It'd be funny if in a couple of years we look back at all this and say Cryptic would have been better off if they had just developed a better costume creator for CoX and sold it to Paragon Studios.

SWG already had it's mass exodus when they did the NGE. It's players are scattered around in a lot of current games...I think most games will lose a good chunk of active players when TOR comes out. Not saying they'll all quit their current games, but there are a *lot* of SWG refugees out there.

I was in SWG for the opening weekend and played for two years. (left well before NGE). At that time I jumped ship to COH. I am a fan of both genres. I have not checked out SWTOR, but if its any good, I may take it up and either reduce/suspend my current two accounts.

I hear that...
I also left SWG before the new NGE...

I wont jump ship of this game though....i like City of Heroes.....so far i have not found any other games that offer the things it offers...

And i dont know...Champions Online and StarWars Knights of the Old Republic....I just cant seam to like them from what i have seen of them...their graphics just dont impress me....the ui and game play seams a bit sluggish and well....they both seam to be doing alot of hype to sell themselves....its like i am not sure who they are trying to convince that they are really great games....the public...or their own design teams.

Unless you thought that combat in NWN, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect was innovative and involving.

Bioware writes really good stories, and I love all their games for that, but they really have trouble with the actual game element of the games they put out.

Hey! MXO lasted 5 years, and lets face it was a great game when launched the only thing that was an issue was that it wasn't supported by the company to which it was sold after release. Therefore died because content was almost non-existent.

My point being it could have been made great... CO has nothing to build upon. The system itself is flawed and would take an overhaul, revamped beta, to succeed or come close to COX

I think TOR will still pull in a lot of RPers, because Bioware can be counted on to create a very rich game world, even if the actual gameplay might be a bit lacking.

Why does everyone want to trot out TOR as the big-bad?

The game isn't even aiming for the same niche market as CoH. The games that are, CO and DCUO, are also hoping to hit it big in the console-game market as well. Computer and console games have not been able to play well together so far. And Cryptic is even shunting that part of it's market down the line

DCUO is another story. The art direction is great. But the premise, that you get to fight beside the great iconic DC chars, is kinda off. You get to be reminded constantly that you are about 10% of the hero that they are. And that Bus you just threw? it acts exactly like it was an inflatable beach toy!

Hey kids! I snuck this dumpster into the concert! Let's bat it around

As much as those hurt by the NGE wish it wasn't true....SWG still has players. The populated servers arn't that dead. The game feels fairly alive to me.

Maybe. But this is now EAoware. The same EAoware that screwed us out of the long awaited and anticipated Dragon Age multi-player because they felt it would hurt TOR's sales. I really expect nothing from them anymore except that every game will have lesbians and a ton of gameplay exploits. If that's what roleplayers look for in an MMO... have at it, by all means.

Chances are that TOR and Dragon Age won't be releasing anywhere near each other. I'd also like to see your logic behind this since BioWare games, rather traditionally, do not have online play. At least in recent years.

Plus, lesbians and gameplay exploits are available in abundance here.

I was being ironic, yes.

It was stated in an interview way, way back around when BioWare announced that the Neverwinter Nights like multiplayer mode was being cut from the game. The reason was that either EA or Bioware were afraid that leaving it in would hurt the sales of their MMO.

DA has been in development for a very long time and was originally dubbed as the unofficial sequel to Neverwinter Nights by BioWare themselves.

I could touch on how ludicrous the hype for Dragon Age has been as well, if you'd like. Though I'd rather not totally derail this thread.

Regardless, I'm hardly sweating TOR. The game to watch, in my mind, for us roleplayers is: The Secret World. That and I guess World of Warcraft: The Cataclysm. Though, hey, on the upside, that one should reduce our furry numbers some.

I hope TOR is good. I like star wars. But the numerous suggestions from the SWTOR forumbase worries me. Most of them are terrible. Tons of "make PVP unavoidable! No communication between sides! Make a cap on how many of each side can be on a server at a given time!" and such. Bioware adopts any of those ideas, would kill the game to me.

That's pretty normal, though, and most game developers are smart enough not to listen. Another example would be the WoD MMO forums where you had the population clamoring for perma-death and unavoidable PVP along with instant death if you should happen to log in during the sunlight, etc.

All very bad ideas that will never be listened to because they are game-breakingly bad.

you know, i honestly had a dream last night that i received an in game pop up saying 81 days. i dont think that was right though. if for no other reason that release date was spelled relese d8. :/. i must really not have a life when i cant even get away from coh in my dreams.....

As a fan of the WoD and someone awaiting the WoD MMO I can say this.. WoD fans are snobs.. lol.. pretentious unrealistic snobs. So many way to basically play their Table Top pen and paper gome on-line.. and that just will not work.

Champions.. if I could of gotten into the Beta I might of bought the game.. but I'm not going to pay FilePlanet $15 to try a game I might not like or that my comp might not handle..

SWTOR is still YEARS away.. and not exactly the main compitition of CoH.. if it's good you might see a dent in WoWs numbers..

DCUOL.. again.. is still at least a year away.. and I'll hold off my judgement until I see more. I like the idea of being able to join the DCU teams.. and fighting with the big names sounds fun.. but it will depend on how it's implemented..

SWTOR and DCUOL are not years away. I would expect them to be out next year at the latest. As for CO I think some may leave but will be back once they realize that all it is is WoW with super heros. As of today I can say that I was in the closed beta and I like very little about the game but that is just my opion

Yeah, I think we're looking at a fourth quarter 2010 release date for TOR aren't we? Not sure about DCUO because the game has looked like complete *** thus far.

did you really ask this question? youve been registered for almost 3 years here (longer than me), you should know the answer already . . . we dont know when and when its ready to go live or into open beta the DEVs will tell us.

i think someone should make an F.A.Q. section about new issues so we can stop gettin junk post like this all the time.

RED CAP DAGGERS: if you want them red side on infinity, send a pm i have the mission to get them for dual blades.

Expect a September 1st launch for it then

There's so far no expected release date for DCUO, because they're still in alpha testing. There's no "beta." I played it at Comic-Con, and even there, it was freezing up for some people during the 1-level demos and PvP... They're not even CLOSE to thinking about a beta right now. They just wanted to create a buzz for the game early on, while there was a buzz already going on about "comic book MMOs."

Expect some major changes in that game before it ever hits beta. In fact, I fully expect it to make another appearance at next year's Comic-Con without having been released yet.

Why's that? It's not like it's a boxed expansion. Plus people might be more likely to play whatever comes out first.
