    Ninja Run

Are you all talking Lawful/chaotic good/evil in first ed, second ed, third ed, or fourth ed terms. It does in fact matter.

First ed... GM fiat to mess wit hyour character every time they act against their alli even though you really dont know exactly what that means.

Second ed... Still GM Fiat, but mosre described as: Lawful -> You follow local laws or code placed upon you. You will not break them under any circumstance. Chaotic -> You follow your own morality, and it might follow local laws, but that is only a concidance. Good -> You value life, and will destroy or turn anything that hinders life. Evil -> You will walk on and take every shortcut to help you, even if that means murder. By these, I tended to make the rule that any player must have at least 1 neutral, unless they are a paly.

Third ed... No longer GM Fiat. Lawful -> You follow some code, even if its the code of the land. You will not break this code, and ontop of it, you will respect laws (but still might break them) of whereever you happen to be. For instance, if the law allows for slave trade you will NOT interfere. Your word is your bond. Chaotic -> You believe in freedom. you are not bound to any rules, nor does your word nessessairly mean anything. You will free a slave because noone should be bound. Good -> You fight for what is good for the group. Heroic sacrifice, taking one for the team.... being Spock at the end of Wrath of Kahn.... this is what it means to be good. Evil -> You selfish little..... You are in it for your own reasons. As long as everyone else has a purpose to you, keep them around. Remember, you run faster than gnomes, and gnomes are hard to swallow.

So far actions determine Alignment.... not intent.

Now the first time i feel D&D did it right.... Fourth ed... there are only 4 player alignments. Lawful Good -> You follow a code or law, to the T. You trust that those that make the laws have your best intrest in mind. You feel that without law, we would still be living in caves beating eachother with clubs. Good -> YOu do whats best for the community/group. You will protect a slave, fight for freedom, start a bar fight, as long as you are fighting injustice. The laws be Damned. Evil -> You are out for number 1. You might lie and make it seem that you are helping the group, but push come to shove, youll let your friend die so you can carry on. Chaotic Evil -> Society, the world, the universe, the sphere, the multi verse, the planar cosmos, etc, must be destroyed. Every action you take gets you closer to your goal.

Intent behind actions is what matters.

Batman is fighting crime, not because he is abover or better than the law, not for some sense of self fufillment, but because his parents were lost and he will not let that happen to everyone else. He loves Gotham, and will fight to the bitter end to make it a better place to live. He is simply good.

P.S. These are rough examples summing up the description in the books. Really they are much more in depth.
  3. Dont forget to add in average spawn size for average party size, for average difficulty (at least it used to be diff difficulty setting affected what spawns and how much), also youll need to look at mob density.

Just because a power has 17 targets and 10 ft range doesnt mean you can say it will hit all 17 targets and is more or less valuable than something that hits 5 targets in a 40 ft range. you rarely will get to use 17 targets within 10 ft or the full 40 ft range on 5 targets. the fact that its rare to see more than about 8-12 mobs togeather (much less on small or non teams), that on outdoor maps they are very far apart, etc, makes any numbers almost void.

Its like saying an unusable golden statue is better than a usable toilet. One is worth alot if you can sell it, the other youll use every day.

    Make me a !!!

Does it hurt anyone to help some n00b? Even if they say "price is no object" they are usually looking for the end of the road, not the journey. I find it rude that people act like gaming should be just like it was back in the good ol days of AD&D. When you guarded your character sheet with your life. You were the best cause you kept all the secrets to your self.

I have many times asked for a build. Usually its to see what people would do, but it almost always gives me ideas. Makes me think about WHY they may have picked power A over power B. I may not use it, but it helps me as a player find better ways of playing. If you dont like that people ask, then dont read. I dont like knockback or empathetic. I love ele/ blasters. I join those convos, i read the discussions, i debate. You don't have to read my words. You dont have to read my posts. You can skip them all.

