Official Anime Recommendation Thread
Is it bad enough that Tara Strong is heading over to were i live at a convention? Because if so, i am looking forward to meet her next friday!
Who said that i was that scary! ಠ_ಠ
Just watched NGE 1.11 and 2.22 over that last couple of nights and they were epic. Really dig the alternate/revamped Angel forms. Gendo is still the biggest ******* to ever grace the small screen. Mari-chan is scary.

Movie 3 hits theaters in Japan this year and #4 hit theaters over there Summer 2013. I'm hoping Funimation has enough common sense to go after both of them.
Yup, Mari is scary, but you have to admit she was the perfect one to open the back door code, Beast, on Unit 2.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

Finished watching Bamboo Blade last night and it's a pretty funny one. Show following the exploits of a mostly girl high school kendo team. Tama-chan is about 8 kinds of kewt. She's a short-stuff, kendo prodigy-type who loves sentai anime. A couple of the last episodes get pretty heavy, thematically. Overall, a nice show.
Starting in on You're Under Arrest next.

BWAHAHAHA!
I finally finished getting all 62 volumes in the Urusei Yatsura series. That quest is at an end. I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel for getting a rather complete anime collection. At least in terms of "classics". It's kinda...scary...when I look at my anime bookshelves. My estate is gonna have a heckuva time when I eventually kick the bucket.
New anime show called "Another" it's wonderfully creepy so far. Been watching it on crunchyroll.
Finished Redline, and wow. Freaking amazing film. The visuals, art, animation, characters, audio, music, sound effects... everything about it is great. On top that, I think one of the amazing things is that it was hand drawn. 100,000 cels and took about 7 years to make. Fantastic movie and I would would give it more than a +1 if I could.

Picked it up based on a number of Reviews.
Not disappointed in the least! This is a must see! Old School Animation with Digital FX. So nice and wonderful to see and enjoy. Might just have to get the BD to have when I can get a BD player & HD TV.
+1 for Redline certainly!
Thank you for the time...

Picked up Darker than Black season #2. It's right on par with the first season, but you MUST watch the 4 part OVA first, or you'll be lost and the story will seem kinda pointless.
K-On fans can rejoice.

Well I give a thumbs up on the Studio Ghibli adaptation of the classic story The Borrowers that started last Friday, The Secret World of Arrietty. Even though it's not directed by Hayao Miyazaki, he did help write the adaptation.
Of course all the diehard Ghibli fans have seen it already but for those who haven't yet, it's good. Not as great as Totoro or Kiki IMO but still very enjoyable.

Saw Arrietty w/the GF yesterday. Wonderful film for sure. It will be a part of the Collection when it becomes available.
a +1 for this film as well.
Thank you for the time...
Seeing as the current season is ending, and I haven't posted in this thread for ages (partly cos I took a break from CoH, partly cos...dunno...), I might as well post my thoughts on recent stuff:
Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Sci-fi magical girls, music and weird alien things. Cheesy, predictable and great fun. If you want something where you can just sit back and enjoy the action (and the soundtrack), this should do nicely.
Aquarion EVOL - Aka Return of the Orgasm Robots. If liked the first series of Aquarion, you'll like this. If you didn't, you wont. If you've no idea what I'm talking about, it's a gratuitously OTT mecha show which seems to be focused on getting as much sexual innuendo past the censors as possible. Again, no classic, but it's damn entertaining.
Another - As others have said, creepy and very good. To say much more would be spoiling
Kill Me Baby - A sketch show about a schoolgirl assassin and her friend. Would be great as 5 minute shorts. Really drags as full episodes. The ending credits are cool though.
Rinne no Lagrange - Girls, mecha, flowers, suspiciously human aliens... I've still no idea whats going on here, but I like it...
Bodacious Space Pirates - I really wanted to like this. Girl inherits a pirate spaceship and...well...not much happens. The setting is interesting, the characters decent, but it's soooo sloooooow.
High School DxD - Tits. Tits. Tits. Oh, and some tits. It doesn't even have good action like Samurai Girls, let alone anything resembling a story. Avoid - you might as well just watch porn.
And a few other not new things I've seen in the last couple of months:
Basquash - It's basketball. In mecha. Yeah. Doesn't quite come together the way it promises to after 7-8 episodes, and the product placement makes Pizza Hut's sponsorship of the resistance look tame, but it's pretty fun none-the-less. DESTROY!!!!!
Le Portrait De Petite Cossette - An art student becomes obsess with the ghost (sort of) of an murdered girl. Not saying it's outstanding, but as it's only 3 OVAs, I'd say it's worth checking out, particularly seeing as the music is done by Yuki Kajiura.
Mai-HiME - This has been on my "to watch list" for some time, and I finally got round to seeing it. It very very nearly made it onto my "top anime of all time list". It's a sort of magical girl/mons hybrid type show, though the characters are a bit older than the usual for those genres. The early parts are pretty lighhearted, albeit with good action scenes. After the halfway mark, it starts getting much much darker, becoming a pretty brutal critique of your usual "happy" magic girl show. Then it blows it all with the last 10 minutes of the final episode which are unbelievably sucky. Still a good show, but it could've been sooooo much more
Mai-Otome - A sort of sequel to the above. Keeps the more upbeat feel through most of the show, though there are some darker moments. As such, the cheesily epic finale works much better than it's predecessor's. Very, very good if you want a proper action show. Less so if you're looking for some serious deep philosophisng or some such. The OVAs don't make much sense though...
I imagine people have watched this already but...
Picked up volumes 1-3 of Excel Saga on DVD from a charity shop (ordered 4-6 second hand from Amazon after watching them, annoying 4 and 6 turned up and 5 is yet to be delivered).
Now neither myself nor my friend have ever laughed quite so hard in a good long while, the dubbing is excellent and we really loved the weird randomness of it all but with atleast some plot.
Infact it got quite annoying because we can't simply skip volume 5 and watch 6 because the show seems to actually pick up more of a plot around episode 14.
But yeah if you haven't seen it and you have a tolerance for the weird I'd say go for it.
Badge Earned: Wing Clipper
A real showstopper!
If you like Excel, try Puni Puni Poemi. It's what happens when the same team turn their attention to the magical girl genre. The result is....interesting...
*shrug* I'm pessimistic about everything. It helps to deal with disappointment. If one never gets hopeful, they can never be let down.
