Agreed...I just finished watching it recently found it really entertaining. The Hideyoshi gender confusion is played well through the whole series.

I just finished watching Angel Beats, also, and found it to be a lot better series than I thought it was going to be.

I've never seen a censored release from Sentai (aka ADV) on disc. Only in broadcast form.

Got the BDs too, didn't really notice any censoring.

Home video releases for anime are hardly ever censored. Even Japanese networks have Standards and Practices. =P Which is why broadcasts get censored and... well, home video doesn't .
Home releases also have touched up art and animation.

If you have Netflix instant streaming those could be uncensored. But I could be wrong. But the DVDs and BDs are on sale at Right Stuf, 23.99 and 27.99.

These were very noticeable censorings and extremely poorly done. Take a look at Hulu episodes 4 where Rei gets accosted at the gas station and the scene in Rika's house when the four at taking a bath. The censoring amounts to turning large portions of the screen white. There's no attempt to at least make it along the lines of the bikinis drawn on characters in Tenchi Muyo, for example, when it was on Toonami.

Side note...Right Stuf is having their 12 days of Christmas sale. Some really good deals on that.

Yeah, I think they're left over from when Sentai was simulcasting it or something. But you get to see the fanservice censor free on DVD and BD.

And that Right Stuf 12 days thing is annoying me lol. There is about 1 thing from each day I want (as apposed to last year where there was nothing), but I just recently ordered the Yu Yu Hakusho Spirit Gun Bundle and am running low on money. >_<

I have a question and maybe someone here can answer, but it is pretty vague:

Quite some time back I saw a clip of some anime and would like to know the name. The clip had two girls facing each other in a darkened hallway. One had a knife, which she braced against the wall with the blade at head level. She then (seemingly under the other girl's mental control) began banging her head against it while the other girl laughed like a maniac.

Any ideas?

Probably, Higurashi: When They Cry (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni). According to wikipedia the scene is probably in episode 20.

Sadly it's out of print in the US and FUNimation lost the rights. It apparently underperformed. Luckily for me I bought the first boxset of it a few years ago. :P

Meh, there's out of print and there's OUT OF PRINT. I've almost completed my quest for UY. Just 2 more volumes to go and I'll have all 50 TV dvds, all 6 OVAs, and all 6 movies...

That's it (unless there's a similar scene in another show), but she wasn't being controlled.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

I'd have to go for
Black Butler (seriously, get the Japanese version...the English actors just don't give it justice)-Historical Fantasy
Record of Lodoss War (both OAV and TV versions) -Fantasy
Tiger and Bunny (*squee!*) It's a super hero based anime

Yup, that's Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When the Cicadas Cry). Awesome anime series. That scene is specifically seen twice. It's the opening hook scene for the second chapter (the Cotton Drifting Chapter), but actually takes place in the 4th chapter (the Eye-Opening Chapter).

And yeah, Rika was not being controlled. She took the easy way out, as staying alive was the more horrifying choice there. >.>

And a similar note, the 3rd episode of the Higurashi Kira OVA came out a couple weeks back. It focuses on Keiichi and which girl he may choose as his girlfriend (Mion, Rena or... surprisingly, Shion), with Rika, Satako and Hanyuu playing evil little cupids. Pretty funny stuff.

One last episode to go. I dunno what it's about, as the preview just showed random scenes of Rika and Hanyuu walking around together. It'll be out in January.

Finished watching Sword of the Stranger last night. Has a simple and straight forward story/plot, but it's a good watch.

+1

I also just started watching the Yu Yu Hakusho Blu-rays. The show looks good in HD.

Started in on Ah My Buddha. Fairly typical harem/fanservice/comedy show, but definitely had some laughs in there so far.

Only have one more disc left in my quest to complete all 62 discs in the Urusei Yatsura series.

Amaenaide yo!! and it's sequel Amaenaide yo!! Katsu!! are silly harem series. I watched them a few years back when a friend loaned me his digisubs (he's more of the harem/magical girl/psycho lolli fanboy than I am).

They really nothing to write home about.

I do like the sutra chants. They are very...almost hypnotic. Though I also do find Gregorian chant calming as well.

The thing that I guess bothers me about the show, is that they do the fanservice, but not actually show anything. They go to great lengths to get Ikkou in the situations, but then it's almost like Dark Helmet saying, "Fooled you!".

I do like the setup though, that the girls are representatives of the six realms and it kinda shows in their mannerisms. I'm guessing that Ikkou is supposed to be the conduit for the power or Buddha, if going by the show's title.

bandai-entertainment to stop releasing new dvds, bds, manga.

I figured this would happen, and it did, sadly. Their method of releasing series is basically what did them in. I was was worried when I heard they picked up the license for Gosick, now I'm sad.....Hopefully some companies will pick up the cancelled releases.

You mean that they were still trying to release single volumes when everyone else was moving to half-series or series releases? Yup. The days of being able to charge $20-30 for 3-5 episodes are done with.

I've only got a few Bandai series (that I'm interested in) to finish...Haruhi-Chan, Digi Charat Nyo, Galaxy Angel, K-On!, Code Geass S2, etc. Not very many though.

Sidebar, how does this affect Code Geass: Queen? That's a fairly funny manga.

Yeah, charging $20 - $30 for 3 to 5 episodes and their 'special' agreement with the few outlets they picked, outside their store, that locked them into that ridiculous pricing and not allowing any discounts at all.

I'm not sure how it'll affect that Code Geass manga, but my guess is if it's already in print, they'll keep it going for a bit and try to sell it's rights. I've been putting off K-On!....looks like I'd better get my act together, but I think this deal puts a long hold on it's second season, while they wait for someone to pick up it's rights

Looks like there's only two more volumes to Queen with volume 5 coming out in Feb.

K-On! Season 2 is probably never going to happen in R1. It depends on how the licensing contract reads. They may sublicense to some other company or it may revert to the Japanese holders. Regardless, it won't be put out by Bandai.

I went through my collection today and the list of stuff I need to finish buying is depressingly long. >.<

Since they're still producing manga (the college years), I still have hope.

Or Bandai could sit on the license for 5 years and it then reverts to the Japanese holders, by which time the fandom will have moved on to the next thing, IMO.

Just watched NGE 1.11 and 2.22 over that last couple of nights and they were epic. Really dig the alternate/revamped Angel forms. Gendo is still the biggest ******* to ever grace the small screen. Mari-chan is scary.

I wasn't talking about Bandai.

If one can speak Japanese and is willing to pay the absurd prices for R2 DVDs, then yes. For the rest of us, K-On! Ssn2+ is probably never going to be available, despite manga still being in production.

You're awfully pessimistic for a K-On! fan. I said I have hope; now leave it alone.