The only types of post i got tired of was: MA/AE is ruining the game, and SSK is ruining the game. I got tired of those cause nothing new came up with them after a while..... it was all the same doommongering.

So feel free to debate if people should or shouldnt ask for help, but if you are against helping others, I'd hope you NOT ever ask for help from anyone.

And I'll agree, rude demanding posts are a pain.
  5. the pact is unbroken. When the pact is broken, the LP menu under friend is gone. The bug is with the LP partner just not showing up. They are all still pacted...

I figured this out when i logged into a character, who didnt appear to be pacted anymore, but they still leveled 3 times (you lose all xp when a pact is broken and you havnt logged in)
  6. Ive been wanting multi screen support for a very long time. Like Pulling the map, chat, menu.... well just about everything to a seperate screen. (I use a tri, or quad screen setup most of the time). Tragically, MMO devs have decided just about everywhere that this option isnt worth the time.

I know in MA design you can pull up chat, but thats about it that I know of.

i just want to suggest this as an option due also to lack of population on some servers and as a farmer i would find this an efficient option.

Please read the thread before posting. All these concenrns have been discussed ad nausium.
  8. There is a harware issue with traveling over (something like) 92 mi/hr. So they limit it so as to avoid bugs.

As for to hit, you can hve something like +300% ToHit, but since there is a 5% miss chance no matter what, you can only ever hit ~95% of the time. Anything above that goes to protect you from -ToHit. So If you are taking on 17 dark dealing enemies, all their stacking ToHit Debuffs won't bottom out your accuracy like they would on someone with a simple +95%. That second person will be in negatives and will be depending of that auto 5% chance of hitting (as well as streak breaker) to deal any damage at all.

It is just like the debate between Shield Defense, and Super Reflexes. Both can soft cap at +45% fairly easy, but SD dies to defense cascade much much easier since SR has both resistance to def debuffs and can easily go well over the +45% soft cap.

Simply put the limiters are there to both save you (having a 5% chance of hitting no matter what is the trade off for having a 5% chance of being hit no matter what), and blance the game. But that doesn't make going over those amounts worthless, just not as desirable.

Go fight a horde of CoT spirits and be thankful you have above the "cap" of ToHit.
  9. Incarnate Epics.
    non cape back items.
  10. Two quick questions:
    1) Has anyone seen or read a comic in which regeneration is a self created green glowing effect? I cant think of any, maybe there is one or two, but mostly the holes just close up.
    2) IRL has anyone ever seen red lightning, or is it just usually a bright white light?

    Level 50 Snobs

My teams on Pinn have been "Any one of any level come join us."

I have gotten questions like "What level should I bring?"
    I say "any"
They say "what level are you?"
I say (currently on a newish toon) "17"
They say "well if I stay on this guy, o wont have my powers and stuff"
And I say "You exemp get 5 lvls worth of powers, and still earn XP"
    Then they say "Since When"
I say "since I16 came out, Its the new SSK system"
And they say "Thats really cool, brt"
Then the switch to their lvl 7 toon. So I with my lvl 17 corr, and 4 or 5 others only 1 of which is 17+ are fighting on my mishes..... and to make it so we dont Pwipe, its set to -1....

This has happened countless times already.
  12. Doesn't HB also have -fly, whch lets you use spears. Not saying spears is or isn't worth it, but unless the primary has -fly, and you want to use what you must start with, wouldn't HB be worth taking.

and yes, thats a whole lotta "if"

Siolfir is (one of) the Old English spellings of silver, and was first used (by me at least) as an NPC name in a AD&D (not-really-1st-ed, but not using the 2nd edition books either) Dragonlance campaign (can you guess what the NPC was? The players couldn't...). When I saw it sitting in the entymology I thought it looked like a suitable "fantasy" type of name, so I stole it.

I've used it through various incarnations online, and while I may not play them often on CoH I have a Siolfir on every server of some build or another - the highest level being a level 39 DM/SR Scrapper that hasn't been played in 3 months.

