Pros:

  • I like the new design... after I modded it with Stylish (see guides thread for more details ).
  • I love being able to have an image in my sig, even though in the past I thought it was a bad idea.
  • I love the fact that search seems to work.
  • I adore the ability to search players from the Members List
  • And I think being able to make sub communities is a great idea.
Cons:
  • I think the new forums are far too big... I don't mean the fact that there are too many people here but the fact that they are far too spread out making it hard to work out where to look. Too many categories in General discussion IMO.
  • I loath the colour schemes, though I plan on changing mine to match what I like. I'd have liked a theme that matched the EU boards rather than the US boards.
  • I dislike the fact that after customising the colours the web heads didn't bother updating icons/smilies/etc to fit (see fringe round smilies).
  • I hate the fact that the old boards weren't archived so that missing posts (404 errors) could be recovered and reposted.
Other:
  • I wasn't looking forward to becoming a small subset of the US forums. But on the whole I think the amalgamation is good. Already got into two threads that would never have happened on the EU boards. Which is great.
  • I'm UK based and until now I always used Color on the EU forums, mainly as thats how I spell it when doing web stuff (html doesn't use colour). Now I wouldn't get noticed using color I use colour...
On the whole though I think the change is good.

Oh and why is this in tech support.. shouldn't it be somewhere in general discussion?

The single most dominant feature of these forums that I like so very much is the thread subscription system. We did have a similar thing with the old boards, but it wasn't so easy to use as it is now.

Every time you post in a thread, you automatically subscribe. When you next visit, you just go to User CP, and all your subscribed threads with new posts are listed there. You don't even have to go to the front page of the forums.

And I guess I'm one of the few people who loves the new design. I like the colors. Looks very modern and Web 2.0-ish.

Thread Subscription is nice, yes, but the part I like even more is the Forum Subscription. Just add the Forums that you are interested in and visit frequently, and there is no need to scroll through the main list. Bookmarking the English section instead of the main forums was the first thing I did, but the Forum Subscription is a HUGE WIN! You can pick forums from separate sections that way, read the one you want.. mark that forum as read. Click your CP, and move onto the next. lol

Loading these forums is cumbersome, am I the only one getting graphic issues whilst on the villian version (the hero version was far worse).

What happens is that I could scroll down to virtue, ect, smoothly prior, now something is L...a...g...ing...my scrolling and it's entirely choppy. Even my guild site is smoother then this now o.0

this a tweeking issue on my end? Happens even after I've gone away for a while and the entire thread's loaded.

Just looking for some advice o.@ Also I'm see aot of guides and formatted things like broken and displaying code. Is that fixable or should I just deal with it since it's past three days? (my patch notes looked awful the other day)

Regards,
-C.A.

I'm pretty sure the problem is on your side. The new forums are very smooth for me. No issues whatsoever.

After picking the Forums I wanted, I changed my bookmark to the CP instead. I can even get to my social group very easily from that point. lol

So you mean I didn't need to write this up and post it in the Guides section?

Dang.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Ok, so after a few days using it, I'm still fairly indifferent to the new forums...except:
-Loads slow. Even with pictures off. It plain loads slow.
-Viewing on my phone (PPC6800 - Win Mobile 6), is REALLY slow. 900k per page...and that's just the main directories. Veiwng area is laid out well for mobile, but still comes out a bit oddly lined up...and completetly unable to just QR (have to quote someone, then delete original text, then type in my messeges...too many steps for a mobile, even with a qwerty pad).

Good? Ok, I guess I should:
-Like sig picture.
-Like friends list.
-Likes the awesome picture of Sister Psyche.
-Likes the subscribe to stuff thingies.
-Likes the Advanced Posting window (even if it's not true wysiwig).
-A few other, non-important little things.

The Dev's Digest is looking very buggy.

Also, User CP is a vague title for user preferences/settings. I guessed at its purpose and got lucky.

I'm disappointed that there is still no option to upload an icon from my computer rather than having to provide a link an URL. I'm not even sure I can remember how I did it in the first place

After looking at the Avatar options again I see that this is different from the old forum method of adding an avatar, and I can't figure out how to use the code options in ImageShack. Seriously, would a browse function be so bad?

It is buggy - it's some software they have running and it needs to get updated. (It used to be software run by SabreCat some centuries ago.) I'm sure it's on somebody's very long ToDo list.

I'm getting killed by two things.

1. Posts only show up as new if they have been posted within the last few hours. I'm missing a LOT of new posts because of this. Maybe subcribing to the forums will help....

2. Not allowing ~'s in URLs is killing me. I can't upload an avatar or signature because of that. Trying to upload a signature picture directly seems to do nothing at all. No error, no picture.

I really like these new slate'ish colors and the format looks great, but I'm starting to turn into a hater.

Chalk another one up against Firefox.
I'm using IE8, actually. Posts ARE showing up as new, it's just not doing it right. It's like the page thinks I last visited the thread about 4 hours ago when it's actually been more like 24 hours ago. PC's clock is correct and on the correct date. I checked my Options in the User CP and, at the bottom of the list, it gives the correct time of day for me.

Oh well, I'll keep fiddling.

just use the direct link from ImageShack to upload your avatar.

the kicker about the browse option...they have it available to signatures.

It's available, but doesn't work...least not that I could get it to.

The problem is that the ImageShack address for my avatar (if I've done this right-- I put the avatar into a gallery of its own) doesn't contain www. and the format of the avatar feature here insists upon www.

The image is located here: http://img442.imageshack.us/i/avatarossumpossumdw4.jpg/ and pasting this address into the field provided doesn't work. Once I paste it and press enter, the address vanishes and the template for the start of the address returns.

Any further advice would be appreciated!

What auto logging out? I logged in when the forums came back, checked the box to keep me logged in and haven't had to log in again since...

Use the URL replacement (%7e) for tilde (~) instead.

Do not assume that because you are not getting auto-logged out, that others are not. I was having this problem on my Vista machine at home, clearing the cache/cookies (and just for the heck of it Window Washing) then rebooting solved it, the Mac at work still has this problem.

Voted "terrrible" due to OP, but there's a lot of other win in this thread. Sorry for jumping the gun

I'm starting to like it, somewhat. Least I know how to use the darn thing now. It acts no different then the other forums for me. Most of the time it works fine, once in a great while pages wont load. But that just seems to be the net in general. Nothing man makes is perfect, it's to be expected.
