mahoromatic is one of those classic series out there. It's a Gainax series, so be well aware that the action that gave rise to the term "Gainaxing" shows up a lot.

Both are worth watching, but for different reasons.

Finished watching Highschool of the Dead about a week ago. Very fun series and I hope a 2nd season gets made.

HOTD +1

Nichijou is delightfully absurd, but somehow it doesn't have a frantic, over-the-top pace. It's good for a nice, relaxing chuckle.

Starting in on the new Season of stuff now. Some of it has me curious and a few others seem like a pretty big waste of time.

Mawaru Penguindrum - I have no idea what to make of this yet. First episode left me confused and wondering if I want to watch episode 2 or not.

Sacred Seven - Seems like a pretty standard hero boy beats up monster of the week series. Not bad for what it is.

Usagi Drop - I fell completely in love with this series after 1 episode.

Nekogami Yaoyorozu - Again not 100% sure on this series. looks like it will be fun...plus has the cutest god of Poverty I have ever seen

but my biggest joy is a new season of Baka Test

Based on first impressions, the new season looks pretty poor. Mawaru Penguindrum was so bizzare and non-sensical, I have to see where the hell it's going, but other than that, I don't think there's anything I'm gonna bother with (though I haven't seen Usagi Drop so if it really is that good, I might try it). Most of the stuff seems to be "comedy" about lolis...

Actually, just remember, there is one other: Nyanpire - a series of five minute shorts about a vampire cat. Need I say more

What I'm watching from the new season:
Shows I love:
-Kamisama no Memochou

Quote:
Narumi Fujishima is a plain high school boy, who has been isolated in the class. His classmate, Ayaka Shinozaki, invites Narumi to the gardening club and introduces a hikikomori detective named Alice to him. Alice hires Narumi as an assistant to solve mysterious cases involving an illegal drug \"Angel Fix\". But the drug entraps Ayaka into danger.
-Mayo Chiki!
Quote:
Konoe Subaru, 17, has been serving as the butler of Suzutsuki Kanade in school, a classmate of Sakamachi Kinjirou. Due to an accident, Sakamachi discovers Subaru\'s secret... that he\'s actually a girl!? Apparently she will be removed from her position if anyone at school finds out. What will unfold from this chain of events?
-Natsume Yuujinchou San
Apprently the third season to a show I never watched, I like it though

-Ikoku Meiro no Croisee
Quote:
The story takes place in the second half of the 19th century, as Japanese culture gains popularity in the West. A young Japanese girl, Yune, accompanies a French traveller, Oscar, on his journey back to France, and offers to help at the family\'s ironwork shop in Paris. Oscar\'s nephew and shop-owner Claude reluctantly accepts to take care of Yune, and we learn how those two, who have so little in common, get to understand each other and live together in the Paris of the 1800s.
Great slice of life story about a little Japanese girl living in France. She's adorable.
Shows I'm questioning:
-Kamisama Dolls
Quote:
Kyouhei, after moving away to Tokyo from his old town to get away from the events that happened, is on a goukon with his friends, including his old neighbor, Shiba. After drinking for a whole night, he and Shiba discover a dead, bloody body in the elevator. He is told by his younger sister, Utao with her Kamisama Doll, that Aki, an old friend, and his Doll are the culprits responsible.
Started off great introduced annoying character in Episode 2. I dropped it on the spot.

I usually 'try' not to base the new shows on first impressions, but the 'Summer' season is usually what I call a filler season, between Winter/Spring and Fall/Winter, since most of the supposedly (hopeful) big hitters are released then. I never get my hopes up about any season and watch what I can...the ones I don't care for eventually stop getting watched.

I watched Usagi Drop and will be following this one this season.

No.6 has caught my curiosity, so I'm going to follow this one and see where it goes.

I've watched some of the other new shows, but haven't formed an opinion one way or the other about them, and I'm waiting for the rest to air their first episodes....The Mystic Archives of Dantalian has my curiosity.

That is exactly how I felt about watching 'We, Without Wings - under the innocent sky'. There were many times the show had me going 'WTF?!', but I kept watching it to the end. >_>

I'm still following STEINS;GATE and anxiously look forward to the new episodes. The plot twists and the recent reveal have me hooked.

I'm going to recommend Gosick as a show to check out. It may not be for everyone since it's a Drama/Mystery/Romance hybrid, but it has an emotionally powerful final 3 episodes that more than make up for the slow first 5. The first 5 episodes seem to take forever, (though the whole series is beautifully drawn and it helps to distract you from that) but 6 - 8 lay the groundwork about Victorique's past and the episodes after that establish the underlying plot that unfolds in the second season.

Just finished watching "A Certain Scientific Railgun". Was pretty good
Currently watching the second season called "A certain magical index", so far so good!

Well, I've found one more new series that seems worth watching: Yuru-Yuri. I wasn't really expecting much, as it's one of those "girls do nothing at a school club" animes (which I tend to hate), but this one keeps it amusing with a demented sense of humour, a dash of fourth wall breaking and some rampant lesbian fantasies (think Maria†Holic....).

Also, Mawaru Penguindrum still makes no sense but I'm loving it

I thought I saw something about that in a weekly newsletter.

Ah...found it. Supposedly, Funimation is letting the Higurashi & Familiar of Zero licenses expire and is not going to get the license for the sequel or even series that somewhat resemble them. I dunno how accurate it is, so take with a grain of salt.

Once again, think it needs to be said...

Urusei Yatsura is going out of print in September. If you have any interest in picking up the series (50 discs just for the tv series, 6 for the movies, and 6 for the OAVs), now is the time. It's only going to get far more expensive as time goes on. Beautiful Dreamer is already hitting $60 in some places. AnimEigo's website has some of the dvds for $8 a piece (not Beautiful Dreamer though). I went through the hassle of trying to find Kimagure Orange Road after it went out of print, and that was only 12 discs. I do not want to do that again... >.<

Yes, it's an older series and the animation shows it (along with lack of dubbing). But it's still funny and one of the classics. You might recognize the name of the director for the first 106 episodes...Mamoru Oshii. The one responsible for Ghost in the Shell and a creative supervisor on an episode of the Halo Legends shorts (The Duel, the one that looks like a watercolor painting of an Arbiter fighting through hordes of Covenant).
