Quote:You never asked for anything so it's hard to give it to you. I'll install my mind reading device.Since you don't want help, illustrated by your reluctance to provide what was asked for, I'm done here. Sorry we couldn't diagnose your problem but we aren't NCSoft's technical support and some of us really don't like to take pot shots in the dark about what might be the problem or play 20 questions.
I do hope your problem goes away. -
Tried exiting all programs I could. No change, unfortunately.

Quote:I'll try closing steam and other programs and running the game tomorrow. I'm going to bed now. That is why they wanted the report. Unless they've fixed it, there have been issues of steam causing trouble lately with CoX! That said, I'd like to point out (to those that haven't read my post-build thread) that CoX crashes on me if I even Think of alt-tabbing! It doesn't cry if it's out of focus, but if I do anything to minimize the window, then it crashes. I'm not worried about it yet, just pointing it out as once I get my Real GPU, then the issue should be resolved.
As for hijackthis. I ran it but didn't post it because it's horridly inaccurate on 64bit systems and randomly reports a ton of system files are missing when they aren't. -
Quote:I tried 8 other games including online ones. Absolutely none had a problem besides COH.You may have to tell us what other programs you have running. If the cause is alt tabbing then don't alt-tab. What program are you going into that you need to alt-tab to?
I went alt-tab out of the game in full screen mode with 4 different computers, from a high end 2500K computer to a rather lowly 3 year old Dell laptop with an Intel graphics card and I did not have this audio skipping issue you speak of. CoH software isn't an issue or it woiuld be easy to reproduce by others.
Generally running in the background are
Firefox
Windows media player (not always)
Yahoo messenger
Steam
Microsoft security essentials
And if the only solution is "don't ever let COH alt tab for any reason" then I'd rather not play as being able to fully use my computer is more important than that. -
Quote:I set the entire thing on the very minimum (all graphics at minimum) possible and it persisted.Since you still haven't posted a HiJack This report, it's difficult to tell what else could be interfering.
Also, I just noticed, playing the game at 1920x1080 on a GT 430 may be asking a little to much for that card at your current settings. Have you tried selecting a lower resolution as see if it affects your audio problem?
Did you want a hijackthis report? Wasn't aware I needed to post one.
Edit: Is hijackthis even a good idea? I hear it has issues with 64 bit windows anyways and isn't accurate when reporting on them. -
At this point I'm assuming there is no way to fix it, which is very unfortunate.

Quote:I don't know anything about OpenGL. All I know is I've tested several games and even downloaded a HUGE MMO just to test if it was maybe related to online, but that game has no issue either.So...unless my understanding of the tech is flawed, then it sounds like there's a chance that it's an OpenGL issue. :-/
I've played COX for years on older rigs and never had an issue but on this one constant audio. But if it was specifically the systems fault, then I would expect other games to be having similar problems but it's just City. -
Quote:Yes. Issue persists if the window at any point in time is not on top.Interesting. Some people have encountered video issues alt-tabbing from fullscreen mode. I don't see why it would affect audio, but have you tried running the game in windowed mode?
Edit: Tested in another MMO. Issue does not happen there, either. Whatever causes the issue is COX related. -
Quote:Already tried it. One of the first things I tried. Nothing.Try to set your audio mode to Compatibility in lieu of Performance. That -may- solve your problem.
Edit: An update. I have singled out the trigger cause of the skipping. Alt tabbing. I can go a long time with it not occuring but once I alt tab it starts immediately. I tested this in Dues Ex Human Revolution as well and it did not occur even when alt tabbing a dozen times over a long play session. It's either only occuring in COX or it's related to online games. I don't have another online game on this PC to test that theory, though. -

Quote:Tried them. Problem persists.

Quote:I'm not sure what the latency meter means. It's all green and very consistent, though.Yea, that was a stupid comment.
Have you tried defragging the game files. Maybe it's a problem with choppy drive access.
Have you checked out your system's latency? Here is a simple testing tool for that.
I tried a complete reinstall of the game, same issues.
And if it's the drivers, I wouldn't know where to get any more recent ones because these are the latest drivers on Asrocks site for this board. -
Quote:I already downloaded the drivers from there. Didn't help.Did you use the Drivers that came with the motherboard? Try going here if you don't have the disk. http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.us...=B75M&o=Win764
GT430 is a fairly low end video card yet you have Windows 7 Ultimate?
And why wouldn't I have windows 7 regardless of what video card I had? -
So I'm a returning player, haven't played in a year. Since last playing I've gotten a new PC and I'm getting one major issue. Audio constantly skips. It's like a strobe effect and for every one second of good audio I get one second of a skip. This doesn't happen at first and just gets worse the longer the game is running. I don't think it's related to lag because I'm getting solid 30 fps in combat with tons of powers going off and the issue persists when just standing around in Mercy Island with 60+ FPS. I've tried updating my audio drivers (those are the latest I could find) and the issue persists. It doesn't make the game unplayable but it makes it required to disable audio because it's so annoying.

