Ok I have a dumb router questions, but this community is so helpful, I thought I would post it.
I have been using an several year old linksys wireless router (802.11b) connected to my time warner cable modem. It is slow at times and sometimes needs reset.
I got a brand new computer and the guy threw in a netgear wireless N-300. He said it was older but I am sure it is newer than the one i have. Is that good enough to warrant the time of changing them out and resetting everything up, or is it just going to be the same? -
Couple general questions. Is 6 (or 8) cores overkill? My search on the net came up with yes. However, I am also looking to future-proof a little and I also like to dual and triple box this game at times. Or I would like to run CoX or STO, while watching stuff I download on a second monitor, so 2 monitor support is a key feature. How do I know if the computer is capable of that?
Anyway I am open to suggestions. I am in the $600-$800 price range. Would like at least 6 core just because I am a guy. 8 Gb is enough. Dedicated graphics card is essential (or else i would just go to walmart). Would like to keep it to the lower end so I can add a 20-23 inch monitor to go with my current 17in. I currently get by with my old 100GB HDD since i have a 1.5tb usb external. So I like the idea of getting a 100gb or so SSD drive and (maybe moving over my current 120hdd) and keeping the external for mass storage.
Because of my price range I cant get everything i want, and have to sacrifice in an area. What is the best to sacrifice in? I have looked through newegg tiger and have some I like, just want to find the best fit, so figured I would ask the great community here. -
Ok I am also looking at getting a new machine, so I will latch on to this thread instead of creating yet another one.

Thanks for that. The problem with getting a HP off the shelf at walmart is that while I COULD put a upgraded card in the pci express x16 slot eventually, I will most likely also have to upgrade the power supply at that point too.

Quote:[Add the usual response about how they can release this as a costume power because it is complete unto itself, but they can not release the parts because they would not fit (or clip) with other pieces that you could combine it with.]Am I alone in thinking just would have preferred to have the costumes rather than the be able to transform into them?
[Add the usual response that they should release it even though it clips because they release enough other stuff that clips.] -
Well I am currently running on a older Compaq Presario SR5223WM with the integrated nVidia GeForce 6150SE. I upgraded to 4GB (though only getting 3GB due to the 32-bit thing) and while my settings are low they are ok and I get fair performance most of the time. I even run multiple instances (2 or 3) in this setup.
I am thinking about getting a new PC and getting something basic and upgrading and looking at a machine that comes with the integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200. Will I see a big difference in what I have been using. I can always put a card in the PCI express x16 slot when I save up a little more, but will the integrated run me ok for the time being?? -
Two is the number, the extra 2 you heard about was not for a boxed copy of the game, it was specifically for purchasing Going Rogue. Going Rogue came with 2 slots when you purchased it, and so you get to keep them if you had GR.
The thing about that box copy was that you got an extra reward token for it. While reward tokens are one per month GOING FORWARD from now, you only received one token for the 3 month veteran status you had before. You received one FREE token that everyone gets, and you received one token for the box copy (Hence why you have three reward tokens..) -
I hate to disagree, but it was quickly announced. It was announced less than 2 hours before they did it. Usually maintenance is done at 7am or 9 am EST, not 11 EST and usually announced the evening before. Seems like something that just came up this morning. Now we probably do not know why, but I asked because sometimes it is a reported problem (like 100 people reported something wrong with Street Justice after it was released, etc. or suddenly nobody could launch a BAF trail)
-
Was something broken that they quickly announced a later than usual and not the usual day maintenance period for 11am today? I can only assume it is a hot-fix for something.
-
I admit to doing $50 on my 2cd account. mostly to buy more character slots, but the extra reward tokens were helpful since that account was only active for three years.
-
My biggest question is whether you can refer an inactive account on the same master account.
-
I have one of every different mastermind planned now that I can have them (easily) blueside. I was originally going Robot/FF because of stacking the FF's with tier-2 pets FF's. Stacked defense is usually considered the best. However, there is no debuffs with FF. I know stacking Son resist bubbles with FF bubbles from the pets is not the most effective, but with the debuffs that Sonic brings, it might be pretty feasible. Anyone with any thoughts?

I was hoping the character slots would come down some. I know they were the equivalent prices on beta as they were in the past, but was hoping they would come down because that is the biggest purchasing i will be doing across my accounts.

