We honestly don't know.

Considering I16 went Closed Beta yesterday, figure...

  • 3-4 weeks Closed Beta
  • 2-3 weeks Open Beta

That would put I16 to about mid to late September, early October at the latest.
But then again, I could be wrong...

Thank you for the time...

Hmmmm when does CO go live?? I figure for competition sake that i16 will be out at the same time or just before CO goes live.

The sooner the better!

I kind of agree, but I'd rather it have few bugs than be rushed out for competition's sake.

Welcome the the CoH/CoV forums.

As an FYI the Devs have never (and likely will never) set a specific date for the launch of a new Issue, especially when it's just started its closed beta.

Part of the whole point of software beta testing is to make sure it's ready to be released. The Devs can't possibly know if new code is ready to go until it's actually been tested. Therefore they can't announce a date until they know the results of the beta testing. Now I'm quite sure the Devs have a "planned" date in mind as a goal for the release. But they will never tell us what those goals might be publicly because if things slip they wouldn't want to have to deal with the fallout from that.

Using the history of this game as a guide the closest we get to an "official" announcement of an Issue going live is perhaps a few days prior at most.

As far as info we have about Issue 16 specifically Posi tweeted that this one would have a pretty short beta cycle. I'd predict we'll probably see this go live within 4-6 weeks, especially since that will closely coincide with that "other" game's launch date.

Well, they have given us release dates before, which was issue 5 I believe ... and that was the only time they have.

And when will it be released?

or

When it's done™

I read somewhere that they were expecting a fairly short beta process this time and that about a month after beta hit, it should be ready for live. Now, take that with a grain of salt because unforeseen things can happen to delay it.

Assuming that's true, I'm putting my money on either the week of Sept 8th or the week of the 15th. That will give them time to do the beta thing. Also that will give the players some time to go try the other game when it first starts up, then steal their thunder and draw them back.

This is all speculation. I wouldn't get too upset or antsy unless we don't see it until after Halloween. But I do want my metal spines!

If they are smart, 2nd october.

Why? Enough time to test everything but more inportant, the free month of CO will be over. At that point people gotta choose where to go, and if they kick in whooping issue 16 its easier to convince them sticking here rather then continue yet another month on CO.

If they were me: in about 3 hours.

As a Wonka fan, I have to point out that Violet Beauregarde was the child who turned into a blueberry, and it was Veruca Salt who sang the "I Want It Now" song in the first movie version of the book.

(Although, in the book, it wasn't Golden Egg laying geese that proved to be Veruca's downfall, but a trained squirrel who could tell a bad nut or not)

As I recall, they said at ComicCon that I16 would go into Open Beta 2 weeks after the 'Con, which would be about next Tuesday... Just my 2 cents...

Don't let yourself be fooled into thinking our Devs wouldn't modify their testing schedules in reaction to what other games are doing. Case in point the Devs released Issue 12 on the exact same day Age of Conan went live. That was of course the Issue that gave us Cimerora which was a "swords and shields" type zone vaguely similar to the whole Conan idea. At that point the Issue had only been in open beta for like a week and it still had some serious bugs. If the Devs were more worried about bugs than countering other games then I12 easily would have been in beta at least a few weeks more than it was.

It doesn't really matter if CO is a steaming pile of crap or not at this point. Right now it represents the greatest threat of competition this game will have (at least until DCUO arrives) so I totally expect I16 to go live as close to September 1st as possible. After all the main point of I16 (power customization) is clearly a response to what CO is going to be offering - the timing of that is NOT mere coincidence.

I'd actually quite be surprised if it was that short. Despite colour customisation being the big thing to test for I16, there is also a bit of set proliferation (ElA especially, with its new power), as well as some miscellany that probably deserves some good attention (like the new difficulty options). I'd say at least another week after and then Open Beta for a few weeks, only extending as long as they need to get the necessary bug fixes down. Then out in early September, find any remaining bugs that made it to live, shore as much as that up as possible, and be right on time for those players returning from CO!

When there is a minimal amount of game breaking bugs. (Can't say NO game breaking bugs, because of when AE was released and all the exploits available there, as well as crashes.)

DCUO needn't be a problem. It's a game that has to reach our level of expansions and content, before people go crazy over it. Right now, it's just a bunch of promises they know they can't fully make on the development side.

The trailer for DCUO showed how clunky the physics were anyways. Watch the part where the guy gets punched and clock the time it takes for him to get knocked away. Makes me laugh every time.

The devs have given us release dates in the past. They also stated that the release dates were always tentative, depending on whether the Issue was ready for release. I can't remember which Issue it was (it could have been Issue 5, as BigMoney states) but they wound up not releasing on the date they had given. Then, some of the players got irate and flamed the boards castigating the devs for breaking a promise--which the devs had not made; as I said, the release date was tentative.

So, they stopped giving projected release dates. Give some thanks to our fellow idiots (and i don't mean the devs).

Be warned....long rant coming:

I don't see why some people are getting all clamored about CO...I understand DCUO since DCUO is an actually franchise that has decades of fans, decades of possible story additions and decades of established material. CO is just a copy of a copy.

From what my friend tells me about the beta for CO, we have nothing to worry about that game is a hotter piece of poo than warm manure.

I personally do not like the cartoon comic book look, reminds me of color by the numbers for the blind. It is too reminiscent of WoW and w/o the WoW standards.

I saw an interview where good ol' statesman is mentioning all of the things that "This" superhero MMO would have, he makes comments bout how "This" MMO will have detailed character creation, where you can place blasts locations or any of that.

As for DCUO, their base premise is the fan base and physics object...I hate that term...Physics Object...everything in physics can be an object...stoopid DC, instead they should call it interactables...sounds better.

But yea, DCUO is going for previous decades worth of integrity and intractables. CO is going for customization that we already have a heavy foothold on and by stating that they are the first to offer such details is a joke seeing as it was Jack Emert himself that made so many problem from what I recall.

If NCSoft really feels like they are in trouble and have to rush issues to compete then they are personally looking at it from the wrong point of view. If they want to compete they must add more content and enough in-game events to keep the consumer base active. Going Rogue will be step in the right direction but in general, the Devs need to add more content, lore, stories. Giving us a few zone revamps, Fixing PvP in the future will help, adding new non-proliferated powersets.

In the long run, CoX has legitimate competition from DCUO and only for the large consumer pool of resources like movies, comics and a consumer base that is multi-demographical.

Well I've been playing this game pretty regularly since the beginning and I don't remember any "set-in-stone" fixed release dates for any Issue.

There might have been some "tentative" ballpark dates tossed out here or there and maybe that happened for Issue 5 in particular. But the Devs have never really been dumb enough to open themselves up for posting fixed dates for anything really.

As far as the "fellow idiots" who complained when expectations weren't met that's not just a situation this game has to deal with. That's been a general concern of software developers for decades. As a software engineer IRL I know it's always balancing act between meeting announced expectations and the realities of getting the job done.

As far as I can recall our Devs have always been mindful of these trade-offs. Silly people are going to be upset whether they understand what's going on or not.