And no, I don't have a twitter account - if you google siolfir you'll see some jerk stole my name! It's not the first time, either - I used to get a lot of junk email from various siolfir @ pick-a-free-email-provider due to webspiders picking it up.

But I've been using it online since the early 1990s, and I'm not going to stop just because of some copycats.
You make me miss Kender Illusionists running around in Planscape's Sigil. Too bad the door to Ravenloft was opened.... such a sad day.

There are too many that think it's fun to see if they can get people to show up for a fake CC though. If I see that happen, I will join with a few others and host a quick CC just to show that not everyone are jerks.
I give 5-10 mill to each person in our SG if their account has been around in the SG for more than 6 months. Thats on each of their toons. Why, oh why would I need to stage anything. (this is on Pinn btw)

But that being said, every time we (me or my wife) runs anything, People say those same things. I remember how nice it was when I started, and entered a costume contest and got a "just for showing up" prize of 100k, and thought it was the best startup ever. I remember the only time I got first place, me and 7 friends started a SG called Toy Soldiers and we all dressed up as tiny green army men. We all got to split first place for the theme.

As many people have put it, keep doin your thing. If you really want to be mean about it, write down the name of naysayers, and dissqualify them, or /ignore them. I would be more than happy to get their prize. (25 mill that is like 2 full non-purple sets for my blaster.)
  15. 1: Ponds/pools/fountians etc.
2: Outdoor furnature, Garage door/launch doors, basicly anything you see from the outside of a building
3: Outdoor styles (sky, park, beach, city skyline, penthouse view, etc)

I love all the Inndoor/Pseudo outdoor SG bases, but it would be nice to have your secret meeting place be "beyond the mists" or "the roof of building X" or even "Beach PARTY." And in my SG base, the pool really does need some pool furnature to match those telepads.
  16. Quick Question, when they are NPC's not controlled by you, can you summon more?

For instance, lets say the Bruiser from thugs becomes an NPC, Can you summon another Bruiser?
  17. I have completed 5 mishes on my newest toon using this. I soften up all the guys in the last spawn, and just before dieing, since I dont have SO's at lvl 20- I use SD, get mish complete, and rez to hosp.

At higher levels, I use it for get out of debt free card.

on my level 50 blaster, I use it + Rise to ghost mishes. All it takes is super speed +stealth to the end, use SD, use RotP with 2 or 3 + stuns, drop a bonfire, and click the glowie/recall friend/assemble the team. Every enemy is KB'd, or Stuned, giving plenty of time to call in reinforcements/get the glowie.

Lastly, remember after using a wakie, you are debt protected. So as a really fun trick, use Aim/BU/Nuke/SD/wakie... get teleported out when they kill you again, and no debt.

Or since my blaster is Ele/Dev/Fire, go Time Bomb/count to six/Trip Mine/Thunderous Blast/blue insp if your actually out of end/SD/RotF (which refills hp & end half way)/Bonfire/VS/Aim/SC/BL. If anything short of an AV lived through that, you are dead meat. Generally the RotP on isn't even needed for anything less than an EB.

In short SD is debt prot, or a great way aroun End crash if you have self rez.
  18. Way back in the days of old, we had no graphics in our MMO's. We called them MUDs, MUSHs, MUCKs, and MOOs amongst other things. In these times, if you wanteted a semi RP game online (generally because you were having trouble finding a good RP group offline), you'd pull out your trusty 56k (or less) modem, and tie up a phoneline for hours. Some people used Play-By-Post, some used Telnet. I was one of these Telnet people. As the MUDs died to the MMO Dreadnought, my trusty 56k Modem had to be replaced by the mythical 10/100 Ethernet Card.

I hoped from one text based realm to another, not being able to keep enough gold to appease the mighty MMO, until one day I found the last MUD I ave ever played. I was an Angelic Cleric named Haruu, she was a Catgirl thief that called me lunch. She thought I was a very large bird you see. We began falling into temptation of the OOC diety, and eventually started talking offline. When I moved in with her, I stoped playing online games.

