That's your "dangit"??? That you were joking?

How about the "Dangit, WHEN THIS WEEK?" Or "Dangit, then when with the I16 open beta forums start up?" or any of the other "dangit" things suggested?

My vote is on the "when this week" one.

Robin

What does account downtime have to do with I16 open beta? Just asking

Maybe nothing, but then again, you never know. Just interesting about the two events.

For all we know the Devs might decide that letting it go open beta over the weekend would be enough for this Issue. That would certainly allow it to "interfere" with that other game's headstart as much as possible.

The three key features publicly known about for I16 (power customization, mission difficulty settings, super-sidekicking) are all things that have been in closed beta for several weeks now. These features are not completely trivial but they are certainly less complex than say the entire AE system. If they all aren't already reasonably working this very minute then I'd say we might as well not even worry about this thing being ready by October if they are having -that- much trouble with it.

Basically Sept 1st is looking unlikely now, but I wouldn't say it's completely impossible quite yet.
I wish someone out there would have predicted this might happen.

I am so convinced that issue 16 will go live on 9/1, that I took that whole week off from work to play the game...so much to do....so much to do!

Unlikely...Sept. 1st is less than a week away and open beta hasn't even begun. Additionally, open betas "traditionally" last a few weeks. Even if open beta were to start tomorrow, there will still be a few weeks before it goes live....

....unless, of course, you are using the wrong terminology, and you expect open beta to begin on Sept. 1st, which is entirely possible.

EDIT: Well, open beta began today, so let the few weeks to "live" begin

As I implied/predicted a few days ago in this thread there's really nothing "traditional" about the timing of this particular Issue. Based on the significance September 1st has on the superhero MMO world I still would not be surprised to see this Issue go live next Tuesday or at least by the end of next week.

Very true. Marketing strategy can have quite an impact on a company's bottom line.

This is what I expect as well.

you know, after checking out the travel powers from CO from a youtube vid ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noayIOJP6EQ ) I notice ALOT of their animations... look extremely similar to ours, especially the flight ones with hover and in flight, arms, legs, poses... all practically 100% the same... and the wing flap. you figure they would at least make the shoulders move to simulate the muscle flexing the wings to make them flap but nooooo..... lol in my mind after watching a few youtube vids on CO... I gotta find my eyewash cause I feel dirty...

Personally, I think that there's going to be at least 2 weeks of Open beta simply because there hasn't been any Pre-download on live. But that may be me looking at something rational

The forums are no place for rational thought!

All of the sound effects are all pretty much the same too. However, it was Crypitic Studios that originally made CoH, so I guess those sound effects are technically their property.

Many of the sound effects from CoH seem to come from a generic commercial library of sorts. I recognized different sounds from another games, for example the thermal heal is the same sound as the boss spawning in Doom 2, which also used a generic library.

Also the same as Tachyon Tanks in Dark Reign. Several People have commented before about hearing the Atlas Park music (the tune that plays when you first load in on a new character) in commercials, and a few others have mentioned hearing the police drone chatter om various places. They're from some public doimain SFX library, like you said.

However, had Cryptic developed them for CoH, they would no longer own them since Crytpic sold the CoX IP a few years back. It'll be interesting to see if NCSoft feels the similarities to be striking. I wonder why NC didn't negotiate for a non-compete clause.

Cryptic can't sell intellectual property it doesn't own. Just like they can't give NCSoft the right to publish Windows or VisualStudio or any of the software they might use, sound effects from a commercial (or even non-commercial) library aren't theirs to sell, either. Nearest possibility is that they might transfer their license to NCSoft and be required to buy a new license.

Also, non-compete agreements are void in California, Cryptic's home state (CA Business & Professions Code section 16600), even if the agreement was formed under the laws of a different state (Application Group, Inc. v. Hunter Group, Inc., 61 Cal. App. 4th 881 (1998)). People in California can't be contractually restricted from engaging in otherwise lawful business. Even if it's signed in blood, notarized by the Pope, and you break down on the stand and admit you signed it, it's still void; in the eyes of a California court, it's as though the agreement does not exist.