I had the whole day free, and would catch the Andy Bellford Tangent Show all day anticipating launch, but they called me in to work the lunch shift at work tomorrow. 10am EST to 2ish EST. I should still make it back in time for servers up. Would rather sit around and have Ustream fun. However, I will work because it is extra money and I will take whatever I make in tips to the bank real quick on the way home and spend it on purchasing PP points to go with my stored up points. YEA YEA! (See that is being smart)
-
FPARN? I am not affected by this change, so I do not want to minimize their disappointment, but I do know it helps to know and thank you for the information.
So Zwill, will you be performing showtunes on Ustream for us tomorrow during the marathon update (looks like 9 hours planned). -
I know I do not have USE the respecs now, but do I need to 'Claim' them from the badge screen. That is my question. I do not normally claim them until they are needed.

Quote:Yea your oblits would be worthless and not function while you are premium. BUT before you strip them out of your build, you need to ask yourself some quick questions.I'm sorry. I'm dense. I'm obtuse. I'm lazy. But where is this information found?
My understanding was that if you let your sub lapse and go to free to play you could no longer do certain parts of the game, like Praetoria and Incarnate stuff. How'd I miss this part about IOs being null and void?
A level 50(+1) toon with a set of Oblits in burn would be like a level 50 with nothing in burn?
I'm not enjoying that one bit. I've already paid for that stuff - (in WW). And my understanding is that Wentworth's is off limits, too.
As soon as I confirm this, I'll respec that toon and get those IOs out, at least as many as I can.
The most important is "Are you permanently downgrading to premium status?" If you are planning on going back and forth between premium and VIP as $$ allows, then do not take them out. Remember we HAVE A SECOND BUILD that you can use. Make a second build of all SO's so you can keep your IO build around for when you return to VIP status.
Now if you know you are going premium forever, then you can get those Oblits out and sell them before I21 hits to get the $$ back for them. But ONLY if you plan to never need them again (i.e. future VIP status). -
It is also important to note that while it is $2 a month (depending on final pricing) for an IO license it is NOT a subscription (for those people who have some special abhorrence for subscriptions. You would have to buy $15 worth of points (if that is lowest purchase you can make) and then you would have enough points for seven months worth of IOing (and you would also get a Reward token as well.)
This option may be quite advantageous to your friends with the new $1.99 account. Having purchased the 'box' albeit at a greatly reduced price, they will get the premium status and one Reward token for the box which will get them level 2 status and the level two unlocks including supergroup access, supergroup and tell channels, etc.
But by buying even one more set of $15 of Paragon Points allows you another token which can be used to unlock the first vet weapon choice (Sands of Mu or Ghost Slaying Axe). To me that is a great QoL improvement. :-) Unfortunately it would take another $30 (either two months sub, or more PP's) to fully unlock global channels and such, but its a thought too. -
Actually if you have never purchased Going Rogue, you will lose access to those power sets
Demon Summoning (you lose access to MM's anyway possibly)
Electric Control (you lose access controllers but could not use it for Doms either)
Dual Pistols
Kinetic Melee
But your claws guy should be good.
Also you may have bought Going Rogue, and my point is moot for you, but someone else may see it. -
No the devs have said that if you had bought GR you would get the two free slots to unlock as well. That is the Free 2 + GR Code 2 = 4 Total.
-
Now this will be different for a NEW player coming into the game, but for a person using a these as a second account, it is a good idea. Buy the box, only create two characters for now during the free month. When Freedom hits you will be premium with T2 unlocks (which does get you SG access if you have a personal SG like I do)
The sweet spot to me in using as a extra account is getting the T4 unlocks. MA w/rewards and reward merits, etc. If this is a extra account you will not need new powersets unlocked or AT's unlocked, just make those characters on your main account. (Tier 7 would be nice for the use of IO's but that would be very expensive.)
So my thought would be take that account once Freedom hits, buy 7200PP ($90 unless there is a bulk discount price) and buy like 20 more slots (6400PP) leave the other 800PP for 5 months of IO licence once you get some characters up in level.
So now for the price of a 6 month sub, you can have 22 slots, free forever, with T4 reward unlocks. Might just be worth a looking into. -
Actually Tony, you get ONE Reward token for having purchased a box copy in the past. So these accounts should be automagically given one reward token on top of the completely free one getting them to Tier 2 and the Tier 2 unlock permissions.
-
Quote:I am tempted to start a fourth and fifth account this way....I'm tempted to start a third account this way... >.>
I don't have a problem. I can stop any time I want.
Just trying to figure out If I start them to get a couple extra free "premium" character slots will they even be playable with only Tier 2 Premium Unlock Permissions. -
Now I understand that you can only use one of each 'box' type on the same account, but I have a third account that I purchased a GR code cheaply for (found it in the sale bin), but never even paid a second month on it. Since I have not used a original CoH box code on it, would I be able to add it to that account? I can understand that I will not be able to add a cheap $2 month to my main account that has been around since a month after launch, but might this work on a recent GR account to add a cheap month?? Just asking.

What we know, was what was put in this thread.