Here was a choice I actually liked because it wasn't a faction switch choice (which is what I call them as that is all they are.)
It takes place during Praetor Tilmans arc (the end, I think) where you must choose to either let Vanessa devore go or take her in. Assuming both choices are true at face value (I chose to take her in. I assume she doesn't still get captured if I were to let her go) the reason this is better to me is because it gives me a way to actually choose the direction of my story instead of boiling everything down to blue or gold. Choosing to let her go DID NOT change me to resistance for no reason other than needing to hammer in the faction change some how. -
Quote:I played Lotro before it went F2P.I think people will be taking a critical eye to the Lotro model after not too long. Also, it would be interesting to see what the community of Lotro players who pre-existed Lotro think about the model now and in the future.
I'll admit it's the most well done F2P method (actually allowing you to earn these microtransaction points in game). I still hate F2P as it adds tons of microtransaction stuff that gives bonuses (and it did for LOTRO. Alot.)
Though LOTRO was ruined by the Mines of Warcraft copying expansion. -
Quote:Main difference is that IO's are not the next evolution of my characters and the next way of leveling my character up and doesn't have content designed around it and could still be bought at the AH.You know, this whole thread reminds me of something from not that long ago:
"What? A LotG costs 240 reward merits?! I get 10 merits for a story arc while a Positron TF grants 60?! That is SO UNFAIR TO SOLO PLAYERS!!! Why should I have to team to get reward merits faster, I should get the same number for the same amount of time spent. If a Sister Psyche takes 2 hours and grants 40 merits, I should get 40 merits for 2 stary arcs that take the same time to do."
Anyone else remember that argument that went round and round when merit rewards were introduced? This isn't the first time the devs have given players a more time consuming method of gaining rewards while solo to appease the players who refuse to team for whatever reason.
Bottom line: The devs did not HAVE to give solo players an option at all. But they did, and predictably enough, the complaints started immediately because it takes longer than running a single task force.
It's also no different than PvP IOs costing 35 A Merits. Yes, you have been given an option to avoid the activity that is supposed to reward them, but getting them without doing that activity is going to take a long time.
That says to me that the devs want people to earn their Notices though the WTF and Incarnate Trials, because they made the alternative incredibly time consuming. And looking at recent game history, it is not the first time it has been done like that.
If the devs want us to do it that way, fine. I have no problem calling them out on a horrible decision that ignores a large portion of the playerbase in exchange for doing a reptitive task over and over again just like EVERY MMO END GAME EVER. -
-
So why not program it so you cannot do both and can only craft once every 3 weeks instead of putting in badly?
-
Or they could of just balanced Praetoria in the same way as Paragon 1-20 and the Rogue Isles 1-20 instead of making it needlessly harder.

Quote:BM is brute force. You do nothing special but move around to avoid her attacks and then beat on her. What rules? They deal a new damage type. It's no differen than invuln having a psi-hole, onlyit applies to all tankers. (and not just tankers) and thus require some different tinkering.
BM *isn't* a brute force thing precisley becuase of the mechanics (she has a very good DOT patch that forces you to move around) yes, in a sense it's a brute force thing in that it requires you to get her HP down to zero, but then again, this IS a superhero game, where ultimately, everything comes down to punching
One of the things I've always liked with COH is the wide variety of powers and tricks enemies throw at you. The DEV's seem set on expanding that.
EDIT: And oh, what exactly would you consider NOT to be a brute-force encounter?
Honestly the only encounter in game that I might consider not straight up brute force is Web Recluse. You have to destroy the towers to get to him. BM is just "beat on her, avoid her attacks. AKA EVERY AV EVER" -
Quote:Well BM really is still just a brute force thing. All it requires is that the players move from her cheap "I WIN!" button power. Outside of that it is just brute forcing. Honestly, Recluse is probably the closest to requiring a specific strategy. That's maifestly untrue: Ever since Romm there's been an emphasis on different strategies (that rommy is brute-forced moreoften than not nowadays is a result of us becoming more powerful) BM is a perfect example: She's far smaller a number than Reichsman, but she has some abilities that makes the encounter play differently. The same is true for the STF (LRSF less so, although even there the supporing abilities of the Freedom Phalanx make it a somwhat diferent fight)
I'd also say the towers in the BAF falls under "game is cheating" that Sam said. From what I heard it basically magically kills tanks and cuts through them like a hot knife through butter, ignoring resistance (and thus the rules). -
Quote:I have actually never got a shard solo. Call me a liar or call it bad luck but I've heard others who didn't even know they dropped solo because it never drops for them.I believe the 400 hour # came about for the Very Rare [480] from scratch, not the Notice. Which adjusting for that comes out ~ 74hr. Still an exceptional amount of time. And a closer number to the 1 shard/hr rate cited elsewhere in this thread.
400 hours is too much for either of them. 400 hours should be more close to 51-60 (the rest of the incarnate stuff) total. You've thus made it about 4 times longer than 1-50. I think that's a good start.
