It is our great pleasure to announce the First Annual Architect Awards, which will be hosted at this year's Hero-Con!

To mark the occasion, MMORPG.com did a interview with our very own Joe "Hero 1" Morrissey on the Mission Architect so be sure to check it here!

Mission Architect set a new standard for customization in MMORPGs, infusing over 50,000 active story arcs and 200,000 submissions into the roster of City of Heroes missions. Mission Architect has become one of the most exciting features in City of Heroes because it connects the fun of playing a mission with the energy of player creativity and innovation.

We created the Architect Awards to honor outstanding achievements in Mission Architect, celebrating both story arcs and architects, and to promote this truly revolutionary feature that redefines how games are developed and enjoyed.

This year's awards will have a total of six categories, and the first five listed categories are eligible for player submissions:

1. Best Hero Arc: The best hero arc created in Mission Architect.
2. Best Villain Arc: The best villain arc created in Mission Architect.
3. Best In-Canon Story: The best arc that builds on and enhances the existing lore of City of Heroes in Mission Architect.
4. Best Original Story: The best arc not based upon previously published City of Heroes lore or characters.
5. Best Enemy Group: The best all-around enemy group in an arc (judged by a combination of powers, costumes, themes, and story).
6. Arc of the Year: This final, and pinnacle award, will be selected from all of the submitted arcs for the other five categories.

Nominees will be announced on Thursday October 22, 2009. Final winners will be announced at Hero-Con, Saturday, October 24, 2009.

Good luck! We look forward to playing your submitted Mission Architect arcs!

So non-Americans can't enter again.

Are you guys creating these threads in a "secret" area the Community Digest doesn't see, then moving them live? I swear this was not here yesterday at 12:50 PM. If you're doing this, it's effectively back-dating the posts, and people may be missing them. I would have missed the Double XP post if a friend hadn't alerted me to the announcement last night, which also seemed to show up out of nowhere, and I'd have missed this one if it wasn't for Twitter making me want to go check for a board post.

I could be wrong, and may have just missed them, but I am usually pretty thorough when checking the digests for new posts.

Anyway, I just wanted to bring it up, because you may be reducing the number of people that see these announcements if you're doing it that way, and I'd imagine you want as many people to see them as possible.

Hurrah for Mission Architect Awards! I'm going to try to find the time to make a new one by the 11th!

Please try my custom mission arcs!
Legacy of a Rogue (ID 459586, Entry for Dr. Aeon's Third Challenge)

Hmm. It says in the rules that you need to put the arc ID number that it is published in the architect under.

Does that mean that those of us that are unable to publish can't enter the contest?

Was just about to post this myself. Apparently our money is good enough for them, but not our entries. I know there are some legal reasons for this, but surely something could be done?? There's gotta be some way around this? Honestly, what is it that actually makes it impossible for people outside the USA and Canada to enter??

Finally, something that might have made me want to go in game a bit more and I there's no point

Interesting... I'll definitely have to get one of my non-RP arcs backup and running again (something tells me a Bleach-themed RP arc might not work so well).

Can a story arc be entered for more than 1 category? If so, how should the entries be handled?

This was one of the first results when I googled Contest Rules Law:

http://www.canimakebigmoneyonline.co...e-complicated/

I think the fear is that each country would have a different specific requirement, like the Canadian one mentioned. Paragon is an American company, so path of least resistance would be that they target Americans.

"Curse you Perry the Plata...wait, is that Love Handel?" - Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Phineas and Ferb

Rhode Island, in an effort to avoid several years' worth of statewide deficits and general indebtedness, legally ceded from the United States on 8 Sept 2009, and is now a protectorate of Spain.

On the upside, Rhoders have suddenly developed a love for good Spanish rioja wine. Sangria exports from RI to the US have increased 400%.

I would've thought we'd ceded to Portugal with the large Portugese community here...

...time to brush up on my Portugese and Spanish I guess...

After seeing Anthony Bourdain's special on the Azores, I was tempted to claim that, but I'm having a craving for sangria today, and Spain was the only nation that made the joke work.

Why do I get the feeling that this is the type of contest where the eventual winner is already on the short-list somewhere?

Seriously, if 5000 people nominate their own arcs for these awards, how many of them are going to be looked at closely?

If even 500 people nominate their own arcs...

That attitude will only guarantee that you'll lose for never having tried.

I'm hoping they pick out a fresh face, but I'll be submitting my own arc, cuz Papa Turg loves swag.

Sigh. I know Rhode Island sucks already, but to throw irony (seeing as how the game's locale is in a version of Rhode Island) and bizzare contests/competition laws to make it suckier (sp?)...they can't even participate as a state in simple nationwide contests without screwing things up...

Tell you what, if the eventual winner for Arc of the Year is an arc published between now and October 11th, I'll eat my left sock...

If the winner for Arc of the Year is an arc published sometime in the month of April (say, one of those storyarcs that had a headstart with the Closed Beta, like 80% of the "Developer's Choice" arcs) -- I'll toss my socks into the laundry, and treat myself to a pizza instead, having "called it"...

[An arc "republished" in the next two weeks doesn't count (unless it's pretty obviously been republished due to all the I16 MA changes)...]

If an arc published between I15 and October 1st wins the contest, well, they'll have my sincere congratulations and respect for their creative ability. (And, yeah, I might even lose a little bit of my deep cynicism about the Mission Architect system, and how it has impacted the game.)

Now how do I go about subscribing to this thread?!?

tl,dr: It looks like it's a criminal offense to offer contests like this to Rhode Island residents without filing the right advance paperwork and paying at least a $150 fee. They presumably decided it wasn't worth the trouble. One can only imagine how much more legal and financial hassle it might be to offer it to people in other countries, probably involving hiring a local lawyer or at least legal consultant for each country; not even counting the possible tax and corporate regulation issues.

Well, that's a damn shame, if really true.

Attach to the email the Mission Architect crittr, .cvg and .storyarc files, as well as five (5) screenshots. The screenshots must be RGB JPG image formatted files. Other file formats will not be accepted. The total size of the email including all attachments must not exceed 5 MB.
Um, the .critter and .cvg files are integrated into the .storyarc file. And honestly, given the number of revisions since MA came out (thanks to updates, group changes, map changes, item changes, etc.) I don't think any of my original files like that are particularly close to what's "live" now. Why not just have the .storyarc file, unless you're looking at the villain group category?

What about multi-arc arcs? (part1/part 2?)

I see I'm not the only person to notice;
"Open to legal residents of the United States and Canada"

Come on, guys, does the EU REALLY count for so little? I'm quite a creative person, I would have quite liked to have put one of my arcs up for contest.
Just...bah. Its so irritating.

Thanks, Miuramir! I was just doing the searches in our state's legislation and statutes, and you saved me going through a long list of statutes. Greatly appreciated!

Guaranteed, I'll be bringing this up with our local legislature and representative this month. This is absolutely ridiculous on Rhode Island's part. I'm sure it has a lot to do with many of the illegal gambling and contests that used to run out of here, but, again, this is too extreme and contrived a measure.

Kudos, and thanks again Miuramir!

Good luck to all you non-EU, non-Australian, non-New Zealand, non-Asian, non-African, non-Quebecian (sp?), non-Guamanian, non-military post staying, non-Puerto Rican, non-commonwealth and non-Rhode Islander contestants (and anyone else I may mave missed with a required 'non-' prefix for this contest)!