Then one day she wants to play a new breed of MMO, called Free to Play Korean Business Model. She had friends that wielded their ethernet cards against one names Maple Story. After months of that, we tried others. One day I see a friend frighing in city streets, gore running down the claws of his scrapper. I tell my wife about what I had seen, and we began paying tribute to the MMO called CoH. That was back around I8. One day am looking something up on these forums, and decided to post. When I created the alias that you all know me by, I paid tribute to who I once was, the character that introduced me to the woman that would get me into the game I love.
  19. My Arsonist was named "Crazy Harry".

Yes I names my thugs after Muppets, just because Crazy Harry kept blowing himself up... and no, I'm not /traps.

Generally on teams, I just leave him dead, Sure he does tons of damage, but he dies faster than a lvl 1 clockwork fighting Statesman.

When Soloing, I use all my defense insp on him and hope for the best.

  21. I built my main rig, running an 8200 Mobo, 9800 GT, dual core, 8 gigs of ram, 3 screens. Installed Vista 64 bit prem, updated, went to nvidia, installed newest (beta) drivers, and always check for updates. That was January. Never had a graphics problem. My other two rigs are 32 bit, pre fab with GFX upgrades running dual screens, that I keep on beta drivers. Neither of them have any problems. Heck I ave been known to run 2 diff MMO's and stream video without any graphics problems.

So I have to ask are you sure you installed everything correctly? Are you sure when downloading the drivers, you picked all the correct options? Nvidia's web site is not all that well put togeather, so it would be easy to not download the correct drivers? Did you try running the installer under admin, or xp service pack 2 mode?

(In my experiance, Vista problems tend to fall more under user error, rather than computer error. And believe me, Win 7 is still on the same programming backbone as Vista, so don't think that its gonna be all that different. It might look new, but its mostly the same, with a new name to get away from the stigma that XP and MAC purists put on vista before it was released. I am looking forward to W7, but then again I like vista. For more information about how vista would have been treated if people had actually tried it before putting it down look up "The Mojave Experiment" or check out http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mojave-experiment/)

If you did say lvl 15 so you could have stam (which is why people tend to want lvl 20) your dealing with mobs that are much tougher.

lvl 1 is very slow & steady. I tested it on test. It really wasnt worth it. Sprint is no sub for SS, SJ, Fly, or TP.

Super-Sidekicking with the new system of difficulty and exemplaring is awesome. There are no other words than that.
But... there are some players that really hate team invites, and now people will be spammed with team invites, even though they aren't the same level, because people will be more willing to invite higher levels, they would be assuming that the higher levels would be more willing to group with lower levels. This is not correct, many players have played so many lower level characters, that they have gotten tired of the lower level content, to such an extent that they would almost never chose to help with lower level characters anyways. (The possible spam is what there might be naysayers about.)

Anyways, the possible upside is... people would be less tired of the lower level missions because they can find more people to do their higher level missions with. (Also badge missions wouldn't be too bad of an issue, because we can still earn xp's exemplared, so it wouldn't be quite so tedious to get the fortune teller mission done, etc.)

So, personal opinion A+ issue guys, you have come through for me so many times, but I think this issue will have me day dreaming and drolling the whole time I wait for it.
I think it will meet with at least 80% Approval, that's amazing in this game.
If someone doesn't want to be spam invited, they should do what I do.... go to friends, click hide, click the from invites button, then accept. No more invites unless they contact you (if you get spamed that way, hide from searches, etc)... Its a system that works wonderfully.

Make sure you don't have 64 bit. If it has that 3 in detected, I'd say look for malware. Have you tried running the setup under xp compatability mode with admin access. Go to the Nvidia website and try various downloads.

Other than that, I don't know. Never had a single problem with any of my three rigs and vista/nvidia (2 of the rigs were pre fab HP's that I've modded, the third is all pieced togeather)
