Chat box on alternate screens

Is there any way to display chat on alternate screens, such as the tailor, trainer or enhancement screens? I get a little weary of being halfway through a costume design, and hearing the chime for a tell, and having to back out to find out what its about: compliment, team invite, friend saying "hi", etc. The same with the other screens I mentioned.

Perhaps I should also ask if there is any way to negate the background on those screens. Seeing the game behind the overlay might help.

Try typing /afk before entering one of those screens. I know moving or sending something to a chat channel will clear AFK status. I don't think the respec/enhancement/training/tailor screens will (except a freespec, since typing the command clear status.)

IF I'm correct, anyone sending you a tell while on those screens will get an auto reply reading [Auto-Reply] User is AFK. Or if you enter a message with the /afk command, it will hover that message over your head, and send it as the Auto-Reply.

If I'm wrong, the AFK status will clear as soon as you enter the other screen. In that case, all you can do is back out to reply, or ignore it until you're done.

Assuming you are right about everything else.. you could probably work around the freespec issue by using this command string instead:
/respec$$afk

Also, as another suggestion for the OP.. if you know you are going to be in one of those screens for a very long time, it might benefit you to use /hide until you are done.

I just tried, and speaking to a trainer clears /afk status. Most likely, the others do too.

Boo.

EDIT: Sounds like MB's /hide suggestion is your best bet.

I seem to remember doing it before.

I thought it was just something like hitting enter to get to the chat window and then it stayed up while you were in the other screen.

I remember doing this before while in the SG Base editor.

I cannot go on an verify but will try later tonight and get back with results.

Ive been wanting multi screen support for a very long time. Like Pulling the map, chat, menu.... well just about everything to a seperate screen. (I use a tri, or quad screen setup most of the time). Tragically, MMO devs have decided just about everywhere that this option isnt worth the time.

I know in MA design you can pull up chat, but thats about it that I know of.

That does work while in the SG base editor, but that is still a 3D environment with most of the 2D user interface simply hidden, and replaced by the editing tools. Pressing the appropriate binds to open certain windows will still open them.

However, the enhancement, Tailor, LevelUp, etc screens are Fullscreen overlays. The UI does not override them.

Even tough it's usually defaulted as maximized, Mission architect is also just another window in your User Interface, and you can open other windows on top of it.

Sorry but as others have already mentioned, you can't have a chat window displayed while in other windows such as Tailors.

I /hide and hide from all when I'm about to enter into a screen I don't want to have to back out of until I'm done.

So I hide from all when I'm respec'n, at the tailors, at the market, crafting, or editing my base. Just remember to /hide and deselect everything when yer ready to be social again.

You can also set up keybinds or macros to hide from all and unhide from all to make it easier. I don't have those binds but I'm sure someone out there would be happy to give them to you.

thanks for the feedback, all.

I'll use the /hide features for now, I guess. It should work for anyone out of sight. Is there though, another way to set up just an autoreply? maybe not /afk, but something that lets the guy standing next to you know you are not a snob who ignores him when he compliments your costume?

If you are standing next to a Trainer or in the Tailor.. I think they usually assume you can't see them, and wont take it personal. lol

I can't think of a single time I've gotten a tell from someone while I was at the tailor, when they were also at the tailor. They're always from someone on my global friends list or some random invite from search.

..both of which would be avoided while in /hide, as mentioned above.

On a side note.. I've had costume compliments while at either of those places on more than one occasion as well. Maybe you just don't catch anybody's eye?

Yeah, no, that's not the case, trust me.
