Ninja Run

Who is specifically responsible for the Ninja Run travel power? I wish to make mad, passionate love to them. Or at the very least, send them a fruit basket.

@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too

According to BAB, it wasn't him. So um... "Not BAB". That's all I got.

Ninja Run is the best #$% thing in the world! I would have paid the $10 just for that! Whoever thought this power up deserves a raise!

my only complaint is that it does not work with combat jumping! Please make it work with combat jumping ... take away one of the jumping mods, I just want the sprint ability without having to click back and forth and without having to use the old sprint.

Your reply, i think it pleases him.

And, yes, i think Ninja Run is one of the best booster pack powers. Actually i'd say it's the best so far.

The ninja travel toggle is reminiscent of what was my favourite travel in CO so it's good for me.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

quick question here:

is ninja run an actual new travel power, or just a new sprint?

either way it looks cool as all hell

You can have [Prestige] Sprint on with Ninja Run, but you can't have Super Speed, Super Jump, or Combat Jumping on at the same time.

Interestingly enough, as far as I can tell, Ninja Run adds that same "control" that Super Jump does when you fly. You don't drift if you have Ninja Run and Fly on.

@Gilia1
I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.

kind of column a and b really. it is a unslottable power, like self destruct, or the vet weapons, it is not part of any pool, and is active at level 4. it ads the funky animation, a bit more speed than sprint, and a good bit of vertical height on jumps. for instance, i was able to jump from the water to street level easily in indep port, so i suspect super speeders will appreciate the added vertical, particularly in grandeville, though they will have to switch them because ninja detoggles actual travel powers.

See this thread for better numbers and comparisons than "a bit".

First off : Kudos to the Ninja run creator / animator ! I love it .
My complaint is also that it doesn't allow COmbat Jumping toggled at same time , YET , it allows Sprint ( of any type ) ? Umm , if it is a RUn speed primarily , then it should preclude other run powers not a NON travel jump power . So , while it grants a larger vertical bonus than Combat Jumping, I have CJ for the def bonus > which I cannot use while I have Ninja run on . Yes , It makes sense that "Travel powers" cannot be used in conjuntion , and I am sure having both on would mean someone would need to pick a dominating animation between CJ and Ninja run ( which have I already said looks WICKED ) . But any martial arts styled character with CJ must now choose between Looking cool and running slightly faster than sprint or using a VERY martial arts like power +Def ,which costs almost NO End compared to Ninja run . Why make players choose ? It's my Endurance to burn and CJ is NOT a travel power. Please allow CJ with Ninja run . Even if it only allows the +def and not more vertical base stacking ....

Why do you need +Def while traveling?

Ninja Running is a travel power. A mix of Super Speed and Super Jump. It's not a combat power like Combat Jumping.

As for why it's mutually exclusive with CJ... have you ever tried to use Super Jump alongside CJ?

So, how's the travel speed on Ninja run, then?

Is it really super speed + super jump, or a scaled down, slower version of each without air control when jumping?

If it is possible to have an effective travel power at level 4, it would probably be worth $10, at least to me.

From what I've seen of it, it looks pretty nifty...with one exception.

The "running crouched over with your arm in front of your face" part of it reminds me less of a ninja and more of daffy duck pretending to be a vampire.

Just a thought.

I'm still probably going to buy it.

On its own, it's slower than any of the existing travel powers. However, Ninja Run + unslotted Hurdle is faster than unslotted Super Jump while jumping, and Ninja Run + unslotted Sprint + unslotted Swift is faster than Fly while running. Ninja Run lets you jump higher than Combat Jumping on its own, and it seems to have similar air control to Super Jump.

It's slower than SS, and you don't jump as high as SJ.

However, consider you get both benefits at once. If you take SS, you don't get vertical. If you take SJ, you can't run. Also consider you get it for free at level 4. It has no prereqs. It's also faster than fly if done right. I have it up over 60 MPH on my Widow. Someone else got the run speed up to 74 MPH.

Essentially, it's not as good as SS or SJ. But it's better than not having a travel power. It's fast ENOUGH that it's a viable alternative in some situations. I dropped SJ on my Widow because I could. I made a new DB/WP that will probably just rely on NR because it's very good by itself.

Plus:

And yes, I plan to keep pimping those pics until they stop being cool. Which doesn't seem like it'll happen anytime soon. <>

That running pose is a classic anime/japanimation running pose. Very suitable for ninja and swordsmen.

I love the utility of the power, but I hate the way it looks. I do however, think the flips at the top of your jumps are awesome. I just bought the pack yesterday and the first thing I did was spend about 5 minutes doing backflips.

Posted

Yeah, I think the run animation could be reworked. I also love the backflip...spent a few minutes flipping out in the streets myself.

I nabbed this pack as soon as I saw it. My no-travel-power toons are no-travel-power no more.

Same here, I like the flips, am mostly OK with the jump animation and hate the run animation (especially when idle, it looks like your toon has scoliosis). Ninjas were much, much cooler before anime became popular.

one thing i havent seen comented on yet in here is, that with NR you can get around the annoying probs you have with TP in smaller areas./

one of my toons has been using TP forever and i dont have the power slots to get a seond travel power and sprint just dousnt cut it when you are trying to keep up with a fast paced group. when the place is to hectic for TP

NR has given me a versitle means of getting around in these place so i can keep up with the group without trying to navigate tunnels and such with TP, as its fast enough to keep up with all the other travel powers there since most peeps gotta go slower in the complex areas them selves

I've already found it useful for my fliers in tight areas like caves. Bumping my head and trying to navigate while grounding myself with flight is pretty irritating. Now I can just use NR to stick to the floor and still be able to move fast.

I know that is your opinion, but I have to, respectfully, disagree. I have Scoliosis, and I don't look like that when I stand around idle.

However, when I've been participating in live action roleplaying, my combat stance was very much like the Ninja Run idle stance. Gave me a smaller strike zone I could hide behind my shield (I stand 6'3" and my shield was about 2'6" tall) and my attack vectors were fairly unpredictable.
