The new forum sucks
This just gets worse and worse. The forums were just about the only thing keeping me subbed. And now they've made pretty much everything a PITA, for me at least.
Not only are they slower than a sloth now, they succeeded in making them ugly, clunky, removed features (name changing and easy quoting), and space-wasting.
The new forums are not bad. The change in handling of the login is not a plus as far as I can see.
Hmm... Sig Pics.

OOoo, I like the way the editor works. Pretty snazzy.
The thing is people, all the complainers here about the new forums need to stuff it and do some research. You got a problem with a specific part of the new forums? GOOGLE is your friend. Look for plug-ins and addons for the VB software thats now powering this site. Theres hundreds if not thousands of diffrent plug-ins and capabilities of this software for the convience of the users and the administration. So stop whining about it and make some suggestions on plug-ins and add-ons that you think will help make these forums as they should be.

How do you get your avatar back? Mine didn't transfer & for some reason when i try to "save changes" it doesn't load my avatar either. Can someone give me some guidance, please.
Deeds not Words....
Do we seriously need a massive number of QQ threads every bloody time something related to this game changes?!
What is it with people lately? Adapt. Period. |
Pointless complaining has been going on since at least the beginning of time, and probably a lot longer.

Also on Steam
I'm not really seeing how the new editor is WYSIWYG. Am I the only one? Just wanna make sure I'm not missing out on a shiney! :P
|
I think it's more a case of not really being WYSIWYG but having the quick HTML type editing tools without allowing full HTML code in the posts.
Someone at vBulletin apparently thought that having the Bold, Italicize, Font, Links, Quotes, and other formatting buttons at the top is what it means to be WYSIWYG.
It's probably as close as we'll get since I doubt they will enable HTML code in posts.
Talk about a nightmare. Sheesh.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I disabled the Show Images only. It does indeed disable the images in the sigs, but also images posted in the thread, such as when Positron posted the preview of Issue 16's color customization. It doesn't disable smilies.

As for the new forum? Meh, they're alright. I preferred the old ones but the new one is fine, if very ugly.
Kid Lazarus, 50 empath Defender
Freek, 50 mind/psi Dominator
Black Khopesh, 43 db/wp Scrapper
Circuit-Boy, 40 elec Brute
Graf von Eisenfaust, 38 db/wp Brute
Blue Banshee, 35 sonic Blaster
Blood Countess, 33 mind/storm Controller
Dr. Radon, 32 rad Corruptor
Phantom Pirate, 32 db/wp Stalker
again, I reiterate seeing how everybody blew past my post.
Got a problem with the forums? A part that doesn't work the way it used to?

Make a suggestion. Problem solved.

I find it a PITA that every time I hit the Back button, it takes me to the top of the last page. Makes it annoying to read multiple threads when you are having to scroll back down and find your place.
The old forums were much easier to navigate as it took you back to where you were on the last page.
Quick question for you GibberingLunatic. Is there a way to see what version of vBulletin these forums are on? I've been looking everywhere but I'm likely overlooking it.
TIA

I don't use the Back button. Instead, I use the Forum Jump navigation tool in the lower right corner to take me back to the Index to the forums I'm currently reading, or to Jump to the Index to a completely different forum.

I know it was complained about on the I13 Beta forums. Apparently several of the complaints fell on deaf ears.
From what I remember, it's something in how vBulletin is passing tags or something through the browser. But, since it's been so long and it wasn't an issue that overly concerned me, I don't recall the details.
Maybe someone with a better memory will come along to clear it up.

I got annoyed when I went to edit my sig and it said I couldn't use more than 5 lines in my sig -- ah well, I was able to get around it.
Maybe I'll replace with a sigpic, as that sounds cool.
It'll take some getting used to, but I'm ok with it.

So it's probably no different for you. I also used to use the back button to go back to where I was.... but now, instead of leaving the previous page exactly where I left off (allowing me to click on the very next thread where I left off) it reloads the page and puts me at the top, which is inconvenient and makes it harder to find my place.

D'oh, didn't think of viewing the source code.
And I knew someone would be along that could remember or explain what caused the Back button behavior much better than what I could remember from the I13 Beta discussion.
Thanks muchly.

I had a website a while back, http://www.youarefreakingdumb.com (no kidding) and it ran the VB software for its entire lifetime, so I have alot of experience with it.
I am not liking it yet. is there a way to expand the different main topics so we dont have to click the +
I hate the new forums with a passion. The thing is hard to read. It looks horrible too.
Forums should not look like this, they should be nive and easy to read.
HATE THEM!!!
As a matter of fact, expect me to post less, simply because it now takes too much effort to read things here.
There's no going back, but the least they can do is change themes...or give us the option to choose a different theme.

If you go into the User CP and edit options, all the way at the bottom you can choose Hero or Villain skins. Hero is the default one, but switch it to villains and it's easier to read (white on red)
Still hate the new forums though :P
Am I the only one concerned about the removal of the "Show all posts" option? As it is now, it's a pain to click through 4 pages of posts when you could just line them up before.
