How did you hear about CoH?
I was playing Star Wars Galaxies at the time, and due to the Jedi *****job SOE did on the fans people left the game, and some of these said their goodbyes on the forums there mentioning this new Superhero game theyve found. I thought it sounded interesting and tried it out for a bit. Then I went back to SWG for jump to lightspeed. And then SOE did it again.. they did another *****job with the NGE and utterly appalled on how a gaming company thought that this was a acceptable behaviour I left SWG and never looked back.
I suddenly remembered how fun COH had really been and with the rumours that there would soon be EU servers I went back to city of---

My brother bought it, I got allowed to make a character.
Later on, I had enough money to get it myself, after reading and re-reading the article in Game Magazine, I think it was. Said F off to the parents (I was young, once ) and, well...here I am. Madder than ever, and still addicted
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I discovered CoH through PvPonline.com which is has always been my homepage
I'd seen it in the shops and was tempted to buy but at the time couldnt afford to pay for another MMO. After my brothers mate handed him a trial i tried it out and loved it so much i left MXO and started to play. I've been flicking between the two for the past 2 years or so but after MXO's main developer left i guess im sticking with COH... Well excited for the MA!
I joined after getting in on the CoV open beta. I bought CoV only then after 6 months I bought CoH. I have been AWOL since August 2007 but I snuck back 2 weeks ago
Either I saw an advert/article in PC Gamer prior to release or simply bought it off the shelf in my local Game - I forget which. Might have been the latter as I would've looked at the new releases and thought "cool game" when I looked at the box.
I do remember the excitment of opening the box and reading bits of the comic while the game installed.
At the time I was writing for a gaming site and thus allways hot for upcoming games... noted CoH which seemed interesting and at some point I signed up for the EU beta. Got in but then kinda didn't have the go to really join. I was getting tired of all the same-same games coming out... so at a point when I was really bored I decided to download the client and give it a try and then *dang* I was hooked.
I'd just stopped playing (trial account after trial account) Horizons, as asking my parents for money for such a thing was, of course, evil. I then went to MMORPG.com, and browsed the list for games with trials.
After reading the name, I was intrigued. While downloading the client (overnight), I scoured the official site for all the info I could. At that age, I was intrigued.
I then started my trial on my terrible bottom-end laptop, and was amazed at how fun it was. I instantly started downloading the client on the better computer, and you should have seen my face when I saw the difference in graphics!
I replayed trial accounts again and again, making new email addresses just so I could play for two more weeks. (Asking my parents for money was still terribly rude.)
I then asked for it for christmas, and I'm still here.
I was looking for an RPG and found this instead. Probably for the best, I was doing too much roleplay anyway

I think I just randomly stumbled on it whilst searching for superhero games.

I got a copy of PC Gamer back in '06 with a free trial of CoV. It looked very intresting and I loved superheroes, so I took up the trial - I enjoyed it, and soon afterwards, I bought the game.
Friend of mine recommended it as a good entry level MMO, joined October '05 (can't believe it was that long ago...)
The friend who convinced me to join has long gone but I've managed to find some really great people to team with and SGs to join on both servers.

Many moons ago I got bored with the other games which required you to travel at a snails pace for three weeks to get to a cave where you found a few bits of gold and a weapon and some armour that you couldn't use then forced you to walk back to town to try and find some mug to buy it.
Came across this one on on mmorpg.com and haven't even looked seriously at another online game since.
Buddy disc from a work colleague that bought the Deluxe edition. Having not previously been a big fan of RPGs in general, I'd certainly never tried an MMO, because as a genre it didn't really appeal. I still remember running around the tutorial with my character "Powerbolt Man" (*ahem*) thinking "Hmm.. not sure if I like this", but something must have clicked; I got my 33 Month Vet badge on Saturday

I didn't.
Just saw it in the store and looking at the other games it was the only one that seemed non mainstream.
I saw a review for City of Villains in 'Computeractive' but it wasn't until I saw the DVD edition of CoH in a game shop that I took the plunge.

Funny thing is, I happened upon City of Heroes while not really looking to start another MMO (I still play Final Fantasy XI).
As I recall, I found a website which had an intruiging article on MMO's. I clicked it thinking I'd find FFXI given a small mention somewhere. It sure did, but what interested me more was the mention of a superhero MMO which I'd previously not heard about.
Following the supplied links I ended up on a website where I could set up a trial account and start playing. Back then the trial accounts were far from limited and I hit level 30+ well before the 14 days were over. Not wanting to lose my character, having had such a great experience all around, I upgraded to a full account and I've been here ever since.
I now have 2 accounts and recently received my 21 month vet reward on the first!
Characters:
The Heroic Mary Grace (50)
The Mystical Thunderspark (50)
The Candy-loving Little Jenny (50)
I read a review of the game in the Sunday Times just after launch. I got the ok from my sister to play the game on her computer (my laptop at the time was pretty minimally specced for the game), ordered it, ordered another account and a new computer a few weeks later so we could both play and then dragged my brother in too.

Hehe buddy code for the win!
Had seen the game in the shops and was tempted but mate got it and I used his buddy code. He didn't last long but I somehow bumped into a great lot of players/friends and the rest they say is history.

I was wandering around HMV and picked up a copy of CoV and was tempted primarly by the costume customisation. Buuut put it back down again because at the time I refused to get a game that I had to keep paying for.
However every time I went in I picked it up and put it down until I decided I may aswell seeing as I stop playing most games after a month anyway. (Guild wars lasted about 2 weeks)
I was wrong!
36 months (not continusly) and 2 accounts later i'm still well and truely hooked! Definatly spent more time on this than any other game i've ever played. Maybe more hours than i've ever spent on any game ever...
I also have to thank this game for keeping me in touch with one of my oldest and best friends, who at the time I didn't know played. I was on as a concept character I was playing around with, one of my first heroes seeing as I was spending all my time on villains and had only just bought heroes to add to it.
I saw a toon in Atlas named after his favourite football team. (Made me think of him as hes a die hard you see.) So I called him up and said "I've got an odd question... Do you play City of Heroes?"
"I do actually" he said
"Is your toon called (football team name) man?"
"Uhh yea..."
"Ha! See that loon in the suit of armor jumping up and down in front of you for the last 20 mins?"
So yea, only real person I've managed to stay in touch with from my school days cos I don't leave the game long enough to call or msn or anything like that...
Best... Buy... Ever!
